Well, kata is my absolute favorite part of martial arts. So I'm gonna play Marty here, and start a thread dedicated to kata. For I dunno. Talk about your favorite katas, least favorite katas, one's you're working on, one's you're having trouble with. I dunno. blaugh

Right now I'm working on Zienchin or Sienchin. How ever you spell that. I've gotten pretty much the whole pattern down. But for some reason, this one's taking me forever to learn. gonk
I'm also working on perfecting Bassi-dai. And then Heian Godon for Nationals this Saterday. (Because they won't let me to Bassi-dai for it.)

They could take a year off, come back and still remember it. xd Pop quiz Pengy! Do you know where the throw is in the first move? question

Marty Nozz "Playing Marty"? redface Bassai-dai is the one kata no black belt from my school ever forgets. They could take a year off, come back and still remember it. xd Pop quiz Pengy! Do you know where the throw is in the first move? question Uh...Well, it's the very first move. You're grabbing someone and throwing them, then you turn into the middle block. EDIT:: I didn't describe that good enough. You announce the kata with your right hand wraped around your left fist, when you pull your hands back to your left side (the "wind up") is where you grab the person, and where you move forward is when you throw them, then you turn into the middle block.

Some of my students know their katas like the back of their hands, but ask the name of the form... sweatdrop

The form I'm learning right now is the 4th hand set of Northern Shaolin, Chum Sam. It's only the second form in my repetoire, so I still have a long way to go!

Much prefer my last one choong-moo, lots of exciting interesting moves smile I'm not part of any dojo's but i have little knowledge about them. The reason for the slow movements is so that your mind reconizes the pattern then you can master it.when you do master it, you can do it as if you were lightining itself.the reason for this is because the slow movements are actully tech. I know this because my one Neighbor is learning Kung-fu and i see her practice it.

We're expected to perform any of the moves from any of the patterns in fast or slow motion to show our control... doesn't stop me grumbling about it tho smile
