The gray stallion slowly stretched himself out as he awoke from his nap. It had been some time since the stallion had been kicked out of the herd, but life was better then it had been in a long time. Vengeance had Imbrium by his side and he wasn't off running errands for an Alpha who didn't appreciate the work he did. Vengeance was lost in his thoughts as he felt the mare come to stand by his side. After having been banished from the herd his outlook on life had been rather bleak, but now that he had found her, he wasn't going to let her go. Not that she wanted to leave. He knew Imbri was strong willed and the mare would have already tried to leave if she had wanted to. The stallion gave her a loving nudge and then began eating.

Imbrium had been napping beside Vengeance, and had immediately awoken as she felt him move. The black mare hadn't realized that she could be quite so happy with anyone, especially an undead stallion! Perhaps her mother had been right about her, perhaps she was some sort of freak. Well, it didn't matter now. The fact that Vengeance had spent years in Hell didn't really bother her. That was who he had been. He was different now and Imbri believed she could help heal his wounds and bring joy back to his life. Unfortunately for her, she didn't think that she had a whole lot of choice in the matter. Not that she wanted to leave, but she knew that if she tried to, Vengeance would follow her. The stallion was not about to let her go just yet. The black mare lovingly nuzzled the stallion back and began to eat beside him.

How long had it been since he ran out that worthless stallion? Well it was hard to tell, but it had been certainly been quite some time. Thanos had expected Vengeance to come crawling back begging to be let back in. In fact he had hoped that would happen just to see the other stallion act overly submissive. But several days, or was it weeks, later there was still no sign of Vengeance. Thanos once again set out to patrolling the border of his herds territory to look for any signs of the stallion, if he saw him - well he wasn't sure what he would do.
After he had time to cool off Thanos began to realize just how important Vengeance was to the herd, to him. He would never admit it in front of the others, but Vengeance was needed in this herd. Thanos needed him to be his other right hand man so to speak. Now that wasn't to say that Rowan wasn't doing his job, but as the herd grew in size he would need another one he trusted to help things run smoothly. Sure Vengeance clearly needed some lessons in how to fight, but that could be taught relatively easily.
"Where are we going?" Peace questioned the stallion. "We better be going to kill something. I tire of all this sitting around."
Thanos gave his mane a shake as he turned to follow the river that cut through the herds territory. Perhaps he would find Vengeance near water. "We are looking for something." He simply told the rats and he picked up the pace a bit.
He had traveled quite a ways down the river before he came upon the first signs that might be Vengeance. By now he was well out of his herds territory, not that wandered off was foreign to him. He knew that when he was gone the herd was looked after by Rowan. Eyes scanned the area as he cantered along the river.
Finally he spotted a familiar, or mostly familiar, grey form off in the distance. Ah there was Vengeance, just as he expected, the stallion hadn't gone far from the herd after all. Though what his eyes full upon next made him come to a sudden stop. That black mare, the one he had met many months before along this same river, the one who had interrupted his attempts to run his son out. Imbri was with Vengeance, and not only that they looked....happy, was that the right word. Yes, they looked happy together. How disgusting. Perhaps he was wrong about the stallion after all.

Vengeance was in the process of chewing the last of his lunch when he heard the sound of hoof beats. The stallion looked over to Imbri making sure that she was still there and hadn't wandered off without him noticing, not that he would really miss such a thing. After checking on his new found mate he brought his eyes to survey along the river. There, not too far off, appeared a large, and somewhat familiar shape. Unfortunately, too familiar.
With a heavy sigh, Vengeance swallowed the rest of his grass and began to make his way over to Thanos. What was the other stallion doing here? It did seem he had a way of making Vengeance's life quite miserable, whenever something good happened, the black stallion had to come in and rain on his parade.
"Thanos." He called out in a bland greeting. "Come to finish me off finally?" He asked coldly.

