It wasn't easy for Y'ul to find Layla after the girl moved out of the Candidate barracks and back in with her foster mother. To start with Y'ul had no idea who this foster parent was, not to mention people didn't seem over eager to lend her a hand should she had decided to ask.
Just ask anyway. You don't have much time before the egg hatches and you become stuck with its contents.
Erath plodded along at Y'ul's side silently, though every now and then a mental yawn was shared between the two. They had both been roused early in order to attend more (useless) lessons and even though Y'ul didn't mind paying attention she was growing weary of the same things over and over.
I'd ask but I think looking would get me there faster.
If you say so.
The dragon sounded skletpical but said nothing more as they moved along, trying to keep her eyes out for the little girl as well. She couldn't remember her very much but thanks to Y'ul's prodding she was getting something of an idea about who she might be.

Latrine duty. Nobody liked it, everybody always hoped that somebody else would misbehave and get the task as a punishment, or just that somebody else would be chosen. You couldn't dodge forever, though, and honestly she had never been that good at dodging. She didn't want anyone to get cross with her for trying to get out of the nasty jobs.
Still, the ordeal was over now and she was clean and fresh from a trip to the baths, and she'd been given longer for the job than she needed so she had a little time to herself now... She supposed she could go onto her next job early and put in extra work, but after the latrines she just couldn't face it. She'd completed the work well, and quickly, surely she deserved a break for that.
Deciding that she did (only a small break though) Layla headed on towards the exit to the Weyrbowl. Having a bit of a rest when you'd got your work done in good time was fine, right? Of course. Nothing wrong with it at all.

The thing that ended up making it easier for Y'ul to find where Layla was happened to be the two flitters that clung to her like hot glue, one of them chirping sudden instructions to the other. Song of course was not going to fly around and search for the girl herself, she had to stay with her person Yulu, but that didn't mean that Green Hymn couldn't help them out. Hymn seemed to understand and agree and took to the air with a loud chirp, an image of a small girl that her person Yulu really liked in mind. Thankfully it would be easy enough to find her with their abilities so Hymn wouldn't forget before the girl was found.
Y'ul watched with mixed humor at how her timid flitt was slowly learning to issue orders as a Gold that actually had others obeying her, but she wondered if it was really like that. If anything Song would never order anyone, she probably only could make at best polite suggestions. That seemed more her style.
Meanwhile the green Hymn darted here and there around the area finally popping from between out in the Weyrbowl. She let her usual purple eyes scan for any traces of the person her person wanted, and with a delighted shriek she found her! It was easy enough to just fly over and stay there, so she did - all the while sending messages back to her group.
That green said she's found her - out in the Weyrbowl.
Y'ul gave a nod and changed her direction of walking, her pace brisk as she made a move for the outside.

"Oh!" Layla - who had just sat down in a nice sunny spot - startled as the small flitt appeared beside her. For a moment the surprise of having something just zoom up to her made hear heart race, but before long she took in the green's identity and smiled. "Hello Hymn," she waved at the flitt, just in case she was projecting images to Y'ul, "how are you? You look very pretty today... Is Y'ul looking for me?"
She hadn't seen the young rider since that evening in the dorms. She'd wanted to go and look for her, to chat, to ask if maybe possibly she could help with Erath sometimes... but she hadn't. She hadn't wanted to be a bother, she knew how busy new riders were with their dragons, she knew that all they really wanted was to be with their dragons. Y'ul was her friend os she would be kind to her, but she didn't want to get in the way of... well... whatever it was young riders did when they weren't in lessons or actively caring for their lifemates. Still... It was possible Y'ul wanted her help with something, or just wanted to see her! They were friends after all, and just because she had a dragon now didn't mean Y'ul was just going to forget her.

