I tried something like this on the Official Morrowind Guild, but when I lost my data because the comp died I got disheartened and didn't re-pursue it; and now since I've been playing Oblivion so often now I just can't go back to the crappier graphics of Morrowind, so here we go...

This is a stage-by-stage blog/report/thing on the progress of my new character, Calidus Odo the Imperial Knight-Errant and his adventures throughout the Provence of Cyrodiil, the Deadlands (better known as the Planes of Oblivion you visit through the oblivion gates), and the Shivering Isles, should I get up to that. I'm also doing a Bachelor of engineering degree at uni at the moment, so reports will probably be few and far between until the holidays at least.

First off, The mods I'm using. I'm going back to basics for this; Mainly because I'm using a pre-made character class, but mostly because I'm sick of OOO ruining my casual experience.
The mods I'm using are:
Oblivion master (obviously)
KotN
Spell Tomes (thought it would make sense to still have mages and the like still carry tomes of knowledge on them, even if my character may not use them)
Horse Armor
Kvatch Rebuilt (I'd probably have added this later but you end up having to wait between stages; it's better if you just do the Kvatch stuff in the beginning and then let it flourish as you do the other stuff you want to do)
The Hermaeus Mora Quest fix

Secondly, My character:

Name: Calidus Odo
Race: Imperial (Colovian (just for fluff reference))
Birthsign: Warrior
Class: Knight

..Yeah, that's it for character creation.

Ok, so I played all the way through the prison and the tutorial/start of the main quest (I think that's what it was - some old bloke (I think it was Patrick Stewart) in fancy duds handed me some trinket that I gotta take to this guy, then some other dude burst out of the wall and kidney-shotted the old bloke; I wasn't paying much attention at the time), got all my gear, and headed out into the big, wide world of the provence of Cyrodill. Not much to report at this stage - sold all my junk I picked up in the prison passages for a pretty penny, got some decent armor (pretty much upgraded from rusted iron to proper iron) and when I was ready, went over to Vilverin to go kill dome bandits (cause, you know, I'm a poor sucka and those bandits just love a good killin' biggrin ).

Well, I got to the first big room in the first cell, and managed to get the ringleader and 2 more of them ganging up on me. I was outmatched, but (only barely) not outclassed. I dispatched the ringleader and one of them with the help of some not-yet activated traps, but the last one refused to die and I ended up breaking my iron longsword on him and using all my restore health potions in the fight, so now I have no more for later. SO instaed of trying to do the rest of the dungeon, I took what I could and hotfooted it back to the IC market district.
It was evening, so I took a room at the Merchant's Inn, had a bite to eat in my rented room, and slept the night away and leveled up.

After that I simply got up and sold the rest of my stuff I pilfered from the bandits, and heard about trouble in the market district involving a new merchant in town called Thoronir; apparently he's undercutting all the other merchants in the district and stealing away their business, and they want someone to find out where he gets his inventory (apparently he sells for so cheaply that they believe he's making crooked deals to get his inventory).

So that's it for now intrepid adventurers! I'll see you all for the next installment!

Hello again intrepid adventurers! Just a small play-update, and a long roleplay update.

First, what Calidus got up to today - So, fresh from his brush from death in Vilverin, he went and sold his loot in the imperial city, and began to move on. He wandered the countryside of Lake Rumare for a bit before stumbling on Fanacasecul, raiding it (and getting a bit of loot out of it as well, though there was one annoying ghost that I decided to leave because I couldn't kill it yet), and hopping back to IC before the shops shut to get some more money for my recovered merchandise.

Thinking then that He needs more coin, and hearing that the fighters' guild offers work to those of an inclination to wield a sword, decided to head over to Chorrol to go join up. However, as fate should have it, Fort Ash (along with some Khajiit punk trying to hold me up for some moneys) was in the way, and both (along with the goblins hiding within the fort) were summarily delt with, lot was stashed in bags, money was made once I got to Chorrol, and fun was had by all!...well, except those that died, but most of them are going to respawn in 3 days, probably stronger than ever anyway, so no sleep to be lost methinks. Also, I think I leveled up to level 3 somewhere there, and managed to pick up a steel shield from the boss in Fort Ash and a fine steel longsword and silver shortsword from the Chorrol fighters' Guild.

Now to the roleplaying side of the entry I mentioned before. Some of you are probably perplexed by my intentional choice of pre-determined class. "Why would you do that Gref? Why pic a crappy class when you could make your own class of awesome?" The simple answer my friend, is for the hell of it. I've already gone the road of powerleveling a dude of awesome to level infinity and beyond, and now I wanna enjoy the game for those parts I haven't experienced yet; and believe you me, there's a lot of game that I haven't explored even now, a couple of years and 1 1/2 expansions down the track. I wanted to roleplay a civilized Imperial warrior, like the kind I'd picture for the Champion of Cyrodiil if there was a novelization, or movie of the game. I picture him as some sort of fighter, pure melee, no spells, no bows and arrows, nothing complicated, but then he is also intelligent, and knows when is the right time and the wrong time to do something. So I gave you my Imperial Knight-Errant Calidus Odo.