The black mare had been grazing silently beside the gray stallion for quite some time. However, she had been oblivious of the new comer until Vengeance had moved. She watched as her mate moved forward, and then turned to see what had caught his attention. As her eyes fell upon Thanos, Imbri's heart fell just a little. Now what?
Imbrium debated a few moments on whether or not she should join the two stallions. No, as much as she'd love to give Thanos a few choice words, it would be best for her to wait right where she was. There was no need to create anymore trouble for Vengeance. She would stay where she was until one of them asked for her, or perhaps grew impatient. Instead, the mare simply went back to eating, all the while keeping a keen ear on the pair.

Thanos' brow raised at Vengeance's words. Is that what the stallion expected him to do, to finish him off. If Thanos had wanted to finish Vengeance off he would have done so during their fight and not let him run off like a coward to prove his point. "If that is what you wish me to do." He replied in a bland voice to match that of Vengeance's.
"Hey isn't that the one from before? The one who stopped you from dealing with that little abomination." "How many times do I have to tell you two, that colt is not an abomination."
His gaze turned to regard the black mare for a bit before turning his head to address his rats. "Indeed it is." There was a bit of anger in his voice but that was not the reason for him coming out here. He had been meaning to talk to Vengeance, to offer him a place back in the herd, and not just to be an underling either, Vengeance had great potential to be a Beta as long as he didn't let his pride get in his way.
Giving his head a shake he turned his attention back to the grey stallion. This would be the last time he would make any offer like this to Vengeance, if the stallion turned him down then so be it. In the end he would still have Rowan to help him out at any moments notice. He stood there staring at Vengeance, it wasn't that he had forgotten what he wanted to say, no, he was just waiting to see what Vengeance would say, or do, before making his offer.

The gray stallion stood puzzled for a moment. So Thanos wasn't here to finish their fight? Well then, that was something of a shock. What on earth did the stallion want? Vengeance highly doubted that the Black Stallion had simply been out for a stroll. He was too far from the herd for that, and as Alpha, Thanos wasn't likely to wander far from the herd without reason.
"Well then," He said rather thoughtfully, thinking his words through carefully. "I'm guessing you're simply not out for a walk. Why did you come out here?" The stallion asked.
Vengeance wasn't quite sure what Thanos wanted, but at least he was being civil. Perhaps he would let him back into the herd? Well he wasn't going to go back without Imbrium, and he wasn't about to go back just to be pushed around again either. It would take more then just a simple apology for Vengeance to return.

Thanos stared at the grey stallion for a few moments. Of course he hadn't come all the way out here for a walk. At least he didn't remember that being the reason for his wandering today. Maybe he had, after all he did have a habit of wandering, though that had died down since his foals were born. The fillies needed him around so that he could shape and mold them into his future warriors. Blast, what was he out here for again? His eyes moved to the mare off in the distance and then back to Vengeance. "I came to talk."
"If you came to talk then get it over with!" War snapped. "Give him time." Peace said calmly.
Again he looked at the mare who was busy grazing in the distance. Thanos hated her for so many reasons, though those reasons seemed to be evading his memories right now, but deep down he knew he hated her. "You starting your own herd?" He asked though it wasn't meant to be a question.

The gray stallion would have shrugged if he could have. Vengeance had toyed with the idea of starting his own herd with Imbri, although they hadn't officially talked it over yet. Perhaps they would, in time.
"Possibly." He told the black stallion dryly. "Though as of now it's just the two of us." What would Thanos care of them starting a herd anyway? It was likely the stallion didn't even think Vengeance could do it, perhaps he found the thought amusing.
Quickly he cleared his head of such thoughts. The stallion wasn't sure of what Thanos wanted, but he wasn't about to share small talk with his old Alpha, especially after having been tossed aside so easily. The stallion asked again. "What do you want?"

