Ashrialto was by blood and breeding, a bit of a wanderer.. Therefore it was no real surprise -to him, his family, or his friends- when he chose to wander yet again. With a simple farewell until later to the herd that had formed -quite by accident, mind you- around the Shaman Tashika, the young stallion set off wherever his hooves should decide to take him.
Much of the area close to the teepee -that is, along the forest edge and much of the territory along the river- he was more then familiar with. Had been racing his friends and family through the forest and bolting through the fields since his first days out of his basket. There was little adventure to be found there, and perhaps he was in search of a bit of adventure, for he turned his nose deeper into the forest.
Perhaps not the wisest choice... The forest was home to many a dark creature, Kalona and Skinwalker, coyote, wolve, fox, bear, boar... There really was no telling what he might encounter by moving through the sun-dappled darkness. But then, that was precisely why he was doing what he was doing.
"Let's see what we'll find here." He mused to himself, grinning all the while, silver eyes shining.

Wandering was a way of life to Alaina. Her father had wandered too, though not initially by choice. She of course had a choice. She could have stayed behind with her loving family like her sister had. Instead, she let her hooves take her wherever they would. There was a serenity in wandering that she couldn't find while planted in one area. Her heart was whole when she was on the road. Whole and free...
She walked through the forest that day. It wasn't like the cheery bright forest she had come from. It seemed older, more full of uncertainty. She wasn't exactly one to go putting herself in unnecessary danger... but this was where her hooves had brought her and this is where she would walk.
She continued forward. The sound of her hooves seemed unnaturally loud. Why was that? An odd sort of silence hung about the area. She'd have to be careful around here, she could tell.

Ashrialto frowned to himself as he moved along through the forest, beginning to worry at the quiet. It was not like the forest to be this way, especially not this part.. He'd traveled this way before, and there was always a lot of soft noise and signs of life. The wind in the trees, the sound of wings and birdsong, insects darting about, rabbits and other small mammals darting here and there in the shadow and dappled sunlight.
Now? Now there was no happy singing, no chatter of squirrels, no passage of small feet or rustling as deer leapt away from perceived danger. There was.. nothing.
"Hello?" He ventured cautiously at a sudden rustle of plants deeper into the shadows. "Is there anyone there?"
A tangle of brambles grew to one side, cutting off escape into the trees with thorns and wily tangles. Ash considered the imposing wall of it, nerves skittering through him at the repeated thrashing in the brush, to his free side. Perhaps someone had gotten tangled up?
"Do you need help?" He tried again, taking half a step off the path and into the dark tangle of the trees.
The growl that met his words was not a comforting sound... Not in the slightest.

The sound of another soquili's voice pricked Alaina's ears to their full height. Someone else was out there! The voice was too distant to hear the first call, even in the strange silence. Alaina paused in her walking and strained to pinpoint where the voice might be coming from.
"-need help..." She faintly heard a voice off the path that she had been walking. Someone needed help?
Immediately she was alert and turning from the path to run towards the source of the sound. The silence in the forest meant that something certainly was amiss. There could be a panther in the area, or worse. She didn't know the land and for all she knew she could be in the heart of skinwalker territory. She didn't have time to think of that now, however. She shouted as she ran through the forest. "Where are you? I'm coming!"

'Well, how are you going to get yourself out of this mess, Ash?' His mind mockingly asked as he considered his surroundings and took a careful step back. This area was not one he was too familiar with, so the chance of outrunning or outmaneuvering anything that was comfortable in this place?
... Well, not good. Not good at all.
Then again, if it was someone hurt, he wanted to help. They just, didn't sound like they really wanted his help. Could be a Skinwalker or a Kalona, he wasn't sure normal Soquili growled. Or it could be an animal, and not a 'familiar' at that.
"Do you need help?" He tried again, ears flicking back and forth at the sound of a distant voice and hooves. "Where are you?"
Where was he? A fine time to not be sure. It sounded like a female, though at this distance he wasn't sure if it was anyone he recognized or not. "Be careful!"
The words came as the thrashing in the brush continued, prompting him to skirt sideways as he looked for an available escape route. Whatever it was, it sounded mean, and it sounded like it was getting closer. Great, just great.
