True to her word, Ssussun set everything into motion. First there was a brief stop to visit the Ring Mistress. Her unacknowledged mother, in order to inform her that Ssussun had decided to dabble in married life for a time. Kyil was now her personal claimed servant, the baby Mikkyila that was just born was her daughter, and thus a part of the circus House, and Mikaril was going to be her cute little thiefy husband!
Afterwords, the news spread so quickly, that somehow it got ahead of her as she moved around the circus. It felt good, being the center of attention that did not require her to pander to the others. Instead it seemed like she was being pandered to! Since she agreed completely with Mikaril on his thoughts concerning the basis of their wedding, Ssussun had to regretfully accept that they could not have specially tailored outfits. Oh well..this was only a 'pretend' marriage for his benefit... No...no it wasn't. As Ssussun dug through the trunks of costumes she sat back and looked at a feathered hair piece. This was as real as anything else she could think of. Would she be able to let Mikaril leave later she wondered? Or would she insist he stay as her husband. Would it come to that? She could always try and find other reasons for them to stay. She supposed if she got desperate enough she could get Kyil sick.
No. She didn't think she'd be able to do that. The risk of losing Mikaril entirely was too great. She'd just have to manage she supposed. With a small huff, Ssussun tucked a pair of performers garb under her arm. It had been years since these had been worn. So she was certain no one would recognize them and make them seem less dressy. And they weren't so flamboyant. With a few accessories she was sure the dress and suit combo would look lovely... She thought it was part of a magicians act or something, due to the elegance tailored into the females costume and the sternness of the males. Huh...must have been a failure as a outfit though. Hardly any flesh showed!
Maybe they just should wear their common cloths with a few accessories..like the cloaks? She'd ask Ril when she got back to him. With the costumes bundled up under her arm, she made two more stops on her plotting trip. The second to last stop was to the kitchen wagon. The celebration dinner had to be very specific. The wedding cake had to be red and green..and the dinner meal itself had to be completely meatless. Well..fish would be fine. But no rothe meat or anything like that. She did not want to make her husband uneasy, as Kyil had informed her that Mikaril was a vegetarian. Such a odd trait in a drow! Finally though, she stopped at the resident priestess to set up for the ceremony. With the plans all in motion, Ssussun returned to the wagon, humming happily as she opened the door. "Oooh Ril love!"

Mikaril found himself glad that at least one drow seemed to be having herself a grand old time with this entire wedding. As far as he was concerned, Ssussun had taken all the fun parts for herself. Not that he begrudged her the planning; he just wished he could have a better place in the atmosphere than the male that seemed to be as much the center of attention as Ssu. The circus folk were staring at him more than ever now, and more than one male had approached him with the intent of picking a fight with him for having been the one to actually catch the attention of the comely fire dancer. Thus far he had been able to avoid any conflicts by calmly reminding the offender that he had no loyalties to anyone here and would be happy to inform Ssu who was responsible for any bruises or cuts on his person that she might find. But he knew that it could only hold out for so long; there were many places where one might hide the body of an offensing male, even in a place as crowded as a circus caravan.
He and Kyil had awoken at almost the same time, and once he saw his friend's eyes open, he had gotten up out of Ssu's bed and walked over to tell him of the news. He had reacted almost exactly in the way he had anticipated. First he had touched Mikaril and tried to siphon off the spell that he was sure was enslaving his friend. When none came, he had looked at Mikaril with confusion, and he had explained the arrangement to him in as calm a manner as he could, well aware that Kyil should not be upset if he was to heal at all properly. Though thankfully not upset enough it seemed to hinder his healing, Kyil had still been quick to offer a barrage of other options. They could stay in another place in Undrek'Thoz, one where nobody would find them, and he would have Mikkyila with him. Mikaril dismissed the idea; there was no way in the Nine Hells they were remaining anywhere near that accursed city with little more than a cave for protection. He had done his best to reassure Kyil that Ssu had not threatened him or put him up to any of this, and he decided that this was the best way to keep them all safe. He had even used Ssu's own words; a pretend marriage. Kyil had still looked doubtful, but at least then he had ceased to be quite so upset, and even got enough into the spirit of things to let Ssu know of his little 'problem' with red meats.
Through it all, Mikaril remained unsure still. A pretend marriage was all well and good, but he knew deep down that Ssu was really wishing that the whole thing was real and not for any safety benefit. Perhaps she was hoping that in time, he would likewise wish it were real, and then steps could be taken to ensure it. He tried to imagine himself not afraid of a female's touch, of being happy with someone whom he could actually succeed in pleasing, and he always ended up tentatively wishing that it could be so. He had always wanted approval and the feeling of knowing that he had made someone he cared about truly happy; everyone in his house had known it, especially Hael, and he had thought more than once that she had installed such fear in him on purpose to bar him from that particular fulfillment of his life. He wanted to beat it, to conquer his fear and take that step forward; goodness knows Ssu was willing for it to happen. But what if it stayed with him forever, and he ended up trapped indefinitely in a marriage where he could not do his part? He would still have Kyil of course, but in that one part of his life, he would forever be unhappy.
Right at that moment he was with Kyil, making him some hot tea. He wanted him to be as well as possible; he couldn't bear it if his friend would be unable to attend the ceremony. He needed his presence there, even if it meant sensing his silent disapproval. In time he would surely see that nothing harmful could come from having such protection, especially when it came to returning to his home city and the dangers within. Besides, he could always still back out once they left Undrek'Thoz, if he so desired. He was just taking the tea to Kyil and handing it to him when he heard the door open and heard Ssu's playful voice. Giving Kyil a rather sheepish look, he turned his head a little and called back. "Right here!"

