Having pups.. She had not thought about it that often before she agreed to stay with Cocidius. When she was told she was going to have them, though.. It was as though a new light shone through her life. She and Cocidius were now mates, and they had created life together.

Kalina was relaxing lightly amounst the brush of their new home, their territory where her beloved had found plenty of responsibilities. It was lovely to have a home. From rumors, she heard that her mate's new teammate was also having a litter. There would be plenty of young ones wondering about on Draug's beautiful fields.

Each one of the three adorable bundles of furr was special to her in a different way. Their colours were the perfect blend of her and their father, each time she looked at them she was reminded of how very much she was in love at this point.

"Try to behave yourselves," She called to them, but she reached out and picked up her son with her teeth. She set him between her with her front legs and started to lap lightl at his furr.

Gaia wasn't really listening to her mother or father. There was a butterfly moving about and she was snapping her teeth to get it. Her eyes were glowing bright, showing how innocent and happy she was.

They were blessed to be born in a pack full of nice wolves. She was told about the pup watcher, and she was curious about her. Her whole body wiggled before she lept upwards, attempting to jump up high and snapping her jaw once more.

"Omo~" She whined when it flew out of view, plopping down on her butt and pouting a little to herself.

Big, warm tongue, tugging his baby-soft fur this way and that. Big, warm momma’s paws, holding him in more of an embrace than a grip, making sure he didn’t wiggle away during this most important washing - which wasn’t an impossibility, after all, as at first the mossy little pup flailed his legs at the sudden disappearance of the ground. He hadn’t been planning anything troublesome or nefarious, so to speak, when his mother snatched him up for an impromtu bath, and though he rather liked a good cleaning, today he felt a bit twitchy. Still being so new to the world meant that there were several things he needed to investigate, and he just knew that if he could somehow sneak away, a great many secrets would unfold before him. How could a little harmless curiosity be misbehaviour?

Cernunnos was a tranquil-enough little fellow, full of patience when it mattered and when it happened to work in his favour; but he could see his sister playing, romping around with a little fluttering butterfly, and, well! He trembled a bit, wanting so much to be the one lolloping after that winged creature, slightly amused to see Gaia jump and miss, slightly perturbed that the butterfly had the audacity to tease his sister so. “Mu-um!” he softly whined, flipping his head back onto her soft chest, eyes wide and soulful. “Mumma, really! I’m clean! An’ I’m not gonna get in trouble, cross my heart. Kay?”

Cern wanted his mother's approval more than he wanted his own freedom, but that still didn't stop him from begging.

Athena lay not far from her mother, her body stretched out in a relaxed manner. Though her eyes were wide and alert to everything around her. With a slight tip of her head she watched her sister Gaia do her best to catch a butterfly. While it seemed like a fun way to pass the time Athena was too engrossed with watching and studying the others to play just yet. The way her sister jumped about made Athena think there had to be a better way to go about catching that small winged prey she was after. Perhaps a different angle of approach?

Slowly her attention turned to her mother and brother. Eyes moved other to two as they lay together, their mother was doing a pretty good job of cleaning Cernunnos just now. As her brother began to squirm and claim that he was clean she wondered just what he was up to. Cern's eyes had been on Gaia as she chased the butterfly. Perhaps he though he could do a better job of catching the fluttering creature than Gaia could. Well if that was the case Athena would watch him, see if he did any differently than Gaia and if he did and was successful in his attempts well then she would remember how he did it for later use.

A smirk tugged onto Kalina's maw and she had to shake her head a little. It was hard to believe her son was innocent when he was squirming and begging to get away. He was so adorable, though, how could she deny him?

It seemed she had too much of a soft spot for her pups.

"All right, Cern," Came her tone, soft and adoring as she leaned to nuzzle at him a little. "Stay close and keep an eye on your sisters, though." Not that she wouldn't be doing the same thing, but she knew Cernunnos would be a very good brother.

"Athena," Kalina called softly to one of her two pups, "Do you want your bath this morning?" Normally she didn't ask, but her daughter was out of reach and part of the large femme felt like being a little lazy as she spent time with her pups.

”Woo!”

Given the all-assuring go-ahead, Cern paused long enough to enjoy a good nuzzle before scrambling a bit awkwardly from between his mother’s legs. Finding his paws was still a fair task for him, but soon enough he was standing tall with his little tail banging about wildly behind him; he smiled up at his mother, then at each of his sisters, feeling rather accomplished that he would be given the task of watching over them. Not that they really needed his help, he thought, feeling that they were strong-enough individuals that he didn’t need to be breathing down their necks - but oh, at the present, there was that teasing butterfly! Knowing that his tactitionally-minded sister was watching him, Cern jogged purposefully to where the butterfly had left his sister in the dust. “Mind if I try?” he asked, gently touching his nose to Gaia’s ear before falling into a low, low crouch.

