History: Jessalie is a born and bred Weyrbrat. She never had much to do with her parents, but was incredibly close to her foster mother. Jessalie’s foster mother was strict but kind, instilling in Jessalie a deep drive to succeed and provide for herself and weyr. Her foster mother, a very open and passionate homosexual, also preached to Jessalie from a young age the merits and virtues of tolerant High Reaches, while simultaneously putting down Telgar and damning it for it’s less open views. Over time Jessalie’s developed quite a few opinions and ideas that aren’t necessarily her own, simply due to constant exposure.
Jessalie aspired to be a healer for a long time to be a healer, and wanted to leave the Weyr to join the hall and learn, but instead found satisfaction working with the healers in the medical ward of the Weyr, and now spends much of her time there, helping out with scrapes, bangs, and playing the part of audience in anything more major so that she might learn.
Because of her tomboyish appearance and lack of feminine demeanor, Jessalie has often been mistakenly been identified as male or homosexual, and thus has had a harder time finding romantic interests. While not overly upset about it, Jessalie is unknowledgeable in the fields of romance, and while not awkward or shy, she’s a bit wary of treading on unfamiliar ground.
Appearance: Jessalie’s constant working is very evident in her physical appearance. Incredibly muscular, Jessalie looks like she could fight a bear and win. She has steely gray eyes, long eyelashes, and strong features. Jessalie in no way looks delicate or frail. She’s got a sort of goofy, half grin, wide shoulders, moderately curvy hips and small breasts that become practically nonexistent once Jessalie binds her chest.
Her hair is short cropped and flat black, and always seems to be in a state of disarray, almost floating about her head in a scruffy sort of dark halo. Both her ears are pierced in multiple places, but other than earrings and the occasional necklace or bracelet, Jessalie does very little dressing up, and dresses for efficiency before style.
Personality: One of Jessalie’s most defining characteristics, that defines a lot of her other personality traits, is how hard she works. It doesn’t matter what it is, Jessalie always seems to be doing something. She’s up before the sun rises, still up when it goes down, and all the time in between, she’s working. Cleaning, cooking, mending and helping, Jessalie practically lives to work. She’ll even tell you she enjoys it. In work there is no halfway with Jessalie. She tries her hardest and works her a** off, no questions asked.
Don’t let the workaholic thing throw you off though, Jessalie is by no means anti-social or any sort of silent type. Incredibly outgoing and fairly friendly, if Jessalie doesn’t know you, she’ll make sure that’s remedied shortly. She’s the kind of person who’d walk over and invite a complete stranger out to lunch, for no other reason than to offer someone a friendly gesture and meet someone new. Drop your stuff? She’ll help you pick it up and get back on your feet. Jessalie is a master of the nice little things in day to day situations.
Where does Jessalie’s motivation, her drive come from? It’s largely self instilled. Other people dream of power, of fame, of money…Jessalie is not quite so consumed with worldly or material things. Jessalie’s goal in life is to be the best person she possibly can. She aspires to improve herself, to work harder, be kinder, and to forgo all of her regrets. She works hard because she wants to. She’s nice because she wants to be. Jessalie wants to be a good person because…it’s the right thing to do.
Incredibly self reliant, Jessalie works well both by herself and in groups. However, she doesn’t always trust other people’s work ethics, and has a tendency to outright overwork herself as she tries to do her job, and then someone else’s, and someone else’s, and…well, you get the picture. As such, she works best in small groups, with people she knows and can rely on to do their jobs themselves, so she won’t feel required to do their share as well.
Part of Jessalie’s ‘I’m going to be a good person’ thing is being trustworthy and loyal. You might as well tell your secrets to a wall, spoon, or some other inanimate object; in a good way, meaning Jessalie would die before she’s spill on you, or reveal information intended to be private. She doesn’t see lying as evil, sometimes it’s a situation where it’s the lesser of two evils, but spilling secrets that aren’t yours is a terrible offense, and you can bet she’ll be hard pressed to forgive you for any sort of betrayal. Loyalty is possibly the greatest virtue in Jessalie’s opinion, and if you don’t have loyalty, you don’t have anything, and are not worth her time.
What’s the catch? What’s the downside to Jessalie’s friendly, outgoing demeanor? Well, she aspires to be a good person, and works hard to make it happen, because deep down, she can be a royal, super-ultra-b***h. This is most evident in her temper and her anger. Some people get angry and lose control. This is not Jessalie’s problem. If you put her down and cuss her out, that’s fine; Jessalie is sure you won’t mind finding wherry guts under your pillow. Jessalie is unbelievably vengeful, and that whole ‘forgive and forget’ thing doesn’t fly well with her. As far as she’s concerned, you have to earn your damn forgiveness; she’s not going to relinquish her anger easily.

She hates to see power or authority abused, and believes it, like respect, should be earned. To be concise, while Jessalie doesn’t have a grudge against authority, she believes you should have to work for and deserve whatever rank you have.
Tieing into this, Jessalie absolutely hates Telgar with a passion. She hates Telgar both for its rivalry with High Reaches, her home weyr, and what she considers their foolish biases. She thinks Telgar ignorant, sexist, homophobic and completely idiotic. All hail High Reaches; Jessalie would do anything to glorify her Weyr in comparison to Telgar.
