Pumpkinhead was afraid of the dark for different reasons than most. There was none of this nonsense of "there's something lurking in the shadows, run!" because, well, he was the thing that skirted at the edge of light most of the time! And oh, the fun he had for it! No, Pumpkinhead was afraid of the dark mainly because he didn't want people to see him first before he coudl pull off a prank, and his glowing eyes and nose could prove liabilities due to this. But wait . . . then he was actually afraid of his own eyes and nose? Or of other wolves? Wait, which was scarier?!
Oh, well, duh. He was the scariest of course~!
But even the scariest could be startled, as tonight proved. Incapable of sleep as usual, Pumpkinhead had been strolling about the graveyard where he and his mother had a den, saying various greetings to the souls of the dead and chatting about how to win Gullwing's heart over. This time, however, instead of the regular silence, he was greeted with a voice beyond the grave! It came form nowhere and sent the omega jolting upwards, stammering, "Where y-you come from? Where?!"
"Dooooown heeeeeeeeeere," said the whispery voice, like the crackle of paper.
"Ohmaigawdit'saspirit. Hi, spirit!" Pumpkinhead greeted with a wag of his tail. "Is spirit thirsty? Sounds like."
"Thaaaaaaaaat would be niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice."
"'Kays! Beeeeeeerightback!" And thus the omega prance into the middle of the territoy, going out of his way to howl at dens in passing:
"HEY, PUMPKIN WOKE A SPIRIT! COME SEE, COME SEE! NEEDS WATER!"

Spellbinder herself wasn't usually nocturnal, but she was easily wakened. Having spent tirelessly hour after hour regathering and restocking her stores of herbs, organizing and alphabetizing along the way, well, she was ready to cop out and not wake until midafternoon the next day. It wasn't easy business finding certain plants this time of year either, and Spell just wasn't a naturally nice wolf to be around. Thus - and just upon just putting her head down to rest it felt like - when Pumpkinhead's shouts echoed cavernously about her stone den, well, ol' Spell was in a state of utter, exhausted, headachey fury.
"Will see personally his head is ripped off!" she growled to herself while dragging her weary body out of the den. Just in time to see Pumpkinhead clambor up atop Pride Rock and howl for attention. Oh, how it boiled her blood! What was it with the younger generation, especially omegas, that irked her so? Spellbinder barked at him and glowered. "Can't see that we're sleeping, you **************?!"
The asterisks given to censor the sentence were a nice indication of just how angry Spellbinder the short-tempered was about this. Ironically, this meant she was making just as much noise as he was.

Unlike Spellbinder and Pumpkinhead, Oathkeeper was quite fast asleep at the time, a pale figure curled up and barely moving as she dreamt. It was some sort of peacable dream this time, a memory allocating itself as the central theme. Aah, her first swimming lesson with mother and several others. It had been such a warm summer day that a dip in the Timeless River was the best idea in the world. And Mother smiled down upon her and laughed as her daughter began to dog-paddle, frightening some of the local fish away to the disgruntlement of several others, and Father was watching with her favorite little half-smirk --
". . . COME SEE! NEEDS WATER!"
"Mmng . . . There is plenty of water, dear, I promise . . ." She roused slightly and blearily fluttered her eyelids until her eyesight was adjusted to the twilight of the night. A full moon was out and there was hardly a cloud in sight, bathing the land with silver rays of light. Oath yawned and thought to go back to sleep, but Spellbinder's infuriated answers would not let her. Sighing quietly, the shaman stretched herself out and trotted out to greet them.
"Please, can we be sensible about this? It is the dead of night, not the middle of the day for your usual squabbles." She meant this as a joke, but for some reason not even Pumpkinhead laughed. Curious . . .

DP was furious, beyond furious, she was enraged to find her precious little pumpkinhead gone from their den. She hated not knowing where her son was at every moment, awake or not! She awoke to the sound of his cries which made her panic even further, and as she ran to find him Spells voice echoed in the night. Ah an outlet for her anger! For she would never be angry with her precious little pumpkin. She growled and ran towards Spell her eyes narrowed as she heard the foul words coming from her mouth.
"Spell! You get away from my baby! Your OBVIOUSLY not asleep yourself and you've probably woken everyone else up now!" She huffed and moved to ram into the female before swerving away, bah Spell wasn't worth picking on besides her baby needed her.
She moved over to Pumpkin and her eyes instantly lit up with motherly devotion. "Are you thirsty baby? Is that it, come along we'll get you all the water you need and you can tell me about the spirits."