The butterfly was fumbling erratically through the air, its landing spot impossible to guess. Cern followed it with his eyes, creeping forward only when it seemed a bit too far, until finally, it landed on a small dandilion. Paw over paw, belly dragging through the grass, Cern gathered up his most powerful preserves of patience and approached with about the same intensity of a slug; slowly, but surely. The butterfly hopped to the next flower and Cern changed direction, until finally he lay almost nose-to-nose with the little bug. Not moving, not moving, not moving…

The butterfly bounced onto his nose, lightly, and grinning widely Cern whispered, “I caught it!” as he slowly lifted himself up. Perhaps sitting with a butterfly perched at the tip of his nose, wings extended and gently fluttering, was a bit of a silly pose - but he had never meant to actually harm it, and suppressing a giant yelp of success he felt his little chest swell.

Athena looked over at her mother as Cern was granted his freedom. "Yes mother." Was her simple response to whether she wished to have a bath or not. Bathing was important after all, it kept one clean and also posed as some good one on one bonding time. Standing Athena slowly walked towards her mother, though she stopped short as she saw her brother crouching down and sneaking up on the butterfly. His method was certainly interesting, but the more important question was would it work.

Eyes studied what he was doing carefully and critically. Ah, now she understood what he was doing. He wasn't merely going to jump after the butterfly like Gaia had been doing, no he was trying to blend in, trick the small insect into coming to him. When Cern sat up triumphantly with the butterfly perched on his nose Athena let out a huff. "You did not catch it, it caught you." She told him plainly before taking the last few steps over to her mother and laying down between her front paws, but making sure that she could see her two siblings while she got her bath.

Cocidius was heading up towards the den; even now with pups and a form of relationship forming with Kalina he did not like to spend to much time around them all, he did not feel comfortable around them. Knowing the nature of his old pack and what became of pups and how they were brought into the brotherhood, it was strange to consider that now he was a father to his own, flesh and blood, not just an adoptive parent, if it could of even be called such a thing. More to the point he actually enjoyed being around Kalina, she was patience and never asked much of him, allowing him his freedom but also warmth when he craved it, not like the stories he had been brought up to believe about females. It was going to be a while before he was truly comfortable around them all.

As he crescent the hill towards the den his eyes came to rest upon the view, he smiled warmly though slightly awkwardly at Kalina, never knowing if she was going to suddenly turn into the females from his childhood tales. Then his attentions turned to his puppies, both Gaia and Athena was watching the shuffling of the nearby area of grass and upon further inspection Cocidius picked out the form of his son crawling along on his belly. He stopped his forward progression and simply watched his sole son for a moment, the boy had potential and this observation caused Cocidius to smiled proudly. Moments later and after displaying a great deal of patience for one so young Cernunnos was rewarded with targetted butterfly perching upon his nose.

Cernunnos rose to show off his prize and Cocidius smiled at his sisters comment. With this Cocidius strode into the immediate area about his families den, 'Maybe so Athena but Cernunnos displayed a lot of skill to get it to trust him like that.' He lay his eyes to rest upon Cernunnos and gently he praised his son, 'It is a good thing to respect one's prey and nature in general. You displayed some skill my boy, well done. We'll have to see how Triton makes use of such natural skill when you grow a little older.' He smiled and then walked past Cernunnos, his eyes now fixed to that of his violet eyed mate. He came to her side and affectionately nuzzled her behind the ear though said nothing before turning and sitting just off to her right hand side.

There seemed to be a glow to her bright eyes as she caught the sight of her mate. Her tongue stuck out, lapping at her young daughter's furr to clean her properly. Gaia would be last to clean, but it would be rather difficult to get the poor girl to stay in one spot long enough. All of the pups were squirming more and more.

As she felt the warmth and affection of Cocidius, she paused in her cleaning to give him a soft nuzzle in return. "I'm glad you're here in time to see our little Cernunnos becoming like his father." Her words were light and content, obviously enjoying her time with her pups and now her mate.

They were a strange family indeed, but unlike many, they seemed to love eachother for their odd quirks. She could only hope that she would prove to be a good mother to her pups and raise them to be good, strong but loving wolves. "All right, Athena, darling. You're done. Gaia, come here."

There was a slight wiggle to her butt when she saw the way her brother was able to catch the butterfly. She was so jealous! Cern got to do everything well~ He must have gotten it from their father. "Cerny is amazing~!"

