Hi! I've read Wicked and Son of a Witch, which I thought were both fantastic novels.

I thought they were very realistic, actually, once you got past the whole "Oz" thing. The characters seemed very believable. The books was well-written, I think, using just enough detail to give you a good picture but not overdoing it. It was certainly an original idea. ^^

I'm also going to see the musical, and I've got the CD. Any thoughts on it?

I got about halfway through it before I had to give it to my friend as a gift. stare Sad am I. But I really liked the way it humanized the witch and made you feel compassion for her. How would you feel if you were the only green kid in school, and it wasn't a chemical imbalance that would go away after a few days? When I repurchase the book for myself, along with several of Gregory's other books, I think I won't leave the fireplace for two days! It's a new twist on old fairy tales we've all grown bored with.

Do you rate books for a living? That was an incredibly inspiring report. If I hadn't read it, I'd go out and get the book now!

Teehee. No, just an English major. One who is currently critiquing four stories every class, besides whenever my friends shove their stories at me, and scream, "FIX IT!"

I loved Wicked. Thought it had a bit of a dry spell in the middle though.

Wicked is wonderful, I've enjoyed all of Gregory Maguire's books. He certainly knows how to put a unique spin on fairy tales. Wicked was probably my favorite, with Confession of an Ugly Stepsister close behind.

Though I have yet to read the sequel, Son of a Witch. It's actually the only book by him I haven't read. ^^;;

I really want to see the musical, I was going to when it came to Washington D.C., but tickets were sold out too quickly and I was unable to get one. D;

I've heard about the musical, but I didn't know about the book until very recently. It sounds like it's quite clever so I really want read it and see the musical.

...I shall rate my opinion on how scream-able they were...(I like making up words)...

Book: ...AAAAAAAAAAH!! <33
Musical/CD: EEEEEEP!! <3

...I still haven't read Son of a Witch...I have a ton of other books to read right now...but I'll get to it eventually....

I loved just the whole feeling of the book, there was really no boring parts for me, Elphaba was a very understandable character that I could really connect with. I especially appreciated how it wasn't just another happy obnoxiously bright book, and it made you think.

Personally, I didn't like it that much. Too depressing, and it dragged ALOT.

But, Son of a Witch was soooo incredibly good. I loved that book.

By the way, the play was great!! I like memorized the soundtrack, i loved it so much.

I win in this forum!

xd (You gotta give me something, right?)

Well... I heard about Wicked, so I bought the soundtrack. Memerized the soundtrack, so I read the first book. Finally got to see the musical (IN BROADWAY, NY!!!), then read the second book.

It was all on happy pillow of wickedness.

Sorry, not so good at reviewing it all, except- It was hard to concentrate on the second book after the musical. I kept wanting to compose the sequel. The musical and the books are very different, but they share the same key notes.

Hope that helped!

I really enjoyed both Wicked and Son of a Witch, though Wicked was better. I liked how it incorperated real-life issues (ie. humans v. Animals v. animals was representative of the Holocaust). Both were very well written and I liked the characters a lot.

I haven't read the book, but have listened to the musical soundtrack. It didn't impress me through the first run, but grew on me the second time (I personally found the music very unremarkable and forgettable, not to mention, some of the voices were rather annoying). The story's rather depressing! To have such an ambitious, intelligent character like that in a story, KNOWING how she's going to end up kind of dampens the potential high I would have gotten from it. I'm still looking forward to reading it though.

And... is it just me, or is there some odd kind of tension between Elphaba and Glenda(?). The musical seems to stress the whole "we're best friends/soulmates/possibly-something-more" subtext that I had to laugh at.
