Pilot had been walking back from the grocery store when it happened. He’d only been allowed to go out and get the milk on his own because Mom was sick and Uncle Morphy couldn’t leave her alone. So he’d been given the money and a list of items and everything had been peachy till he heard this horrible squealing noise and a burst of hot air hit him as something blurred past him before a loud bang was heard deafening him temporarily. Like in some horror movie his Mom watched he’d turned around to see in horrid fascination a car wrapped around a telephone pole like a glove, metal, bodies and blood spread everywhere.
And then he’d felt it. The buzz of one of the people inside the car flickering in and out, He’d hoped for a second that they’d be alright.
And then it went out and didn’t come back.

Kay had just been out and about for no reason. With his growth spurt he'd taken to wandering around alone, since Switch finally let him without too much of a fuss. He'd felt Pilot's presence; he could feel every Curio's presence, and he was wandering over to grace the younger Curio with his own presence...but that train of thought and action was stopped in it's tracks when he heard the crash.
Like Pilot, he turned to stare at the horrible scene and, like Pilot, he felt the life go out as easily as one would blow out a candle. He looked away from the crash to stare at Pilot, then back at the crash itself. Hell, there was a dead person in there! Pilot was too young to deal with death! But, oddly, Pilot was the only other person on the street.
Horrible memories flooded Kay's mind. He wanted to run away, to run back home and forget this ever happened. But...Pilot was there, Pilot was young, and there were others in that car still! There was a momentary battle in his mind between fight and flee, until, eventually, fight won.
"Aww Hell...PILOT!" Kay called out, his voice faltering for just a moment, moving from where he was to instead head to the accident; one of them may have been dead, but there were others that needed help. "GET HELP!" He yelled, now beside the smoking car that was somehow still running. Kay was trying to open the car doors; but all of them were either locked or jammed shut. He looked around; there were no rocks he could use.

Kay? Where had Kay come from? His thoughts felt as though they were moving through molasses as everything around him slowly registered. Help. Yes, he could get help. He’d spotted a pay phone on his way to the store. It was just around the corner... past the crash. Hearing his heart pound in his ears he broke into a sprint, eyes averted from the terrible scene, and raced around the corner to where the phone was only to trip just before he reached it. Feeling his breathe go out of him in a quiet puff as he hit the ground he turned to see what he had tripped on.
And promptly threw up.
It was a little girl, just a year or two younger than he was. Her pale blonde curls where strewn around her head like a halo and if it wasn’t for the pole sticking out of her chest he could almost convince himself she was sleeping. It was no wonder he didn’t notice her, her buzzing had gone out too.
Feeling the fleetingness of life suddenly hit him like the car had the pole he flung himself at the Pay Phone and practically pounded the Zero key as he fumbled with the phone itself. He didn’t think he’d heard anything better in his life than when the friendly tones of “Operator, how can I help you?” reached him.
“T- There’s been an a- accident. S- S- end help. Please.” He said desperately clutching the phone, voice breaking from his horror.
The voice of the operator turned deadly serious in a split second, “Can you tell me where you are? What are the conditions.”.
“I- I’m on Lesfed Street, there was a c- car crash. It smashed into a pole and- Oh god there was a little girl! She’s my age!” Pilot said growing hysterical towards the end, tears sliding freely down his face.
“Shh, Shh. Stay calm. It’ll be alright – Helps on the way. Is there anyone else with you.” The operated said calmingly, she didn’t think having a hysterical kid would help anything.
“Yeah. Kay’s here... He’s trying to get into the c- car.” Pilot said looking around now desperate for Kay, he was familiar and seemed to know what to do.