Ssussun bustled into the wagon with the outfits folded in her arms. Her bright and cheerful expression dampened a bit as, when she looked to Mikaril and saw Kyil's sad expression, she was reminded that not everyone present was as excited as she was. She assumed that Mikaril was feeling moderately scared. Her little thief always seemed scared. And Kyil. Ever since this arrangement he seemed to have this aura of...she wasn't quiet certain what it was. It was not the typical malice or hatred. It wasn't the well hidden anger either. It almost drove her to distraction in truth. She shook her head a little to shake off the uneasy tingle, and focused on smiling at Mikaril.
"I found us some nice outfits for the wedding!" She carefully laid the cloths out over a trunk and gently flicked the feathers decorating the neck of the females outfit. "And I have our wedding rings all set. The Priestess will be waiting for us in a few hours. I've only asked for a small group to be present, to act as witnesses. The sooner we get this over with the less time there is for something to..well..stop it." Something meaning her mother, in case she had a sudden change of mind. Ssussun was leaving nothing to chance. She glanced over to where Kyil was laying, then peered back up at Mikaril. "I...apologize for not involving you more in this. It's traditional that the female set's things up anyways. Anyways..." She exhaled deeply, meaning to calm her racing heart. "The marriage ceremony will be later, of course. Elkaun will be here to help Kyil attend, and Sszor will watch Mikkyila while we are out. Do...you have any questions?"

Setting down Kyil's tea in front of him and giving his shoulder a reassuring pat, Mikaril rose up to meet Ssu, a still genuine but less enthusiastic smile on his own face. "So I see. They look festive." He eyed the female's feathery adornment, and found himself almost jealous. He was no dandy by any means, but to him feathers spoke of a life of luxury and pampering, something he knew that as a male was forever out of his reach. Well, usually; he made a mental note to himself to get the best feather beds and pillows gold could by to furnish the secret bedroom he had set up for himself and Kyil.
He listened intently as Ssu explained what she knew about the ceremony. He could picture it in his mind, hoping that everything would go well and no jealous male would see fit to disrupt the ceremony. He shook his head at her apology. "Please don't worry about not including me; to be honest, I have never witnessed or helped plan a wedding ceremony, so I would be completely lost in how to prepare for it. And to be honest, I have been welcoming the chance to be with Kyil and ensure that he is well. I couldn't possibly be able to keep my head if he was not there with me." He turned his head to smile at Kyil, trying to let him know without words that this was really okay and that it would end up being for the best for all of them.
When Ssu had finished, he moved to sit down beside Kyil, ready to take his empty cup once he had finished his tea. "It all sounds pretty straightforward, but I hope you don't mind if I follow your lead, being so unused to these sort of ceremonies....well, now that I think on it, I have attended one, but I remember very little of it and what I do remember I've tried with all my might to forget. So I think I will just do as you do unless directed; do you think that will be alright to get me through the ceremony?" He cast a long glance at the outfit spread out on the bed, the one that he would be wearing, and imagined himself in it with a tiny thrill of excitement bursting from the former feeling of fear like a tiny rosebud from a thorny green rosebush.

