Inside Julian's room is a perfectly made bed, untouched books and a wardrobe that is covered in dust. A large amount of his closet is cleared out, parts of machinery are thrown about. Secretly, underneath the floorboards, certain things are kept hidden from his father. Among those things is a video camcorder. Around it are small DVDs with months written on them.

RP Prompt (custom story)

Julian had spent all day on his building blocks and had finally got them together as he liked them. He loved building things. As he was admiring his work, he was told that a man had decided to adopt him. The matron of the house took him by the hand and led him to meet an older gentleman. He had a white beard, much like Santa Clause, but more pointed than fluffy. He wore a nice suit and top hat, it was almost intimidating for the child.

The man, who had been sitting, looked at Julian closely before backing away and smiling. "I knew there was something about you, boy." He spoke with a gentlemanly accent, something British, but with an undistinguished dialect to Julian.

"My name is Herbert W. Cogsworth," he began. "I am the owner of Steam Utilities International. But before I ran the company, I was a simple boy like you."

Julian was hardly interested, but he was taught to be polite, so he listened as the man carried on. "You see, I had worked myself from the ground up," the old man continued. "I had a spark to create, improve and invent. I see that same spark in you, boy. What is your name?"

"J-Julian, sir" the child shyly responded. He wasn't sure where this conversation was going at all.

"Well, Julian, I intend to nurture that creative desire your caretakers tell me so much about. Perhaps one day you'll be as big of a success as I am. Until then, I'd like to give you something." The old man reached into his coat and pulled out a wooden box. He opened it and inside where a pair of goggles. "When I first started working, these were all I had. Now, I want you to have them. I hope they serve you as well as they've served me."

Julian reached out at the amazing things and placed them on his head. The colors of the world changed. Such amazing wonder! He began to glow and felt himself feel complete. If Julian understood much of what the old man had said, it meant he could start working with more than just stupid blocks.

Not long after, Julian was all backed and was being lead out to a car. Julian had never seen anything like it before. A man had opened the door for both the old man and Julian to enter, then walked into the driver's side and began to drive. Such a weird car! It didn't run like anything he'd seen!

"Do you like it?" the old man asked smuggly. "Steam-powered. As are a lot of the things that my company produces and makes. Son, you have not seen anything yet."

RP Character Profiles

Name: Herbert W. Cogsworth
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 76
Profession: CEO
Description: Cogsworth stands a short, stout character. Considered the runt of his family, he had always done so much to try to prove he was just as strong, if not stronger. Those days behind him, he sits with more bulge from his long years of luxury. His face is weathered by the heat and steam of many years, his beard is waxed at the tips of corners to be ornate and damper. His bald head is usually cover with a top hat, rarely is he without one.
Personality: At one point, Cogsworth's expectations of the world would be relevant, but the future has passed him in more ways than technology. Conservative to the core, he looks down on new ideas with scorn.
Likes: Money, Being in charge, Cigars, The "good old days"
Dislikes: Circuitry, Computers, Environmentalism, Liberals
Why adopt?: With his age catching up to him and no heir to his fortune, Cogsworth had thought that the perfect monument to his success would be to find a prodigy to take over his business, and pretty much his own life.

Name: Charles [Last name unknown]
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: ???
Profession: Head Servant
Description: Almost everything about Charles almost leads one to believe that he wasn't born, rather constructed. He stands with black hair, but it is graying. Hardly any facial expression and constant straightened posture can make age anyone's guess.
Personality: Bland. If you could water down bland, then dilute that, it would be Charles. He will answer any question he can, but disregards anything about his personal life. As far as asking his opinion, he is always a yes man.
Likes: ???
Dislikes: ???

Name: Julian Cogsworth
Gender: Male
Race: Fae
Age: Child
Personality: Julian loves to work with his hands. So much so that he gets in trouble for it. He is secretly curious of the world his adoptive father keeps from him.
Likes: Building, Drawing, Staying up late, Hiding from the maids
Dislikes: Lectures, Obligations, Sweets, The cold

[First Entry]

Julian struggled with the camera, pressing a few buttons, then turning the entire thing a few times. Finally, noticing that it was still running, he placed it up on its tripod.

"Uh... hi." He awkwardly looked around in silence for a moment before he spoke again. "Well, I don't really know what I had in mind for this, but... it's my video diary. My so-called "father" might not like it if he found out. Maybe that's why I'm doing it..."

"Anyway," he he shook his head quickly, realizing he was ahead of himself. "My name is Julian Cogsworth. I am adopted. My "father" is a very successful man. Well, successful in everything but being there. Whatever..."

He looked around, almost as if he forgot that the camera was still rolling. "He hates electronics that work off of batteries. Or batteries that aren't powered by some sort of old fashion device. I do think some of the stuff is cool, but it's just... too old." He sighed heavily. Perhaps it would've been better if he wrote down what he was going to say. Well, if he did that, why would he need to record it then. He did it again, too much talking. Recording space was being filled with silence.

"So, I guess that concludes my first entry. I would thank whoever is watching for watching, but this is private and I probably would hate you. So there." More silence as he looked around the room awkwardly, after which he finally reached for the camera and turned it off.

[Second Entry]

Julian pressed a single button on the camera and backed away in view of it. He looked straight into it and began to talk.

"My name is Julian. But... you'd know that," Julian blinked hard. Somehow, in that slip, his confidence seemed to shiver and weaken. "Ugh... I've been living under my father's care for some time. But I've just received great news! After trying to talk to him about it for so long, he's finally signing the papers to admit me into the academy, which means..." Julian swelled up with glee. "A dorm!"

He stopped suddenly and looked around, realizing he hadn't thought about his volume before he spat out the last piece of the sentence. After three seconds to acknowledge that he was in the clear, he began again. "I already started to pack my things, but this is the last thing I have to go. I'll have to hide it and keep it on me because I'm pretty sure that Charles is going to want to check my stuff to make sure I packed everything right."

Julian stopped for a moment. "Charles is my butler. Well, my father's butler. He's just the one my father sends to keep an eye on me. I sure hope he doesn't end up following me to school." Julian pictured it, a butler waiting for him outside of every room he walked in to, then shuddered. "I couldn't even think about putting up with that. Well, anyway, the next time I record, I should be in a new place, so... Bye?"

[Mother's Day Entry]

((Due to time flowing oddly through RPs, the events in this journal entry happen separate from anything Julian is currently in))

Julian adjust the focus a bit, checking the camera one last time before he sat in front of it. Sitting was a good pace of things, less trouble from thinking on one's feet.

"So... Today is Mother's Day..." it wasn't a strong beginning, he gave himself. He shrugged, a bit indifferent on the subject. "Well, I don't have a mother. None of us really do." He looked a bit sad for a moment and looked away.

"The families that take us in aren't our real families because we weren't really 'born'," he began thinking aloud. "I was told what I was. Created to save a dying race, that's kind of pressuring. But still, I don't have a mother because I didn't come from a woman. And would that mean that I could even have children myself? I don't know..."

After a few seconds of staring off, he looked back at the camera. He didn't expect answers, he just needed to know these questions went somewhere. "What's it like for normal kids? What's it like for them to have a mother? Are they really always there when you feel alone and sad? Why couldn't I have been born with one? Like a normal kid."

Julian sighed deeply before slowly getting up and turning off the camera.