A huge, bright grin tugged onto her maw as she caught sight of her father, about to bound over and pounce on him when she heard her name called by her mother. "But mom.." A small whine left her as she moved as slowly as she could towards her mother, not wanting a bath.

Her ears were flat against her head, looking rather stubborn and bratty.

"Can I just jump in the river?"

Cern was a little put off by Athena’s lack of enthusiasm, and giving the butterfly on his nose a good long stare he wondered if it had, in actuality, captured him first. But that didn’t seem right, and Cern hadn’t heard of any other cases of butterflies snatching up puppies - - -

A deep, comforting, wonderful voice stole his attention away, his ears twitching suddenly as Cernunnos became aware of his father’s presence; his strong, confident father, who praised his butterfly-catching skills and warmed the pup with confidence as if his prey had been as big as a moose, instead. The little pup almost vibrated with a little excited whimper, wanting to remain perfectly still but just as powerfully wanting to rush for his father’s big paws. The butterly, however, seemed to have less patience than he - or was disturbed by his attempts at unmoving, Cern wouldn’t bother himself with the details - for with a wafty, lazy, haphazard sort of shimmy, it bumped itself into the air and took to the breezes. Ah well, he thought, turning bright eyes to regard his father with an obvious mix of excitement and affection. Father didn’t come around too often, after all, and hearing words of praise - ! ”You really think I’ve got a ‘natural skill,’ Father? You really think?” he waggled, eyes growing ever wider at the mention of Triton - the Hunting Trainer, if he remembered right. “An’ I can become a hunter like you, one day, then, right? An’ see all the different animals? An’ - an’ -”

Losing all control over language, Cern wisely shut his mouth and let his little tail bang away his joy. He gathered up his thoughts, put them in line one by one as though they were eggs, and panted a little before continuing, “Thank you, father! I won’t disappoint you, I don’t think. I’ll try my best, anyways.”

Cernunnos, the Hunter - it had a nice ring to it, and glowing, Cern sat his little self down. As his father and mother nuzzled a bit he turned his attention to Gaia, whom he knew would share his excitement. “I bet you could catch a butterfly too, just like that,” he assured his sister, “after your bath. We could go find another and you could catch it, I think! An’ Athena, too, I wanna know how you would have caught the butterfly. Just curious.”

He really was just curious, and now that the option of play was open he watched his parents for any signs of dissent.

Her head slowly turned around to look in the direction of her fathers voice, a smile appearing on her maw. "I never said that it was a bad thing." As far as Athena was concerned whether the butterfly caught Cern or Cern caught the butterfly it didn't matter as long as the small prey was attained. She also knew that had Cern been hunting something large like a deer then it would have mattered, because the larger prey could hurt wolves.

At her mothers words Athena stood and gave her mother a quick nuzzle before walking off. Laying down not far away she looked over at Gaia and laughed. Typical Gaia not wanting a bath. She would learn eventually that baths were important or live the rest of her life as a stinky wolf. For Athena's sake she hoped Gaia would submit to baths because a stinky sibling would be no fun.

Letting out a small huff at her brother who seemed to be basking in their father attention Athena glanced up to watch the butterfly make it's way through the air this way and that. She hadn't quite figured out how she would have caught the butterfly had she been given the chance, after all she was too busy studying her siblings movements to think about catching it herself. "I'm not sure how I would have done it Cern." She admitted truthfully, had the butterfly stuck around she may have given it a shot.

As Cocidius sat himself down next to Kalina he listened to the excitement pour out of Cernunnos and a glimmer of amusement danced across his forest green eyes, the young male seemed infused with hope for future things which he was only to happy to see, the male pup seemed eager to please and more importantly eager to learn. He demonstrated a great deal of self control for someone so young as he calm the onslaught of words and focused them down, promising to do his best to which Cocidius simply bowed his head and smiled encouragingly at the boy.

The girls, although he loved he was wary of, years of fearing the opposite sex had left it's scares upon the grown male and images of the two and Kalina trapping him some how always gave him reason for nightmares no matter how much he tried to school himself. Athena seemed a little calmer, watchful and observant while Gaia set his nerves on edge, the spirited young female seemed so jumpy it unsettled him. He watched Gaia now as she protested her mothers commands and his eyes widened a little in fear but schooling himself he calmed his imagination and focused instead on the conversation occurring between Athena and Cernunnos. After listening for a little he suggested something. 'Butterflies are all well and good but how about I introduce you to a little fellow I've befriend and see if he'll give you three a game of tag, then we can see who demonstrates true talent.' He smiled, 'What do you say to that?'