Ssussun watched as Kyil sipped at his tea, then moved her gaze back to Mikaril. It was a relief when he seemed so...calm about all of this. "I am glad you like the outfits. I figured we had enough time to spiff them up a bit more before the wedding. I want to add a belt or something to my outfit...and I think I have some green feathers in my jewelry box. How do you feel about clipping them in your hair?"
Ssussun gently ran her fingers over her outfit once, then shifted forwards to sit a little closer to the boys. "I'll fill you in on the ceremony then. It's pretty simple. What will happen is we will walk together from the entrance of the tent to where the priestess will be standing. She will offer a prayer to Lloth to bless our union. Then I will declare to those gathered, and to the priestess, that I am laying claim to you. That you will be my selected husband, until such time I see fit to release you, in whatever means I wish. I'll put the ring on you then, and then the match will be on me. There will be a ribbon tied between them of course. I'll take your hand, and then we will exit the tent. I picked the most simple of ceremonies. It's really more of a possession one but... I thought you would like to be out of the focus of the rest of the circus quickly. And I don't want my mother to have a chance to interrupt or stop the ceremony with any second thoughts."
As Ssussun spoke, she pulled out from her cleavage a pair of golden rings on a green ribbon. She danged the two rings in the air, a faint smile on her face. "They are not so fancy, I wish I had time to pick something out that was better. Maybe we can get them engraved or something later." She laid the two rings down on top of the dresser beside her, then pursed her lips.
"I...decided to skip over the kiss in the ceremony. I didn't want you to embarrass us or make people suspicious if you acted squirmy. I'm afraid we may have more then one pair of watchful eyes on us. This has to go off perfectly or else there will be rumors."

Indeed in all appearances, Mikaril was calm, but beneath the surface he was still as turbulent as seawater around a leviathan. In a mere couple of hours time, he would be finding himself inescapably tied to a female whom though he did have some fledgeling feelings for, he had barely known for a year; in the extended lifespan of a drow, it might as well have been a few weeks. He had just finished paying for the mere priviledge, and he was certain that at least four or five of the city's districts had his discription and rendering up on every corner. Thought at least it had also apparently gained him, Kyil, and little Mikkyila the protection of the circus house. He wondered if once it was all over, would he be given the opportunity to finally relax in the knowledge that all that he cared about was protected, or would Ssu seek to seal their pretend bond with something practically impossible to pretend?
To take his mind off of that last thought, Mikaril devoted his mind fully to listening to the procedure of the ceremony. He was grateful for the ceremony's simplicity; the last thing he needed to do was stumble over a reciting of words, or perform a series of gestures in the incorrect order. He truly did not mind that there ceremony was one of possession; that was pretty much the reason they were going about it anyway. Once it was done, they would all be as safe as they could be when the caravan entered Undrek'Thoz, although in spite of that, he would be happier than he had been in a long time once the dreaded city was behind them once more.
Mikaril smiled as Ssu produced the rings, pointedly refusing to lower his gaze to where she had produced them. "I think they look just fine. We don't have to have anything terribly fancy, unless of course you would like to have a fancier one. Me I make it a habit never to show how much wealth I have; it's just asking for trouble." He eyed the rings for a moment longer as they were set down, trying to see them as beautiful ornaments for the finger and not as a miniature shackle. Reminding himself sternly just who it was that he was supposed to be getting 'shackled' to, Mikaril felt himself overcome by yet another wash of gratitude, one that put the shackled image entirely out of his mind. "Thank you; I'm......not very well practiced at kissing, especially not in front of others. I will do my very best not to embarass you or the house. That much I've had plenty of practice in, but the shortened ceremony will help." Suddenly remembering Ssu's first question, he smiled more broadly. "I'd love to wear some geren feathers, so long as you know where they'll go so they don't accidentally make me sneeze."

Ssussun smiled faintly at Mikaril as she watched him. Oh...he was darling. She could see so clearly that he was uneasy. She just wanted to giggle and hug him. It was so rare to find such a...a soft male! Ssussun ran her finger over the ribbon and over the golden loops. "I understand." She said softly. Showing wealth gained attention from the crowds...but Ssussun was used to attention. As a thief though, she didn't think her soon to be husband would want such attention.
Ssussun wanted to make a teasing flirting comment to Mikaril, about how they would have plenty of time to help him overcome his unease over kissing. Yet with Kyil there and watching...those pink eyes felt so heavy on her for some reason, she determined not to say a word. When Mikaril mentioned sneezing, Ssu heard a soft chuckle from Kyil. That little sound gave her a small sense of relief. If he could find something a little funny, perhaps he was not as upset as she feared he might be. Ssussun turned towards her dresser and rose. Carefully she started to paw through the contents as she searched for the feathered clip.
"As our wedding gift, I am requesting the magical overhaul of this place. So it is larger inside then it seem, like Mothers tent. I figure if we have at least two rooms, Kyil and the baby can sleep in one room and well..." Her eyes flickered over to Mikaril and she smiled slightly. "We are going to be married, we need to keep up the illusion right?" And perhaps if they were alone in the room...she might get a little further in her pursuit of him...