I suppose a bit of backstory is in order:

Long ago, Calidus Odo was an Imperial Guardsman, and a damn good one too, caught his fair number of pickpockets and scoundrels lurking in the Imperial City; Even managed to silence a small den of vampires hiding in the sewers underneath the city at one point, but that's another story for another time. He served under the watch captain Audens Avidius, who wasn't as good as his post led poeple to believe, and (though he managed to keep most people shut up about it) was a rather corrupt guardsman, framing people for false fines and pocketing the money himself. Calidus tried to stand up for these people, having pity for them, but none would have the courage to join Cal and put Audens behind bars, and when he found out, he framed our hero for a murder he didn't commit, and had Cal thrown in the Imperial Prison to rot. Little did he know that Cal would ahve a larger role to play in Tamriel, and that Audens himself was simply a cog turning the wheel of fate...

So, that about wraps it up for this entry. Oh, mods, I ended up adding the OOO default leveling curve, because I misjudged oblivions and thought I would be leveling slower. Turns out Iw as dead wrong; I don't even get to enjoy half the things I should at the lower levels.

So, THAT wraps it up; If you have comments on what you think might improve the blog, if anything (though I hate to use that word for this) then feel free to drop them in. See you next time intrepid adventurers!

Hello again intrepid adventurers! ready for another riveting installment of the adventurers of Calidus Odo? well, ready or not here we go!

...yeah, I am sorry to say it's not terribly interesting at the moment, just me looting dungeons and building up some monetary strength as well as a skill base so I can teh PWN stuff later on. rather than go through the list of s**t I've done since the last update, I'll just list the dungeons (hopefully in the order I raided them in) and you can go have a sticky-beak on UESP, kk?

there was crumbling mine, Hrotanda Vale, Dzonot Cave, vilverin (yeah, I went back and cleared it, didn't feel right just leaving it not cleared even though they just respawn in three days), fort empire, fort chalman, Charcoal cave, Anutwyll, fort irony, bawn and rickety mine.

a few things of significance did happen though now that i think about it more clearly though. First off, I started the main quest (though I actually did it in the order you aren't supposed to that that's a debatable point; went to Kvatch and closed the gate, then went to hand the amulet in and the guy told me to go back to Kvatch and get the priest! GRRRRRrrrrr...

blew up another oblivion gate as well (near the inn of ill omen, here on the map), which had another funny occurrence.

It was a bit of a different world, and I had to try to figure out how to get to the top of the keep. there were 4 gates blocking my route into the center, where the tower stood, with small towers flanking it's sides. I got into each of the smaller towers and opened the gates, then walked around for longer than I should've around the outside of the building looking for the entrance to the keep. Then it hit me - there was none. Instead you had to open the gates from the towers (which to get to one was no picnic (good thing I forgot my basket razz )), then you walked through the gates to get to one of the other two towers who's top pieces connected with the keep so that you could ascend the tower from there. Very tricky I thought...

anyway, closed that without too much problem and went on my merry way.

probably should start on the rest of the fighter's guild assignments, but I really wanna save up money for the house in Skingrad. It's like, 25,000 or something like that in vanilla oblivion right? {Eh, I'll go look it up later.}

Also, I sort of regret not taking a class that has restoration and some extra magic reserves to begin with, Heal minor wounds works, but by Akatosh it's a pain in the a** sometimes, and my restoration is only just at 25 now, but only 80 magicka, so can't cast even heal lesser wounds without losing most of my magicka. Oh, and training illusion sucks, just for reference. Otherwise the combat is still fun (if a bit annoying when I'm getting beat on by clannfears).

Found a sexy reflect damage ring too. biggrin

So that's it as far as I can remember intrepid adventurers. Until next time; Slay a daedroth for me, you'll thank me later. ;P

Wow~ I really like this. x3 I haven't played Oblivion in a long time though, so I probably won't be doing the same thing.

Good luck with your story/blog though.

Sorry about the lack of updates (presuming of course anybody still wanders in here to have a looksee...) but uni work sort of dud a ninja and I haven't been able to go too much farther in Oblivion as of late. Though when I find some more time I'll see how muhc farther I can get.

Fear not, Calidus is not dead! He's just got a flesh wound or two. razz He'll be back...

A rather minor flesh wound if he's still not back after days and days of resting up...

Hope to see some posting soon, but you make sure you get your schoolwork done first young man! xd

Hmmm, it seems the flesh wound got infected...

so, kk, I had a keylogger, and wasn't sure how to get rid of it other than an exterminatus-like format of the hard drive, so naturally, my oblivion file has gone the way of the dodo (along with lots of other stuff... :,(

with that in mind, who votes I start a new character and do this again?

and to be even more involving of you guys, what sort of skillset should he have if restarting this is a favourable decision?

Discuss.

I think you should do a good rogue with a slight tendency for murder(which he denies). Or maybe a mage that has a tendency towards necromancy.

maybe a sneaky mage who tends to kill citizins a little and leans towards necromancy?