Thud. Pause. Thud. Pause. Thud. Pause.
Kay's fists came flying at the window for the fourth time, the cracking glass finally shattering under the force and momentum of his hits. Of course, the shattering glass was nowhere near clean and Kay stepped back a bit, shaking his scratched up hands like it would fling the pieces of glass away from them. " He sound see their blood, smell their blood, and while it was impossible he was sure he could taste it, too. Kay groaned and swayed on the spot, his mind goind dangerously fuzzy, that almost familiar blackness swelling on the edges of his mind. The blood. He wanted it. He wanted to touch it, he wanted to taste it, he wanted to feel that unique source of heat, that warm liquid...
Shaking his head violently, he momentarily fled back to Pilot, putting his slightly bloodied hands on the younger boys shoulders once the phone call ended, making him look at him. Kay looked ill, but he was absolutely determined to keep himself awake, to not submit himself to that particular darkness.
"Pilot. Listen to me. I need you to do something for me, okay? It's really important, and it could save the other people in the car." Kay's voice was flat and demanding, trying to be strong for the both of them; to fight back his own inner demons, and to keep Pilot from going insane himself. "I need you to go buy blankets and first aid kits." Obviously, Kay had neither on him, but he took out his wallet and pressed it into Pilot's hands. "Blankets and First Aid Kits. Okay, Pilot? As fast as you can." With that he turned the silver haired boy around, not letting him look at the scene, and lightly pushed him in the right direction, back into town. Pilot needed a moment to get away, and Kay didn't want to subject him to any of this for any longer than he needed to. Besides...he really did need those things.
Now he was more than happy he watched all those morbid TV shows late at night.

Pilot stared blankly at where Kay’s hands rested on his shoulders, smudging the blood onto him. When Kay spoke up his head snapped towards his face and stared into Kay’s eyes as he spoke, the empty socket which usually looked comical seemed to have become a gaping hole that sucked him in and wouldn’t let him go. The little girl was in there. Shaking himself slightly, he couldn’t dwell on those thought or he’d never stop, he gave a sharp nod to Kay and tightened his grip on the wallet that had been thrust into his hand, “First Aid Kits and Blankets. Got it.”
And with that he took off at a dead sprint to the supply store, it wasn’t that far away. After this he finally understood why Mom carried that backpack around with her, she’d have had everything she needed to deal with this on her.
In barley over a minute he burst through the doors of the store, the cashier looked up in annoyance and was about to snap at the kid for running in like that when he noticed Pilot’s dishevelled look and the blood that was on him. Going pale the Cashier quickly barked out, “Kid! Are you alright!”
Eyes darting around the shop for the items in question Pilot distractedly replied, his earlier stutter gone now that he had something definite[/.i] to do – not just vague instructions, “There was a car crash. We need First Aid Kits and blankets.”
The cashier darted out from behind the counter and quickly grabbed the items in question before opening the door and jerking his head for Pilot to show the way. Blinking slightly at how quickly the cashier had moved he absurdly wondered for a moment if he still needed to pay before shutting that thought out and leading the cashier at the same pace as before back to the site of the accident.
When they got back the man’s stride stuttered for a second before he headed over to the side of the car, items in his arms and a determined look on his face.
Now with nothing to do his mind couldn’t avoid the situation anymore. Sinking down to the ground Pilot just stared around himself. There was so much pain, even the car was giving off silent screams to him. Where was the ambulance? Where was Help?

