Synopsis: Katrina calls Cedric to meet her at the cave to discuss something of importance. The something in question is the possibility of teaching Jhovam to enter the dragon world and other information about dragons so that he may start exploring the deep relationship that he shares with his silver dragon. Cedric gives her as little information as possible and ends their meeting to go plan crafty things.

Cedric waited, as they had agreed, by the cave. He was a bit early, but that was always safer because time ran differently here than in their world. So a minute late could be fifteen minutes late, here. Not that there was much of a way to tell time except by the unfamiliar sun and the shadows of an unfamiliar world.

He waited calmly by the entrance, standing and watching a dragon flying over head. He supposed that Katrina's dragon might land here before they made the switch, so that her human wouldn't have to walk far. He swung a leather necklace with a carved bone charm on it. His wife had insisted on making it for Katrina once she heard that Cedric had run into one of his children. The bone was actually dragon bone, and the two of them suspected that it had magical properties. Cedric wore one himself around his neck, carved in the shape of a winged lizard meant to resemble his family crest. The one he had brought for Katrina was carved in the shape of a horse, a symbol for beauty where they came from.

Not being able to correctly estimate the time difference, it was still some time before Katrina showed up. She had her dragon land a little ways off because she injoyed walking in the forest. With a somewhat hurried pace she made it to the cave.

"Sorry" she said sheepishly to her father. "I'm not so good with the time difference thing yet. I thought I would have more time." Apologizing to a man was absurd to most women, but she was late and she would have been more apologetic had he been a girl, due to the age difference and their relation. It was, very literally, the least she could do.

"Thanks for meeting me. I guess I wasn't so sure you would want to after the first time we met."

He was cool, a bit aloof for a man of his honorable nature meeting his long lost child. Showing the appropriate emotions, emotions like concern for her wellbeing, hadn't gone over so well last time. And anyway, she was full grown.

He stretched out his hand, palm up, the necklace dangling from his fingers. "This is for you," he said without much explanation. "The books are inside, in case it rains. You won't take them away from here, will you? I'd hate to see them lost. There aren't any copies, I don't think." In an age where the printing press wasn't widely developed or used, that wasn't so unusual. "Any questions for me?"

In an age where the printing press wasn't widely developed or used, that wasn't so unusual. "Any questions for me?"

She took the necklace in her hand and looked at the beautifully carved pendant that hung from the tough leather cord. It was made from some type of bone, smooth to the touch and pleasing to the eye. Her hand ran over the curves of the horse shaped charm.
"Thank you" she said "its very beautiful." She took a moment to swing it over her head and lower it onto her neck. The charm came to rest oon her chest, where she put a hand on it a moment to get use to the new wieght that now hung there.

"I did have a question for you, the reason I asked you here. You have met others who can travel to the dragon world. Other people from Feteris. The particular one I am talking about is Jhovam and his silver dragon, Rashmak. He told me about how he met you. Why were you so receptive of my presence and so opposed to him coming back to the dragon world?"

Cedric straightened and gave her a stern look, because what he was about to say was important. "You are old enough, he is not. Children cannot have such intimate interactions with their bonded without ill affect. Does he want to be dragon, or human? If he comes here too often, he will be mostly dragon, and that doesn't bode well in a human body." Clearly this was a simplified version of the facts, but considering the very ancient roots of their magic, that was probably the most any one knew.

"You, how often had you come here when you were young? Perhaps you were lucky, and found it a difficult feat to perform, and so you remain unscarred. Or perhaps you have lost your humanity, but you hide it better. I know someone who came here quite often as a young child, and she is the worse for it."

The truth was she had not come very often until recently, her bond with her dragon had become stronger and she took it more seriously now.
"Why would that happen? You and I have sufffered no ill affects from travelling here and I assume you do more often than I. What do you mean by mostly dragon?" Questions welled up in her like a hunger and Cedric could probably have gotten the impression that a simple explination would not be enough to placate the wide-eyed and stubborn young girl.

The truth was that Katrina so loved Drxisisliege that she could not ever imagine the dragon hurting her. Drex echoed that with a claming thought and Katrina resisted the urge to smile outwardly, though she responded to Drxisisliege with her own expression of pleasent sensations.