Gullwing was so happy, happy to be home and home was where the heart was. Right? Of course! She'd followed Oath home, home to the dens where she was currently curled up in, red tail over blue snout, Raziel III curled under one paw. She tugged him tightly to her chest, snuggling in with him. He was her best friend...well, one of her best friends, anyways. Pumpkinhead, he was her best-best friend... She loved him with all of her heart; even his tricks and silly behavior and the way he talked -- she loved it all. What she didn't love, perhaps, was the overprotective mother hen that followed them everywhere. It was like DP hated her or something.
But as Pump's voice filled her den, excited and bouncing and full of fun, Gull's sleepiness was gone, suddenly vanished, and she was on her paws, chasing after him. Spirit? Was this another one of his tricks? She giggled and squealed, racing over to the slightly-bigger male and nipping at his ear. "Do tell me what's going on, Punky!" Her voice was soft and light, innocent even.

"Momma P!" yipped Pumpkinhead as he saw the familiar masked face, grinning stupidly. Yay, she wasn't getting older! She could still keep up! See, even Momma could beat time! And mean ol' Spellbinder could just shut up about it. "I'z not needin' the water, Momma P," he explained, "it's the spirit that does. I SAW IT WITH MAH GLOWIES." Well okay, not really, but whatever. He heard it which was as good as seeing it, right?
But oh, did he almost jump when he heard that second, equally loved vioce once more! "Gullzie? GULLZIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE~! And Razzy too!" Oh, his rump was a'blur with the furious tail waggings, and it was only because he needed to talk with everyone that somehow, someway, the omega found enough patience to remain on the top of Pride Rock. "Yayyou'rebackthat'sawesome! Lesee. Um."
He cleared his throat and tried to look professional. This stoic look quickly sagged back into the crooked grin that so matched the jagged edges of the pumpkin top he wore. "Couldn't sleep again, no no, sometimes happens. I'z was walkin' along talkin' with dem spirits whe nall a'sudden I hears this RAWR noise, and Punky putted on this brave face and says 'Watchoo want, evil spirit?' and it says Waaaaaaaater, so now Punky needs ta get some afore it goes hauntin'! I knoes it was a spirit 'cause I heard it in da graveyard, and I din' see nuffin!"

"Oho, deranged mother herself comes to his aid! Wed'ma!" Spellbinder cursed right back at her, fur bristling so stiffly something probably could have been pierced on each individual hair. The pack's omegas were one thing, but DP was one of those few individuals she could never accept. Like a pack could only take a certain amount of bitter wolves as it was, and that one was hardly productive to them as a whole! Pumpkin this, Pumpkin that always!
"Tell son his maniac words are not welcome!" the beta growled right back, unintimidated and growing even mroe annoyed as she heard the reason for being wakened. Spirits? Bah! "His illusions sap my sleep unwarrented! Let him ramble with you in your den, I won't have anything of this!" Darkened bags indeed evident beneath her eyes, and a snarl was just waiting to rip out of her maw. One reason, just one reason to leap up and bite . . .

Oathkeeper's ears tilted back with some concern. Oh dear . . . "Spell, please try to control yourself," she told the femme in a soft, soothing voice that did little to calm Spellbinder down as usual. "Take one of the empty dens away from this place if you must, but I think we should investigate this. Even if it is not a ghost Pumpkinhead saw, I think it merits at least an examination. If you do not wish to participate, please try to go back to sleep before you wake someone else."
Oath faced forward again with that out of the way, giving a small, warm smile as she watched Pumpkinhead's elated response to Gullwing's presence. "The graveyard you said? If you want us to look into it, I can certainly come along to see what this is all about." Oath neither denied nor supported his claims of spirits, wanting more information before making a choice.