Mikaril watched as Ssu begna rummaging about, doubtless for the clip that would adorn his head with feathers. Here it was coming; the moment to dress and soon the moment to emerge from the wagon and make their way to where the ceremony would take place. It seemed as though the moment could sense his unease and was unobligingly rushing to be there. Of course, he still held onto the hope that he might feel better once things were over and done with. He too smiled at the chuckle coming from the bed where Kyil was resting; he hoped that his friend would not be too upset with the entire proceedings. He knew Kyil disapproved, but he didn't want him so worried that he would hinder his healing. He just wanted him to see that he was doing this for him, for their future and their survival. He was even tempted to add that he could have done something a whole lot worse than mock-marry a female who actually was willing to wait for the male to be more comfortable with taking.
He could not hide the eagerness in his expression at the idea of the caravan being made larger. That would mean more space for them all; more room for Kyil to rise and stretch and walk about once he became more healed, more room for Mikkyila to learn to crawl and walk, and more space for him to store valuables, honestly gotten or no. But of course, he knew what was coming even before Ssu said anything; a parting of the rooms, which meant that they would have their own sleeping quarters. And then a greater opportunity for......a certain deed to be done. He wasn't entirely sure that Ssu would want to fake THAT part of the marriage. Oh Goddess, what would he do then? He forced himself to nod and smile a little. "Yes.....the illusion....." Clearing his throat, he eyed the clothes spread ouot on the bed. "Shall we statr dressing then?"

Oh...she was going to get him. She was determined to have her Ril in all ways. She ignored the question over whether she'd be able to honestly let him go like she had promised. If she...if she worked on him...perhaps that would never happen. Ssussun's lips remained parted into a faint smile as she considered the two males. Clearly Mikaril had liked her idea for the separate rooms. She could put Kyil and the baby away so she could work on him in privacy. Mmm. Someday she -was- going to get him to accept her!
As Mikaril would bring up dressing, she nodded her head and stood. Reaching out, she motioned to the male outfit. "You go ahead and put that on. I'll move to the back and get dressed myself. I'll help you with your hair and the clip afterward." She said with a flutter of a wink. Ssussun stood up, picked up her own outfit, and shifted towards the back of the wagon. With a little flick of a curtain, she put up a little privacy wall, and spoke happily.
"Elkaun will be here soon for you Kyil. He's going to bring you something nice to wear as well for the ceremony. I told him nothing garish or foolish." She promised him.
Kyil watched Ssu move to the back. Once she was out of sight, he reached out to take Mikarils hand in a desperate move. He did not want to speak, lest Ssussun heard him..but he could not shake this fear that Mikaril may be making a mistake.

Happy that Ssu was not going to take the opportunity to size up her soon-to-be husband in the nude, Mikaril was all too happy to watch her retreat to the other end of the wagon with her articles of clothing. He was just getting ready to pull off his tunic and get into the decorative top when he felt his hand being taken by Kyil. He looked down at his friend and was pained by the look he saw in his eyes. Such fear for him, such desparation. It made him feel guilty in spite of the fact that he was going through with this for him.
He knew why his friend would not speak, and so he set aside the garment and began to sign to Kyil, standing in front of him so that the heat signature would be obscured by his own body, in case Ssu should be watching from behind the curtain. It will be okay, Kyil. It is as Ssu said, it will only be a pretend marriage. We just have to make it seem as real as possible. And I have not forgotten my promise to you; that should the need arise, we will leave this place and take our chances in the Wilds.

Kyil's gaze slid to the curtain, beyond which he could see Ssussun's heat signature as she dressed. He looked back to Mikaril, and read his hand signs. His eyes fell downcast to his lap, and he silently nodded his head. He did not trust his hands to form the words he needed to speak to Mikaril. He knew they would shake. He felt horrible...laden with guilt over this act. He felt as if this was all his fault. Yet one more failing upon his part. Before he had a chance to lift his head, a knock came at the door or the wagon.
"Ohy! We're here for the baby and guest." Elkaun's cheerful called from outside the door. Kyil glanced over at the door and cleared his throat.
"Just...a few more moments..."