Cedric didn't like being challenged, but he would try to explain. He sighed. "It has to do with how old you are. If you are old enough, then your dragon's mind is settled. They are less wild. When you both are so young, the dragon is wild, and so you too will become wild as you come in contact with them. It will warp your mind. The dragon will overpower you, and you will not have much humanity left."

He paused dramatically. "How old are you again? You should be at least 20, I would think, before coming here regularly. 18 before coming here at all, if you could help it."

"I am 22." She stated. She would have added 'and I'll come here as often as I like' but she schooled the rebelious thought quickly. And I was about 20 when I started experimenting with Drxisisliege. I knew she existed before, but I always thought of her as part of my imagination. Like a dream that you keep having night after night. Only when I was older did I find it odd and begin to seriously doubt my sanity or its existence." Katrina thought a bit. "Crossing the barrier isnt the only thing we can do with the bonded is it? I have realised that I have been able to do things that other women with the magic cannot do. Is that because of the dragon?" The question was leading somewhere, but she needed ton be sure about this first.

"Er..." Cedric shifted a bit uncomfortably, changing the majority of his weight from one foot to the other and back again. "I suppose it might be," he admitted, "It could be." He knew that the next question might very well be something he couldn't answer, so he was reluctant to let the conversation lead in that direction. But he was also certain that his daughter was strong-willed and stubborn, and that if he did not entertain her curiosities to the utmost of his abilities, she would find him of no further use and leave.

As much as it would make his life less complicated if she were to simply, and literally, vanish, he would feel guilty for driving kin off. He was probably the only man in Tok that knew how to talk to a Feretris woman without getting someone's throat slit. His proud bloodline especially would not put up with the constant disrespect that tinged every word out of her mouth. Or maybe Cedric was letting his imagination dominate his sense.

He cleared his throat. "It's quite possible, actually. I don't know what type of magic your dragon weilds, but I might be able to guess by what you tell me. I'm pretty sure, uh, from my own experiences, that they can lend us magic for a short time if they please."

"I dont know...its just, sometimes I can see things." Katrina huffed, fustrated at her lack of words to explain the phenomenon. "I can physically see things I should not. I can see PAST walls. I havent been able to do it on command, its only happened a few times, but it has happened. And every time it happens I feel Drxisisliege. I know it comes from her." Now that she knew the dragons could lend magic, she wondered if was as dangerous for Jhovam. She wanted to teach Jhovam about the dragons, and she didnt want to wait.

"I can put people to sleep," Cedric admited with a smile, "something I wish I'd learned how to do a bit earlier. You'll have to talk to your dragon about all that. It can tire them out to lend you too much for too long, of course. Don't overextend yourself if you don't have to."

Cedric gestured to the cave. "Books are in there. Any further questions for me?"

"Yes. Your interesting and all, but I need someone else I can talk to about dragons. Is there any way to tell someone as bonded?" Katrina was wondering. Between the three of them, she could see no connection. A sudden thought occured to her.
"Are there only three of us? Is that why this knowledge isnt public? If there were more, we could be a powerful faction." It paid to keep hidden, but the power that being bonded afford one should be used to its full potential. If there were others, they could form a powerful political force in Feteris.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 06, 2006 2:18 pm

"What sort of faction?" he asked, more interested in that than in how to tell one another apart. "There's no way to tell, unless you happen to see one of us switch with our dragon. Then suddenly a dragon is running around, and that's a bit hard to miss, isn't it?"

"I dont have to tell you about the political system in Feteras. Those with power are respected and rule, those without it serve. Bonded humans have more power, therefore they are more fit to rule than those without it. Women with dragons would be able torule even over those with just normal magic and men with bonded would be much more valuable breeders." Katrina wieghed the possibilities in her mind. They would have to keep an eye on male bonded so that they understood the dangers of being bonded and did not hurt anyone else. But if Cedric could do it on his own, then it would not be to hard for the women of Feteras to teach men how to control their dragon's as well.

"However, the real reason I wanted to know about such superior magics, is because I want Jhovam to at least learn something about dragons. As long as he does not cross worlds, would it still be dangerous to try and discover Rashmak's available magic?"
