Explanation of the Wand Wood

The Black Phoenix Ash is a rare tree that is only found in a few locations in the world. It is grown from a sapling ash tree that a Phoenix 'rebirthed' itself on. The fire chars the tree but the nutritious ash left behind revitalizes the sapling. It usually grows into a tree about 12'-15' in height, has black wood and glossy dark green leaves. It blossoms once every ten years, but another tree cannot be grown from the seeds. The flowers can be carefully stewed and turned into an elixir that heals wounds- like phoenix tears.

The tree is very strong and rigid, and is usually located on land where peaceful tribes exist. Two known trees can currently be found in Tibet in a Monastery, and in the United States of America on a Native American Reservation. The saplings need careful long-term care to grow to adult hood, so many potential trees die from lack of proper assistance.

The ones that do grow often become ugly and twisted, don't sprout many leaves or bloom at all, and slowly lose their magical properties. However you might still feel an ominous aura coming from the tree, even after it has fallen over or been turned into logs or furniture.

The trees are often sacred to those who populate the land it grows on, and every fallen leaf or stick is carefully kept and used for various purposes. For example- the leaves can also be mashed into a poultice to help heal burns.

The monks at the Tibetian monastery knew of Magic, and when Godfrey proved his need to possess a stick from the tree, they put him down to receive the next fallen piece. Three and a half years later there was a storm that dislodged the tip of a tree branch and the wand was made in Tibet with the feather of a Chinese phoenix because that was the material available that best suited Godfrey.

The wand is very rigid and looks pretty much like a stick. The wand maker was very old and was one of the few who had knowledge of this wood passed down to him- it worked much better if left in its natural state. The end was only carved down slightly to form a handle, and was decorated simply.

Note on the Feng Huang (Chinese Phoenix) Feather- It is my opinion that the Feng Huang is a more 'ying and yang' type of Phoenix. It is not so strictly light as the familiar British Phoenix, but is adapted more to operating on a scale of grey rather than black and white, commanding magical balance.

Such is this that I think Godfrey will not be able to command a large variety of magics until he discovers how to break the block on his ability to cast water and water related magics.

Gofdrey likes wearing funky belts but isn't one for jewelry, except for a wristwatch. He has good fashion sense and always matches.

He also believes wizards shouldn't shun muggle technology, but again they should still work to preserve and modify the old ways as long as they still have a purpose.

Character's Major Struggles, past and present: Godfrey, like many teenagers, struggles with his own identity constantly. He also struggles to learn magic, theory is easy enough for him, but it's difficult to do the practical aspects. Godfrey struggles with inner problems, such as his dislike for Harry, his feelings about when Gilderoy went away, and the fact that he rarely acts 100% like himself. He often hides behind a childish persona as a safety net, and this came about because of his issues with his parents.

Appearance: Much like his father, Voldemort, in his younger days. His face and eyes are a bit softer, and his black hair has a certain amount of trademark potter unrulyness to it. Phoenix has a tall but medium frame and is muscled but not overly so, without a six/four pack on his stomach. He's about 6' 1"

Dress: He dresses comfortably in clothes that make it easy to run in. Usually he wears black jeans or pants, black or blue sweaters or t-shirts. He always wears a pair of sunglasses to hide his eyes when out amongst muggles, making it appear that he needs glasses to see.

Politics: Phoenix lives more in the muggle world than the Magical world. He knows it would never be possible to find the right magical people who could correctly and indefinitely rule the magical and muggle world together, but that's what he wishes would happen. He believes magic and non-magic people could live together in relative peace with the right leadership, and he dislikes having to hide his magic.

Phoenix makes smoking look sexy again
Phoenix can't clean up after himself or organize for crap, Cillian always has to come over and do it for him.

Character's Major Struggles, past and present: Phoenix struggles with the reputation of his parents, of making his own way in the world, of whether he really cares to do so one way or the other. He struggles with his feelings for his younger brother, and his mixed feelings about himself dealing with how he has to kill vast numbers of other people in order to survive.

His discomfort about leeching magic off of people just by being around them leads to him living more in the muggle world then in the magical world. Phoenix is unable to replenish his own magic when he exhausts it, unlike normal witches and wizards.

The life forces of different people often has different effects on him, especially when he's younger and can't control it as well. He eventually takes up smoking because it helps relax him during the prosses of assimilating their life force.