Winner had a foul look on his face as his head popped out of his den - he'd been tying to ignore the fuss going on outside, I mean did he really care about whatever it was that had the fool wolf all riled up? Not really...but there was something he did care about and that was his sleep. They were interrupting it and the fur along his neck bristled slightly as he strutted into the midst of the hullaballu.
"Fellow can't get any sleep around here!" He commented sourly, though catching the tail end of the conversation he really had no idea what was happening other then something should be 'investigated' well clearly he ought to do it - he was the best and it would be faster if he did it. Winner didn't bother mentioning this however - it should be an obvious conclusion after all.

Hero was jerked awake by the shouting outside and in the hurry of scrambling out of his den whacked his head on the roof "oof!" He commented out loud as he sprawled back on his haunches before starting forward again - this time being sure to duck his had at the door before heading out into the group.
Damnit! Was his first thought as he noted the strutting saunter of Winner walk in before him. Curse that wolf - whatever was going on Winner would know first. He always knew first...or figured it out first, or just plain got their first. Picking up the pace he ran towards the group anxious not to miss out on anything else -especially information Winner might get and he might not. "Whats going on?!" He shouted ahead - just to let them know he was coming, see Hero was on the way!

DP snarled her fury at Spell, but before she could open her mouth to yell at the other female she saw an even more hated enemy. Gullwing...her eyes narrowed in disapproval as Pumpkin's excitement made her heart plummet. Oh that nasty nasty female so naughty always trying to use her feminine seduction on her poor innocent baby. She would see to it that didn't happen though, no gull would never dig her horrible claws into her precious pumpkinhead. She snarled then, everyone was trying to yell at her baby!
She growled and moved beside her son her red eyes fixed on the small gathering that had amassed. "Hush! Hush now all of you! My pumpkin doesn't lie! If he said he saw something that needs water, then we should go see what it is!" Perfectly logical...of course DP's words might have more weight to them if she wasn't always willing to believe Pumpkin no matter how true or false his claims. She would have had them all walk to the ends of Telk and back if it pleased her precious Pumpkin.
She looked at Oath then, the female was usually the most...sensible, at least Oath was always sweet to her baby and that made DP almost like her. Anyone who was nice to Pumpkin was okay in her book...except Gullwing, treacherous female that she was.

Pumpkinhead rolled his eyes as two more wolves ran in howling questions. "You is all later-taters!" he chided Hero and Winner with a disapproving frown. "Wake up faster! I was a'yellin' and a'yelllin'. Spirit needs water!" He turned to DP and nodded. "Momma P helps. And Oathikins and Gulzie. Not later-taters or screamy blue fur. Need leaves with water! I goes and gets spirit." With this, he suddenly leapt and tumbled over to the ground, scrambling to his paws and darting away faster than a dizzied wolf should.

Spellbinder huffed and growled, seeming to swell in size from her pent up anger. Was half the pack really needed to tend to some loud-mouthed retard? She had far better things to do than listen to Pumpkin's ramblings, and bristled as Oath gave her another supposedly calming look. "Boy is hallucinating and forcing audience," she growled as the rival pair ran in. "Not Spell, no, I am getting sleep like intelligent wolf. Good. Night." With a huff, the turned about and slunk back towards her own den. Hopefully with the idiot run off the volume would die down enough for her to get some sleep.

Oathkeeper winced, hating to see tension and not see a way to resolve it less bitterly. She could only hope that Spellbinder was going to get a long rest and dream peacefully enough to wake with only her usual temper. "Sigh . . . Good eve, Hero and Winner," she greeted them, and then turned to address everyone gathered. "It seems something is about tonight. Please forgive Pumpkinhead's howling, I will go see what this is about. Get some sleep." She'd hate to ask anyone to accompany them after being so rudely awakened after all; it wasn't their obligation to look into things. Oath loped after the orange and black figure, led on by the faint glow of his nose and eyes on the dark ground.

Good night, more like good riddance! DP thought snarkily, but Oath being there and on Pumpkins side made her hold her tongue. She jerked up then as he leapt and ran after him, much more gracefully but frantic about his tumble.
"Pumpkin slow down baby, are you okay? Did you sprain a paw!" Her legs pumped under her following her beloved child without anymore thoughts for the others.