Thanos had to fight every instinct to say that it wasn't surprising that is was just two of them so far because clearly Vengeance was bad at being part of a herd. But then he somewhat remembered why he had come out here. He stood quietly for a few moments while the shreds of thoughts and memories drifted through his mind to form a more solid imagine. Oh, yes there it was. "I thought perhaps you would want to come back." He said a bit plainly. His eyes moved to that blasted black mare and then back to Vengeance. "Though I had expected you to be alone."

Vengeance was quite shocked to hear the stallion's words. Was this some sort of trick? He was expecting Thanos to attack him again or something, but ask if he wanted to come back to the herd? Well then, that was the question now wasn't it?
Did he really want to go back, he supposed that he did. But he wasn't about to go alone, and he wasn't going to go back just to be Thanos' lap dog. "I suppose so, but I think you made it quite clear that I wasn't allowed back."
The gray stallion tried to stay as neutral as possible. Indeed he did want back into the herd, but it all seemed to be too easy. Why had Thanos changed his mind? If he indeed had.

"Yeah, why are we out here talking to him, you kicked him out of the herd remember." War chirped.
"I think we all know that was a mistake, prides got in the way."
Thanos stomped his foot in frustation of the rats interrupting his thoughts. "How many times do I have to tell you two to be quiet!" He snapped at them though his eyes were still trained on Vengeance. Thanos had stopped trying to hide the fact that he talked to them - or as the others saw it himself - while around the herd. He had gotten used to their odd stares, hushed comments and otherwise semi-confused behavior. Giving his head a shake he tried to refocus his thoughts on the present task at hand.
"That was then." He began after a very long pause. Some days it took longer than others to gather his thoughts, luckily today they came to him relatively quickly. "I think we have both had time to cool off." He let out a sigh it was hard for Thanos to admit things openly, especially when his thoughts keep getting jumbled. "I want you to come back." He finally blurted out. He could had expanded on it more but honestly his thoughts weren't working well enough right now to do such a thing.

They gray stallion hadn't been sure what to expect really, but to be invited back to the herd? What was it that had made Thanos change his mind about him? Wasn't the Alpha worried that he might 'betray' him, or prove to be just as unworthy as he had supposedly been before?
Vengeance stood quietly, in thought, for a few minutes. His head was swimming with thoughts and he needed to think them each over one at a time. No matter the reason, Thanos wanted Vengeance back. Well, that was what he had wanted wasn't it? At least until now. He wasn't about to go back without his new found mate.
"Well," He paused. "To be honest I never expected to be welcomed back. I must ask, why do you want me back? I'm not about to come back to the herd just to be kicked around and tossed back out again. What do you have to offer me?"

What did he have to offer o Vengeance? That was a good question and he knew he had the answers somewhere. Somewhere in his jumbled mind there was the reason why he had come all the way out here looking for the young grey stallion and why he wanted him back. He stared blankly at Vengeance, but surely the young stallion wold recognize that loook in the Alpha's glowing eyes meant that he was thinking - and thinking hard.
One thought slowly combined with another. Slowly things started to make sense, he remembered odd bits and pieces of their previous conversations before the young stallion up and disappeared. They didn't give him the full answer he was looking for but it was enough to give the younger stallion a reason to come back. "The herd is expanding, my foals are growing up quickly, I thought I could take care of everything myself. But lets face it there are too many lazy horses there and not enough willing to do anything. Rowan is doing his best but even between the two of us we just don't have enough time to do it all." He cleared his throat, really hating himself for admitting to his flaws. "What I need is another Beta to help me out."

Thanos wanted him as a Beta? The power hungry stallion practically started to drool at the thought. This was what he had wanted, what he had been longing for since his return from Hell. The position to have power, to do with it what he liked, but not so much that he had more responsibilities then he could handle.
"Beta huh?" The gray stallion asked almost sounding bored. He wasn't about to let Thanos know just how much he wanted what the black stallion was offering. There was just one more thing he needed before he could accept. "While that is a very tempting and generous offer," He continued. "I'm afraid I can't accept it unless I can bring Imbrium back with me."
