If you just give me a brief bio of the little one then that's fine. <3 If you were to want to, say, have her play a more major role in Maisalyn's life other than just foster-child (or grow up to be a candidate) then you can toss up a proper profile for her. - Sheeps

Name: Maisalyn
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Weyrbrat/Busybody of the Lower Caverns/Candidate

History:
Maisalyn is Weyrborn and bred; her father an unidentified rider and her mother a former Holder who left for the sanctuary of High Reaches Weyr's Lower Caverns, though she was raised by yet another, as is the Weyr way, fostered to another former-Holder-turned-Lower-Caverns-worker named Jaina. When not busy being shuffled between one task or another (Weyrbrats need to earn their keep, after all!) or having grand adventures with best friend and mischief-maker Azuran, she was busy pestering traders, visiting Harpers, and anyone else she could get to let her follow them around to learn anything they'd care to teach. She's picked up all manner of odd skills and random information over the years--she can talk about the migration patterns of shipfish, how the current Istan harvest compares to last year's, and who's most likely to end up doing a drunken dance on top the tables at the coming Hatching feast. A sponge for knowledge, Jaina was busy trying to convince the young Maisalyn to become a Harper or perhaps some sort of Craftsperson--but Maisalyn would have none of it. Reluctant to leave the Weyr and even more reluctant to commit to a single path--except perhaps becoming Headwoman one day, though relatively young Jilis' rise to that position meant the girl's ambition was rather unlikely to occur--Maisalyn kept from criticism by proving useful in whatever task was asked of her, and spent the majority of her days meandering about the Weyr.

Recently she's acquired a foster, Caryo, whose particular knack for getting into places she shouldn't be was deemed a good challenge for Maisalyn to encourage to a more productive path (as she's managed so nicely getting Azuran to behave). Where ever Maisalyn wanders, Caryo is sure to follow.

Appearance:
Maisalyn is petite at sixteen--unlikely to grow much more than her current five feet, two inches, but she nonetheless posesses a stocky, curvy build that gets her a not insignificant amount of attention from the boys. She has a kind, round face, and actually looks a little younger than she really is. Her hair is a thick chestnut brown that falls past her shoulders in natural waves, and her eyes are a warm brown. Despite her usually unassuming, friendly appearance, she can sport a motherly Look strong enough to stop most troublemakers right in their tracks.

Personality:
Maisalyn was pegged as "responsible" at an early age, even despite her flighty career tendencies, and thus she often ended up in a caregiving role much earlier than her peers. She was encouraged to be friends with best friend and fellow Weyrbrat Azuran on account of the fact her foster-mother Jaina hoped Maisalyn would be a steadying influence on the budding troublemaker. Likewise, even at the age of sixteen, Maisalyn's already fostering a child, Caryo, under Jaina's supervision. Once given a task, Maisalyn completes it to the best of her ability--it's a matter of pride.

And if there's one thing the girl has in spades, it's pride. Not arrogance, but a deep sense of her own self-worth, and also an utter inability to acknowledge her own faults. While she may apologize for smaller matters such as bumping someone accidentally in the hallway, or forgetting some important occasion...when it comes to more serious matters, Maisalyn will never admit she could possibly be at fault once she has made a decision--often believing that she has more knowledge of a situation than others, and so her judgment cannot be contested. On the other hand, she usually does take great care to be well-informed, so she might be right...(or she might just be an a**. Sometimes she even manages both.)

She derives a great deal of self-worth from her lineage as well; Jaina told her once her father was a brown rider and so, knowing well the reputation of the steady, responsible brown dragons and their riders, has done her best to live up to that lineage, hoping that her father, whoever he is, might derive some pride in his daughter. She can be a bit jealous of the Holder-candidates who have more established families, as she often thinks she wouldn't mind knowing who her father is even if she doesn't think they'd ever be close. It is perhaps the only thing she'll ever admit the Holders might have "right."

And matters of "right" are important to Maisalyn--it could still be her youth, but she sees the world in black and white--no shades of grey here! And, in nearly all matters, she believes the Weyr's social systems are vastly superior to that of the Hold certainly, and often the Craftsfolk. She's been influenced by growing up in the Lower Caverns and often hearing stories of those forced to leave their Holds on account of prejudice, or even simply those who preferred the Weyr's more liberal lifestyle, which has only served to reinforce her own prejudices on the matter. While it's not likely she'll discriminate particularly against Holders-become-riders, she will not doubt often take issue with Holders themselves.

Ghenza, of course, is right out. She'd be completely unable to understand their attitudes, especially towards riders.

Despite her prejudices, she is still very curious about the world outside the Weyr (she'd just never live there!) and enjoys learning all she can about anything she can. Her curiosity extends to wanting to know all about the people in the Weyr as well, and she takes satisfaction in collecting gossip--not necessarily to disseminate (though she's not opposed to passing on a good piece of gossip!) but just so she can feel privileged to know.

Maisalyn is an expert at mothering/older sistering, which is part of the reason she's been fostering. Though she wasn't entirely able to keep Azuran out of trouble (sometimes even the temptation of mischief was too good for even Maisalyn to refuse!), she was very good at keeping him in line for the most part. She thrives on the busyness of the Lower Caverns, and she's pretty good at motivating younger children to keep busy (and helpful!) while she's at it. She's very much the sort of person others come to for advice: calm, collected, and with a ready smile.

Other: She'll be a Candidate more out of duty to offering the dragons a wider choice, not because she necessarily thinks she'll Impress--she's actually pretty happy in the Lower Caverns.

((Also, Caryo's about eight Turns, does she need her own profile/submission or can she piggyback on Maisalyn for now?))