How Mikaril had hoped for Kyil to sign something back, to tell him his feelings so that he could in turn reassure them! Already he knew that Kyil had to be feeling guilty of their situation, even though he should have known that it was not he who was responsible for any of it. It had been Mikaril's own idea to seek help with Ssu, therefore his own doing that they should be here now with a ceremony looming over their heads.
He whirled his head around toward the door at the knock and the sudden cheerful call, and he quickly threw off his shirt and began to dress. He wished he had had more time before they came; now it looked as though he wouldn't have any opportunity to reassure Kyil until the deed was done, and then it wouldn't matter very much what he said. Damn! He hastily pulled the pants on and looked down at himself. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth; he had to admit, he looked pretty good. He wondered what sort of oufit they would clothe Kyil in; hopefully something pink, since he favored the color. Maybe even the rainment would distract Kyil enough for him to not be quite as upset at the entire procedure.
Just as he finished smoothing out a few creases in the top, he turned to Kyil, determined to use his friend's words and have a few precious minutes to themselves. Kyil please, do not worry. It will all work out in the end. Remember how we had both given up in House Torlyl and yet here we are; this could be so much worse, and it is not. We will make it through this, one way or another. Remember how well we work together, how unstoppable we are. We'll always be together; always.

Kyil watched as Mikaril dressed himself. He had to admit that the outfit did look good on him. With the continued reassurances given to him by Mikaril, all he could do was accept it for now. Kyil smiled faintly at Mikaril, and whispered softly. "You...look very nice..."
From the front of the wagon, Ssu's voice floated happily through the air. Pushing the curtain aside, she stood with a hand on her hip and fluffed some of the feathers. "You do look very handsome in green my little husband to be." She giggled softly and moved to pick up the feather clip from before. "Elkaun, you can come in now." She called while gesturing to Mikaril to come to her.
At hearing the summons; Elkaun pushed the door open and peered inside. "I brought something fairly nice for our little pink eyed friend." He boasted as he held up a pair of white and gold pants. Kyil looked at it thoughtfully, then shook his head as Sszor held up a matching top silently.
"I...will be grateful for the change of garments at least." He spoke softly and shifted on the bed. Ssussun glanced over her shoulder and made a gesturing motion. "Why don't you boys take Kyil to your wagon and get him prepared. He should be waiting when we make our appearance. Sszor, just wait outside until we leave okay?"
Sszor nodded his head silently, and Elkaun stepped up into the wagon to offer Kyil a hand up. Slowly Kyil rose, and after a moment of wobbling, Elkaun looped a arm around his waist and hoisted him up a bit. "No worries you two. We'll get the cute one here to the tent and waiting!" Kyil's cheeks flushed a bit, though Ssussun's laughter caused him to relax a tiny bit.

Mikaril chuckled and lowered his head at Kyil's hushed compliment. "Thank you-" He straightened up as Ssu reemerged and obediantly walked over to her in order to stand still and have her administer the hair clip. He was glad for the chance to look at Ssu and be reassured that her eyes bore only eagerness and not traces of the all-too-familiar lust. As much as she had told him that she had no intention of claiming him in taht way until he deemed himself ready, he was always searching her eyes for it, convinced that like the promise of Eilistraee, it was simply too good to be true.
He wanted so badly to turn hs head and see Kyil's outfit, but he remained still so that Ssu could adjust the feathery clip. He figured he would be able to see it during the ceremony; he intended to give Kyil Many sideways glances to assure his friend that all was well. His forehead wrinkled a little with worry when Ssu suggested that Kyil be taken to another wagon, but remembering how the two had helped them when Kyil had given birth to Mikky, he relaxed again. "Don't worry Kyil; I'll see you at the ceremony, okay?" Hearing them leave, he was able to focus completely on Ssu. "Will Sszor be carrying Mikkyila?"

It was only a clip...but Ssussun fussed a great deal over getting it in Mikaril's hair perfectly. She wanted it to fan out in such a way that it looked...well...handsome on him. But not gaudy. Her fingers picked and fluffed the edges of the feather as she bit her bottom lip.
"Hmm?" She hummed and looked back to Mikaril. Now that they were alone...not counting the baby, she felt far more freedom to lean forwards and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "Yes. Sszor is going to hold her in the back of the tent, so if she starts to fuss he can take her out...hmm...you know...we have a few minutes while the rest gather in the tent..and we're pretty much all set...how about we sit down over there and make good use of the time?"
