A sandbox.
Of all of the places his new 'mother' could have stuck him while she chatted with other parents around the park, it had to be the sandbox. Not that the sandbox itself was too terrible, really - he had the urge to try and see if he could set some sand on fire, actually - but it meant he would need a bath later to get the grit off of him! A bath! And he hated water!
Not to mention the fact that to properly play in a sandbox, you needed water. . . which was sitting beside him in a bucket, lapping at the edges and threatening him with its cool, wet, suffocation . . . He had to get OUT of here! Looking around wildly, he spotted an older girl with silver hair walking through the park, and he called out to her.
"HEY! COME HERE! COME HERE!" Was he being rude? Sure. Did he care? Nope. Was he acting like his physical age rather than his mental one? Yeah. So what? The water was out to GET him and he needed help!

Gertie had seen it fit that today Sophie could play in the park today. Even if the child would have much rather been tending to the garden and snooping around the castle. She knew it was a distraction from Adrian, of that she was sure, but he didn't know just how persistent she could be.
Sophie adjusted the knot on her shawl and looked around, frowning when she heard someone yelling. For a moment, she thought she was looking at Morgan until his hair caught on fire and realized that it wasn't him at all. "How bright!" She walked over to him and bent on her knees next to the sandbox. "I've never seen hair like yours before. Oh, whats wrong? You look worried."

"Get the water away!" Axel yelped, scooting backwards and lgrabbing the plastic shovel, flames flickering along its surface as he jabbed it at the menacing bucket. "Water's wet an' I don't like getting wet! Get it away!" The fact that he was being bossy and demanding never even crossed the former adult's mind as he wielded his flaming shovel of justice against his wet tormentor, all the while darting glances at the older girl for help.

"Oh, calm down! It's only water." Sophie hurriedly grabbed the bucket and whirled to sit dump it out behind her before flipping it upside to use as a seat. Now that she had leverage, the nosy witch leaned in, and watched the flames eagerly. He acts just like Calcifer, she thought. The line brought out a blurted response of, "Are you a fire demon?"

"A fire demon?" Axel echoed, then made a face as he stabbed the burning shovel into the ground, increasing the power of the flame and watching the sand get hotter. "What's that? I'm not one, but what do you mean?"

Sophie watched on curiously, her nose getting closer to where it didn't belong. "You can use fire. Your either a fire demon or a wizard, I'm sure of it. I just can't pick which one." Oh yes. She knew of these things because she used to live with an example of each.

"No," Axel said, wrinkling his nose and stabbing the flaming shovel in the sand again. "I'm not either of those! I'm a NOBODY," he declared, not exactly liking that fact but assuming that others knew what that meant. "Watch out for Heartless, 'kay?"

Sophie frowned. "Your not a nobody. Your a somebody or you wouldn't be here, right?" What kind of issues did this kid have? He seemed alright so far as she could tell, besides having a bit of a temper. When he spoke, she couldn't help, but laugh. "Too late for that. I'm married to one."

Axel frown and twisted the flaming shovel around in a circle. "You can't marry a heartless," he said. "They steal people's hearts, after all - an' they kind of.... eat them, too, I never did understand that." Scowling at Sophie, he rose to his feet and twirled the shovel in a circle. Still alight with fire, it looked a lot more threatening than a plastic shovel ought to.
"And I am a Nobody, my somebody lost his heart and made me, got it memorized?"

"Oh yes you can!" Sophie huffed and dug her hands into the sand. If she didn't busy herself with something, she might just grab the boy's ear and give it a tug. "Well, he's not really heartless, but for a long time I thought he ate hearts."
She manuvered around to where she was sitting on the side of the sandbox. Smoothyly her fingers crafted a little sand castle. "No, I don't have it memorized. " Honestly, she was confused, but curious at the same time. "Stay still and form up, alright? Real walls don't fall over."
True to their word, the sand walls stood straight without any water to hold them.

Attention caught by the sandcastle that was made without water, Axel let the flames die off of the plastic shovel he held and stared at Sophie with wide eyes. "How'd you do that?!? Show me, show me! Do it again!"

"Do what? Build a wall?" She blinked and looked down before catching onto his surprise. Honestly, she was so used to her magic being a common place thing that it confused her.
Sophie sat back with a frown. "I can show it to you, but it's not as great as you think it is." She moved down a little further to get a good scoop of sand for a tower. "Be good, alright? Show him how impressive and regal you can be." That and various other compliments were paid to the sand, sometimes even a little nag when it didn't work right until she had a final, if not simple, sand castle built.

Axel's eyes widened further as he watched the castle get built, all because it was doing what the silver-haired girl told it to do. "Is your power being bossy?" he asked, though he really didn't mean it badly, not like he might when he was older. At this moment he was all curious infant and nothing more.

Sophie sputtered and waggled a finger. "It's not bossy if your being assertive." Then her chocolate eyes softened and she smiled, laughter seeping out a little. Oddly enough, even if he didn't mean it in the same context, being called bossy was a welcomed comfort. "I wouldn't call it a power, just a little....gift. I talk life into things."

"Life?" Axel echoed, wrinkling his nose. "So. . . you're a bossy life witch?" he asked, trying to figure her out in the only context he could - comparing her to Namine, the memory witch from his old life. "I burn stuff," he said with a confident nod.