When Pilot took off, Kay hesitantly looked over his shoulder at the scene of the accident. There was blood, so much blood...and there was something sadistic in him just aching to get out. To put his fingers in the wounds, to make them bigger, to bask in the glory of another's life forc---
No. No...No. No. No! Kay gritted his teeth and clenched his fists, some shards of glass digging a little deeper into his hands. It pulled him back just a little bit, but that sadistic darkness lingered there, in the corners and edges of his mind.
Now that Pilot was gone, he did his best to help the people inside. He moved who he could, laying the dead on their backs on the ground with their hands folded on their stomachs. The living seemed okay; cut up but alive, so he took them out as well, indulging in inane conversation with the ones that were conscious, hoping to keep them that way.
When they returned, Kay's expression was almost indescribable; he looked ill, but he looked oddly pleased. Being around so much blood (and performing mouth to mouth on one of them didn't quite help) was making him lose it. He was about to go mad but just barely hanging in there. Kay stared in a daze at the store clerk then back at Pilot, resting on the younger boy for a moment before taking the blankets from the clerk, covering all the bodies with their own sheet; the dead's faces were covered and the living's faces remained visable, merely protecting their wounds from airborne infections.
It would have been a shame to taint their blood.
Shaking his head free of that thought, he heard the sirens go off...and took that as his cue to finally leave the scene, heading over to Pilot. He was still about to snap, and his voice was darker with a strange rasp to it when he spoke next.
"I...need you to do one more thing for me." He told the boy, strain in his voice. "Call the Curio shop...the number's in...wallet." A very dark, nearly black eye turned to stare at the payphone; he didn't trust himself to dial on his own, and Pilot was there to help. Then he stared intently at the boy, waiting for him to comply, and to give him the phone.

Pilot nearly cried in relief when he heard the sirens in the distance, the nightmare was almost over. Pulling his legs up to hug against his chest he looked up when he heard footsteps heading towards him. He gave a small broken smile when he saw it was Kay, with the ambulances nearly here and the older boy around everything would be all right. He'd be home soon with his Mom and Uncle Morphy and there would only be comforting hugs and the feeling of safety, no little girls with hauntingly blank eyes. His smile faltered and dropped when Kay spoke, there was something intrinsically wrong with the tone of his voice.
Giving a solemn nod and standing up he turned towards the pay phone which was right nearby and opening Kay’s wallet pulled out the number and some loose change. Inserting the coins and quickly dialling the number he waited as the dial tone rang, waiting for someone to pick up so he could give the phone over to Kay.

