How to Make a Character Application

Characters must all be approved before they are RP'd. This is an absolute rule and applies to all characters, and methods of character attainment.

To submit a character, please fill out the form below. Title your thread as "[Weyr] Character Name - Craft" A staff member will then read through your character's information and either accept it by marking the title with approved or by offering some advice on improvement. A character profile must be marked approved before the character can be roleplayed.

Expectations of Profiles:
1. All characters are human and have normal human colourations. No half-elf, silver haired supermen please!
2. Keep histories believable - Pern is not an overly strife-ridden world so abuse, abandonment, run-aways, and the like are unlikely.
3. Personality descriptions should be at least two decent paragraphs long. Don't sell yourself short! Explain who your character is! (Dragons are matched by personality and short personalities make it diffcult to match dragons.)
4. Flawless characters will be rejected and will need to be revised. Even the friendliest people have flaws so be sure to flesh out a character with vices and virtues.
5. Most Candidates will be of Apprentice ranking in any craft. Journeymen will be uncommon and age should reflect the higher rank.
6. As Dragonriders respect the partnerships between Dolphins and Dolphineers as something akin to the bond between Human and Dragon, no partnered Dolphineers will be considered to Stand. Apprentice Dolphineers, still in the early stages of training, can be considered.
7. No characters will be directly related to any important NPCs (Weyrwomen, Lord Holders, Crafthall Masters, etc). Relation to Dolphineers, Wherhandlers, Crafters, Dragon Riders etc are alright.
8. No characters will have possession of a Flit prior to being approved - all IC flits must be obtained after the character is accepted.

Current Restrictions:
July 15th 2011 - Trader candidates are now fully disallowed until further notice no matter how short a period of time they spent trading. Restriction is also now placed upon the death of immediate family members, or anyone who was very close to a character.
June 07 2010 - No more trader-Candidates / Trader-Stands Impressions. Additionally, if a character is expected to be in a Stand Impression, that character must be at the specified Weyr as mentioned in their history. Characters will not be allowed to jump from one Weyr to the next for Hatchings - once a Weyr is selected, that character is associated with that Weyr only.
May 02 2010 - A temper (long-fused or otherwise) is not going to be accepted as a flaw after this point - you can still have a temperamental character but it can't be one of the main flaws. There are a great many other flaws that people can draw on.

Candidate/crafter form:
Name:
Age:
Gender:

Help Making a Character

Sometimes it's difficult to write up a character in words, isn't it? You're taking the whole of someone and boiling it down into summaries and sometimes things get lost in translation.

Remember, when writing up a personality, it's good practice to think how their history would have effected their outlooks and opinions. If someone has had a hard life, did it make them meek or did it make them durable and thick-skinned? If someone has had an easy life of wealth and luxury has it made them cocky, over confident, demanding? Asking these sorts of questions can certainly be helpful in describing that new Candidate and Weyrfolk.

These are some lists of character traits - both good and bad - that should be very helpful in writing up personalities especially!

If you don't know what a word means, look it up on dictionary.com!
