Character Name: Kita
Age: 20
Sexual Orientation: His work. No, seriously.
Craft/Rank: Tailor/Journeyman
History: Kita was born and raised in the Weyr. His father was some unknown rider, some of the other weyrbrats had said he rode a Blue, but how were they to know that? His mother however, had been a Weaver. As such, Kita was raised right under her looms. Whether she intended it or not, being so closeby and watching his mother work as he grew up, Kita grew a deep fascination for the WeaverCraft. Those few times he'd asked her to show him how to weave turned disastrous, but he didn't let it deter him. He knew there were other things to do with cloth than just make it.
Growing up in the Weyr, he's had quite the fill of sightings of dragons. While he loves watching them, he knows they just aren't for him. Knew it from when he was six turns, and he'd first stitched a small, if very messy, seam in a patch under his mother's watchful eye. No, WeaverCraft was for him. Riding looked fun but it wasn't making things, or fixing things! He kept his little opinion to himself, though to his mother it was quite obvious where his interests lie, so it came as no surprise to her then when Kita was half-past eight turns old, he'd asked if he could go to Southern Boll to learn the WeaverCraft.
Naturally she accepted this choice, she was proud that he wanted to follow in her Craft. Even if the actual Weaving subcraft wasn't for her boy, he'd still be dealing in the cloth and that was more than fine with her. She gladly journeyed with him to the Crafthall to watch for herself as he was accepted into classes. Coming from a Weaver mother gave him some help, but not much.
His lessons were hard. he still could not master the looms no matter how he tried, and his instructors tried to instill the craft into him. It was sewing where his talents began to be grown. With sewing, he began to build a deep love for the Tailor craft, as he began to learn that no only could he fix, and hem things, but create completely new pieces of clothing from nothing but blank strips of cloth. Once his path was set, his training under a new instructor began. Cutting and sewing the cloth into patterns wasn't difficult, but when it came to creating his own patterns to cut the cloth into, and sew it together without a premade pattern to follow proved to be an extremely difficult task. His teacher, thankfully, was very patient with him, and gave him many methods to try and find inspiration for a pattern in his head, in the color of the cloth, the threads, the table itself. He found the man's advice very helpful and in a few turns got the hang of it.
He walked the tables just shy of his 18th birthing day, and his first decision was to head back home to the Weyr and walk nearby his mother. It had been too long since he saw his mother, the Weyr, and the dragons. Maybe the dragons and their riders would even give him some inspiration for some clothing patterns he could try.
Description: Kita isn't much to look at compared to the next guy down the hallway from you, sitting across the table, or talking to your friend there. He is of slight build, with nimble fingers, a good asset for his sewing. His only real discerning feature is hair that's a bit lighter than the norm. From what he's been told, his father had hair just as dark brown as his mother's, if not darker, but his own is a light sandy brown. Nearly bordering on blonde in the right sunlight. He doesn't have much of a tan, usually indoors working on cloth and patterns, there is too much to do to go out and soak up sunlight and get himself darker. His eyes are a dark green, nothing really outstanding other than the fact that they always seem to be smiling. He never seems to have a frown on his face, even when engrossed in his work.
Personality: Kita is a listener. He might not be one for actively keeping up on the Weyr gossip, but he usually knows at least half of the stories floating around. He'll be glad to offer an ear if someone needs to speak with him about any topic, he isn't going to pass it on. Who would he tell besides, the fabrics in his shop? He is pretty soft spoken and likes it that way, not many really bother him and he sees a bright side to most events that are out there. If there's a storm coming, it'll blow over soon enough. Threadfall coming? Well, that's what the Weyr is there for, and the dragons. And they are amazing to watch in the air, aren't they?
On the other end, if someone does happen to worm their way under his skin, Kita is not easy to forgive and forget. it takes a lot to get on his bad side and he won't just let such a thing blow over easily. Now, if you ordered something from him he won't let his grudge make him produce any shoddy work, because that is his pride he's showing, but once the cloth is finished being worked you are not safe from his anger anymore. Physically, he can do nothing, but he can casually slip across word that something not very pleasant occurred to a listening ear. He can seethe over an issue of "personal wronging" for weeks, and his work will reflect such a thing. A tunic he'd originally planned to have open belled sleeves, now might have sharp angles, narrow sleeves that slit up the sides and angular seaming in thick threads. It might not be the best way to vent, but darnit he's going to do it.
He gets all of his enjoyment from life in his work. He's never really found the time, or had the interest either, to look for anything else to occupy himself with other than finding inspiration for new clothing patterns and tailoring once he found his niche. His mother had hoped he might take a break and look for a girl, or a boy if he ended up having tastes that direction, and not letting his Craft consume him completely. Sadly, that hasn't happened yet. People are nice, conversation is nice, but it isn't making clothing and new patterns. He sees no reasons to settle down with anyone, he's perfectly capable of taking care of himself. And settling down would mean making ROOM for someone else, and possibly their craft. His cloth piles, threads, and everything take up all the space he has as it is. he couldn't downsize just to make some.. person who might not even see the importance of his organization fit!
And on his organization... He knows where every color of thread and cloth is located, even if it may look buried under a pile to you. Brown? Sure, that's under the green, and two on top of the deep red that came from Northern. He ordered that bolt for a vest, it's a lovely color isn't it? Oh, yes. Right, the brown. He can get a little carried away with talking about cloths and the Weavers they came from, and the patterns that each bolt of cloth in particular is planned to be used for. It is best to keep him on the right track with bringing up your order as soon as possible when he starts drifting.
Other: Kita finds the little fire lizards as amusing creatures, and some days may have a small basket of dried meats set out near his doorway to offer any passing flits. If their owner permits, of course. They're every bit as fascinating to watch as the larger dragons, only far more entertaining.