Kay barely registered taking the phone, and at first it was Switch on the other end, sounding thoroughly confused. But the young Shaman grunted out a name, and Switch found herself unable to refute his short request. The phone was passed off to the person in question.
The Phone Conversation Roxy had been sitting at the shop minding her own business and by own business that meant rifling through the tons of things that were in Switch's store. When the phone had been for her she rushed off to grab her leaning her head into the crutch. "Hellloooo?" Came her sing song voice.
Kay was sitting down, phone between his head and shoulder, head bowed, knees up and his arms drapped over his knees. "Roxy...Talk to me."
Roxy immediately dropped her happy manner, she stared blankely from the phone and then cardeled it as if unsure of what to say. "Ok..ay Kay...uh...how are you?"
There was a pause. "...Alive." He murmured, sounding like absolute hell; his voice was rasping and he was obviously breathing hard, occasionally drawing in a very sharp breath. "Keep talking. Please just...talk. About anything." Poor Kay sounded like he was trying not to break.
Roxy nodded her head and then set the pacing...it was something she had started to do when nervous. "Well alive is good..." she laughed weakly, " I am glad cause your like my best friend in the whole world you know and I would be sad if you were gone." she continued trying to think up something ti talk about, normally she didn'thave this much trouble. "Uh...ooh want to hear something funny? Gera met up with Dei..not sure if you know him but apparantly Dei has some monster of a black cat that acts as his body gaurd isn't that too funny?" she rambeled.
The corner of Kay's lips twitched into the ghost of a smile when she called him her best friend. He'd be sad if he had to leave her too; he couldn't tell her that, he couldn't bring himself to talk right now. Sure it wasn't the voice he was hoping for, but the last time she brought him back from this dark place she'd been screaming and crying...so this was a step up. Dei, as in Deimos? He knew Deimos...didn't think he had it in him to have such a bad luck pet. "Funny." The rasping voice answered shortly. The black edges were receeding, but they weren't gone. "Keep going." He urged quietly.
Roxy licked her lips her heart was beating unsteadily, as if she was having troubles trying to focus her hand shook a bit as she clung to the phone. Tears threatened she didn't like this...Kay sounded horrible...what had happened she wanted to know, but she could only keep on talking about worthless things.
"....Y..yeah, I mean I was surprised when Gera told me, he ran into them while going on an errand for my Aunt. Milk or something." Her rambling continued though she wasn't sure if she could keep it up. No she had to, despite wanting to know what was going on she knew Kay needed her. "Mrrh and I played some bowling earlier today, I am getting pretty good at the game now, we should have a competition soon, you can see how epic my skills have become." she continued on desperately.
Kay listened to her, focusing on every single word. He had to, he feared that if he let his mind wander, he would lose himself. It'd never happened before, but he didn't want it to happen; it scared the hell out of him. But he could hear it in her voice, she was as scared as he was. "Car Accident...l-lots of....blood...My...mind's going black." He forced himself to say it, hoping it might ease...something...in her. Maybe then she wouldn't sound like she was breaking. "You...made it stop...ast time...please...just...talk." There was a little pause, and he slowly licked his lips. "...Epic, eh? I...don't think you'll ever beat me." The Shaman said quietly, trying to spark up conversation a little bit.
A car accident..blood? Roxy went quiet for a second as the mental image struck her full force...Gera...the blood her screaming. Kay had been there for her when she needed her. She was half tempted to go find Kay now. But if he needed her to speak..then that was she would do. She sat down on the floor leaning against the wall, " Kay listen to me..I don't know what I'd do without you...you can get through this...Gera would miss you...I am pretty sure your his best friend too..." She started more earnestly, she twisted the phone cord in her fingers, "Kay I know its hard right now...but there are so many things I hope to get to do with you...games I want to play...the world would be a much emptier place if you weren't in my life.."
One of Kay's cut and bloody hands lifted, pinching the bridge of his nose like the pain and pressure would help. It wasn't, but he could pretend. Anything to try and get through this easier. Like he was before, he hung on her every word; his rasping and heavy breathing, while still prominent, was already much better than the beginning of the call. "I'm...not leaving." He assured her as best as he could, though a part of him sounded unsure. "You too...so many things." Kay slowly licked his lips; the darkness was still receeding, but still there. "Roxy, I---" He stopped himself, his attention apparently elsewhere. Roxy would have been able to hear someone talking to him, gentle yet demanding. Something about getting glass out and bandaging his hands?
Roxy immediately sat up as if Kay had suddenly disconnected form her, "Kay? kay?? Don't YOU DARE LEAVE ME." She damn near shouted into the phone, the tears were dripping out of the corners of her eyes, " I swear I'll sic Gera on you if you stop talking..." She nearly sobbed rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand.
"I won't." Kay said quietly, a glazed eye staring at the paramedic that was picking out some glass from his hands with a tweezer. It hurt, but he couldn't make any noise. not a flinch, not a hiss of pain. Something sadtistic in him...really enjoyed this pain. Too much to let anyone know it actually hurt. "I promise I won't, never." He murmured, trying to alleviate her fears and to get her to stop crying. The same thing that liked his pain...he didn't want it to like the sound of her distress. "Gera....scares the crap out of me." He managed to get out, with a gasping and forced single laugh.
Roxy nodded her head laughing a bit as well though it felt forced, "F...for good reason.." She managed to say as she hugged her knees to her chest. "K..kay...when can I see you? I'm scared..." she murmured softly, it took a lot for those memories to resurface and it always made her feel like a little girl again..the sight of blood..it made her quiver and want repress those horrible memories..of Gera drenched in red.
Kay went quiet, bowing his head a little more, shadowing his face from the paramedic that was trying to help him. "Roxy...Don't...be scared." Kay was trying to sound reassuring, but...he was kind of failing...but he was trying so hard. "I'll be back as soon as I can." Eventually his hands were bandaged and the paramedic left him alone. He watched his company leave, taking a moment to look up at Pilot, then back down at the ground. "You...mean a lot to me, Roxy. Smile, please?" Not that he could see her...he'd probably be able to hear it in her voice.
She was chewing on her lip, so badly that she tasted blood and it made her feel a bit ill. She wiped it onto her sleeve trying to get it to stop. Swallowing she listened to him and she nodded her head trying her best to believe him. She had to...if he ... Roxy shook her head not wanting to think on it. "O..kay Kay..." she giggeled a bit...slightly side tracked as she always thought it cute saying that work with Kay's name beside it. "Pl..lease come over soon...?"
"As soon as I can." He promised, feeling the darkness pull away, almost completely gone. Almost there. A tiny smile flit onto his lips at her giggle, but it wasn't what he was looking for. "You're not smiling." He chided, slowly coming back to himself.
Roxy gave a bit of a snort as if trying to brush aside the fact she felt ill, "I'll smile when I see you.." She stated in a rather haughty tone, though there was a small pull in her lips...she really did like Kay. She was really worried about him
"I'll hold you to that." Kay said darkly; but it wasn't the rasp it was before, it was more like him, pretending to make a threat. "I've...got to go now. I'll see you as soon as I can." There was another slight pause of course, as the last tendrils of his inner darkness twisted and whisped away. "Thank you, Roxy." He said sincerely, getting to his feet and hanging up the phone. Poor Pilot was still there, after all...that poor boy.
Roxy nodded her head and when the phone went quiet she sat leaning against the wall before finally dragging herself to standing and putting the phone back on the hook. He would be here...she knew it. She just...had to busy herself until then.
"Lo..looks like another game is on Mrrh.." The paramedics had cleaned him up and the bodies were being taken to the Hospital or the Funeral Home...nobody was paying attention to the two young men who had called in the scene. The Store clerk had taken over their story, and after a while Kay stood up. He wasn't back to one hundred percent, but he certainly looked a lot better.
Well...since they weren't being paid attention to anymore...
Kay reached out, grabbing Pilot's arms with his bandaged hands, pulling the younger male against him in a tight hug, hoping to make him feel a little better. Of course, the hug also let Kay turn Pilot's back to what was left of the scene, so he didn't have to look at it and remember.
"Gonna hang in there, Buddy?"

