Leading the way, Gliss walked in front of his family. Winter was finally giving way to spring. The first of the flowers were already poking their buds above the ground and it was warm enough that he didn't see his breath except in the dead of night. The warmth was a pleasant change from the snows of winter. It was because of that warmth that he had decided that it was a good time to take the girls to the lake for the first time.
"Hurry up, now," he called back to his daughters and his mate. "If you fall behind the wolves will get you." As usual when he made such proclamations his tone was almost joking... but a little not.
Capriccia was walking alongside her mother. She blinked at the words of her father and looked at her mother with anxiety. "Mamma... there aren't really wolves around here, are there?" She looked around uncertainly into the forest around her.

 Eyelids lowered as she kept a careful watch on her daughters, Zhenzhen followed slowly after her mate, not wanting to look clumsy before him or the girls. She wanted to become a proper role model for her children, but she was struggling just to walk without tripping.
Her ears flickered as she cast a glance up at Gliss, her wonderful prince, his words a bit worrying to her as she gently nudged her daughters forward.
"I'm sure your father is right, so stay close," she murmured, tail brushing against her daughter's side.  A giggle escaped the young filly as she picked up the pace, prancing up to her father before casting a glance back at the rest of her family, sticking out her tongue. She raised her knees high with each step, her feathers quivering as she held her head high, marching beside her father.
"The wolves won't get me daddy," she beamed, staring up at her father before she cast a glance over her shoulder. "I don't know about them though," she mumbled, narrowing her eyes as she looked at her sisters.

 Elegy wondered farther back form the rest of her family, her dead lovebird perched carefully on her shoulders as she wondered along. "Humf, who fears the big bad wolf," giggles then breaks out in her sing songy voice "who fears the big bad wolf! the big bad wolf! the big bad wolf!" Tosses her head and flicks her tail back and forth as she dances along.

Gliss' ears flicked back in irritation, hearing the chatter and singing from behind him. Sometimes he worried that his non-feathered daughters had inherited their mother's slow intellect. One of them was carrying around a dead bird! No one had ever done that in his side of the family.
Instead of annoying himself with listening to them, he turned all his attention on his beautiful white daughter, Parade Elegy. "Well I wouldn't let the wolves get you," he crooned at her while he walked. "You're my little darling and I'd fight off a whole pack of them for you. The rest of them, though..." he snorted in derisive laughter and left the sentence hanging.
Capriccia stepped a little closer to her mother, still fearfully eying the bushes. Could wolves be hiding there right now? Watching them? Waiting for one of them to fall behind? She shivered. She would keep up even if she had to run.
"Mamma, I don't want to- eek!" She gasped as she looked behind her and noticed that Elegy was there, singing and carrying her usual dead bird. "Mamma! Elegy is gonna make all the wolves come get us if she keeps carrying that thing! Make her stop!"

Zhenzhen smiled down at Capriccia, gently nuzzling her in an attempt to soothe her fears. Her eyes briefly darted towards the bushes, in case the wolves Gliss had mentioned were nearby.
She jumped, startled by her daughter's cry before she turned to face the cause, Elegy. "Don't worry dear, I'll take care of everything," she whispered, turning to walk towards her "problem" daughter.
She crinkled her nose in disgust as she stopped in Elegy's path, "I'm afraid your going to have to get rid of that thing." Her eyes drifted over to the small corpse before the quickly snapped back to her daughter's face. "Not only will it attract the animals, but it isn't very ladylike either."
Parade Elegy grinned as she trotted beside him, giggles escaping her. A "Yay!" burst from her mouth as she smirked, shooting occasional glances at her sisters. "Daddy is so strong and brave, but not even for mom?"
She snickered, gaining a slight bounce in her step that made the feathers on her face flop about. There was a reason daddy loved her the best, after all, she was perfect. Her sisters and mother were wimpy and... Her eyes darted over to Elegy as she snorted. "Weird."