If Layla was wishing hard for Y'ul to show up then her wish was quickly granted, the Greenrider appearing on the edge of her vision as it were. Atop her shoulders rested Song, still chipper as usual, though it was the object in her arms that would have drawn more attention. The small bag at her hip that looked as though it was filled with sand and something else would have worked just as well, but the pretty egg was what was important.
There is Hymn, so your Layla must be right there. Are you going to just give it to her or do anything else?
I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. No need to rush into things, alright? Why are you in such a hurry anyway?
I'm not.
There was no need to argue any further if they were going to get this egg handed off and get to the kitchens to hatch her own before it went off and did something stupid, so Y'ul picked her pace up and almost jogged over to Layla's location. Hymn gave a happy chirp at seeing her person return and she assumed her usual position over the young woman's head, just contently humming.
"Ah Layla, good that I found you. I have something for you, but we'll need to hurry."

"Something for me? Hurry?" Lalya scrambled to her feet, confused and slightly worried. Hurrying was always stressful even when you knew what you were hurrying about. When you didn't... well it was best just to go along with whatever Y'ul told her to do, it would all be fine, her friend didn't look all that worried so she didn't need to be either. Right?
"Umm, of course," she went on after a moment, managing to collect her thoughts a little, "where do we need to hurry to?"

"We need to get to the kitchens and get you some meat so you can Impress this little mess when it comes cracking out of its shell. Faranth knows I don't need another flitter but I really wanted you to have one so. . . ."
She trailed off a bit before she just reached down and took Layla's hand, almost yanking the girl to follow along. She didn't really have time for idle chatter, they could take after the egg hatched and Y'ul didn't have to worry about any more of them getting attached her. For all that she didn't want flitts she certainly was piling them up, but she believed it was probably because she couldn't turn them away. For all as heartless as others could say she was she really never turned down a need for help. At this rate she was going to end up covered in flitts and more miserable then before, but whatever.
You don't seem unhappy with the gold one.
I like Song. Hymn is another matter entirely.
"Once we get to the kitchen I'll help you crack the egg. It's been moving since this morning so it's more than likely ready to come out, but we need to make sure you have some food present."

"Hu?" Layla said intelligently, finally noticing the egg. "A.. a flitt? For me- wah!" That last exclamation came as Y'ul grabbed her and dragged her off towards the kitchens, and after a moment or two Layla began to hurry of her own accord; a flitt! It was very sudden, and she couldn't even begin to think of what to say to her friend, somehow 'thank you' seemed inadequate. Her very own firelizard. She didn't care if she could train it to do tricks, didn't mind if it got into mischief, just so long as it loved her.
By the time they arrived outside the kitchens, Layla was grinning like a fool; a flitt! She couldn't believe it, finally a good piece of luck!... Not luck, no, it was kindness. She'd known Y'ul cared about her, but to just give her a firelizard? It was almost too much to believe. She wished she could do something in return.

"Alright, stay right here with Hymn. I'll go in and get you something to feed it and I'll try to be back quickly. If for some reason it starts to crack before I return send Hymn after me and I'll come running, okay?"
Y'ul handed over the egg to the smaller girl, a semi-smile on her face. She looked more displeased over something than anything, as of she were calculating time and speed, though not another word was spoken as she moved off into the kitchens. Erath picked the pace up as well to stay with her, probably grumbling that she was growing tired from all the movement today and would certainly need a good rubdown and a nap before it was all over.
Thankfully the pair got in, got some meat (that little p***k wasn't around), and got back out before anything could happen to the smaller girl and her new flitter. Hymn greeted them with a loud bugle of a chirp and moved to sit on Y'ul's other shoulder, watching and waiting.
"Alright, now that we're here and it's already so close to hatching, let's crack it out. There's a way for us to do it so the little beast inside won't be hurt, but I want to make sure whatever it is it looks only to you. Sound good?"
The Greenrider held out the meat to Layla and motioned for her to come closer, ready to assist her in getting things started. Song chirped slightly, unsure of how to take all this, but Hymn merely hummed with anticipation.
"Ready?"