After he had handed the phone over to Kay Pilot backed away just far enough to be able to deliberately not hear the conversation whilst still being close to Kay, he was after all the only familiar person here. When a paramedic came to check them both over he only briefly examined Pilot and after finding no injuries moved onto Kay. After that the paramedics and police that had arrived after them ignored the two boys, concentrating on the victims of the horrible crash. But eventually everyone was tended two and still no one paid any mind to the two of them. This puzzled him slightly, and that was good if he was thinking about this then he wasn’t thinking about what had happened. Why would these reasonable adults leave two kids who’d just been witnesses to a horrific accident without at least checking they had guardians on the way? It was just wrong.
During Kay’s phone call, whilst not trying to drown out the situation with other thoughts, he shot him worried glances. He’d only met Kay one time before and he’d been smaller then, they both had, but he was pretty sure what had happened before with the eyes and the voice wasn’t normal for Kay and didn’t mean anything good. He was quite relived when whoever was on the other end seemed to calm him down, it was only thanks to the Kay, the sounds of other living people (the paramedics and police) and sinking himself into his thoughts that he’d managed to avoid huddling up again. Just thinking about that made his eyes drift towards where the little girl had been but her body had already been moved, that didn’t stop him from seeing her in his mind though.
Feeling tears begin to prickle up behind his eyes again and his delicate control begin to crack he gave a small startled gasp when Kay pulled him into a hug, not having expected it before hugging back tightly, thankful for the further distraction for what was behind him. “Y- Yeah, I’m trying. You?” he said in reply to Kay question.

It was probably because Kay was on the phone. After all, the older of the two boys being on a payphone? He must have been calling their Guardians. Thus, no real worry was expressed over the pair.
Kay was mildly relieved when Pilot returned the hug, rubbing the poor boy's back in a comforting manner. Switch used to do that to him when he was upset, and he hoped it worked with everyone else, too. "I'm okay." It was mostly a lie; he was exhausted and he'd been so close to losing it...but all and all? He was okay. A lot better than he was before the phone call. "C'mon, lets get out of here, yeah? Want some ice cream or sommat?" The young man asked, releasing Pilot but urging him to walk forward instead of looking back at the scene. Pilot had to get away. They both did. He didn't want to have to make a second call to poor Roxy...
"My treat?"

Pilot gave a small smile when he felt Kay rubbing his back, it was like what his Mom had done after the panic attack he’d had and the familiarity was comforting. At the offer food Pilot offered a nod in reply, he wasn’t at all hungry but it’d get them away from this awful place. When they started walking he didn’t look back, he didn’t think he could now that they were getting away from there.
“That’d be nice, thanks Kay.” He finally said in reply. As they walked he contemplated how he was going to get home afterwards, he only really knew the one way and that went by that street; but there had to be another way. As he thought about that it occurred to him that he didn’t really feel like he was ready to go home after that, he still needed time to just absorb what had happened before he could face those waiting at home and answer they’re questions. They’d know something was wrong, even sick Mom could read him like a book.

"Notta problem. What kinda ice cream d'you want?" He asked conversationally once the Sweets Shop came into view. Naturally he guided Pilot there, holding the door open for the younger male and waiting for him to go inside. It was a rough day and he just wanted to go back to the shop, back to Roxy as promised...but Pilot probably needed to stay out for a little longer. Poor Pilot.
The young man waited at the counter, giving in his order then motioning for Pilot to make a choice. Once the other Curio chose, the Shaman would shoo him away to find a seat...he had done an awful lot of standing, it couldn't have been too much fun for much longer!
Eventually the order was up and Kay carried the items to the table that Pilot picked out, handing the boy whatever it was that he had ordered, and leaning back in his own chair, poking at his sundae with his spoon.
"Where do you live, by the way?" He had to take a back way home because of this, perhaps Pilot needed a new way home, too?

“Not sure, I’ll see what they have.” Pilot said in reply letting Kay lead, he was quite happy to just follow instructions at this point. Flicking his eyes over the selection he choose one and injected with what he wanted at the correct point. Gratefully taking Kay’s instructions to sit down he sunk into the seat, hands sitting on the tabletop as he fiddled with the napkin holder. When Kay brought his Mint Choc Chip ice cream back he took it and slowly licked it, happy to just sit there for the moment.
“7 Vesuvius Circuit.” Pilot said in reply to the question, his curiosity as to why exactly he was being asked this plain in his voice.

Vesuvius Circuit. He knew where that was! Huh, the fastest way there was to backtrack to the street the accident had been on...and he couldn't have that. Pilot was starting to look fairly normal! Granted, this was only the second time he'd ever seen the boy, and the first time he'd seen him as a toddler...but still, the way he acted at the crash scene was not how he remembered.
"Ah." Puffing out his cheeks, he pondered the map in his head; he'd done enough wandering to know his way around. In the mean time, he ate away at his caramel sundae, barely tasting it despite mostly taking his time. There was still an awful lot of stress in the air, he didn't think that would go away for a while yet. "I Think I can gettcha home without takin...that way, if ya want." Kay offered, finding a route that could POSSIBLY work.

Pilot was feeling a bit more normal in the vague ‘I’m starting to suppress what just happened for my sanity’s sake.’ And that would have to do for now, it would be more worrying if he was 100% all right after what he just witnessed.
Pilot quickly finished off his ice-cream, biting into it instead of his usual slow devouring. When Kay mentioned the street he blanched slightly, “If you can do that, that’ll be great. Thanks Kay.” He said softly.
