Name: Nasunda
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Generally considered straight due to lack of evidence to the contrary
Craft: Harper
Rank: Sr. Apprentice (specialty: message drums)
History: Being a Harper, Nasunda would have loved for her past to be as exciting as her mother made her own out to be, but alas, life was not kind to our young friend. Her father was a fisherman, settled in a small hold near Tillek. He met her mother when she travelled to the hold and the two fell in love. Her mother often tells stories about their whirlwind romance and the daring things that her father did for her, but we wouldn't bore you with those exaggerated tales. When she was old enough to speak her mother encouraged her to sing, and started her along the path that would lead her to her current Craft.
Along the way she met a roguishly handsome young man who claimed he was interested in becoming a Harper too. Unfortunately, he had something else he wanted to accomplish before that. It was pure luck that brought her into contact with Senra, the farmer's daughter, who was also hanging out with the young man in question. Apparently he had told her he wanted to be a Farmer too. It was funny how stories changed. Instead of fighting for their knight in shining armour, the girls banded together and proceeded to put him in his place. Word on the street is that he's hooked up with the herder's daughter, telling her that he really, really loves bovines. There is a very good chance that he's actually telling the truth this time.
Her friendship with Senra, though it seemed unusual to outsiders, was the kind that transcends lifetimes. The two enjoyed many turns of adventures (mostly poking fun at the spiderclaws on the beach) before Nasunda was old enough to be apprenticed to the Harper Hall and sent away to study. She found her calling not in teaching or singing as her mother had but in the message drums, which she has proven to have a talent for. Before she could get too settled down in the Hall she was Searched and whisked off to the Weyr to stand for the newest clutch.
Appearance: Easy on the eyes but nothing exceptional, Nasunda doesn't stray too far from "plain" in her looks. She has a nice face with standard Pernese features that don't mark her as any particular lineage or noble blood. Her hair doesn't do anything to help her stand out either, being both a common brown and only gently wavy. Despite the fact that she does very little physical labour, she cuts it close to her shoulders so that it stays out of her way. Occasionally, for Gathers, she'll do something interesting with it, but her idea of what looks nice tends to wander off the beaten path, if you will. It is not uncommon to see her with her hair in three ponytails tied with Harper blue ribbon. Her skin tans easily under the sun, adding more brownness to her, and her eyes finish off the job by being, you guessed it, a common shade of dark brown. On the whole, nothing out of the ordinary or special about her, but that only encourages her to focus on her personality instead.
Personality: Nasunda is quite the character. Her mother was their Hold's self-proclaimed "smooth-taking Harper" and some of her 'savoir-faire' has been passed on to her daughter. Notorious for being able to smooth-talk her way out of troublesome situations, Nasunda learned how to manipulate words to her advantage. She is surprisingly persuasive, especially when it comes to getting other people to do her dirty work so she can reap the benefits. Food is the best example. Nasunda's cooking skills are somewhere around decent – she has to be useful sometimes – however she enjoys nothing better than having someone else do the work for her. Less energy expended and more food for her. What's a better deal than that? Her mother praised this ability, and as a result Nasunda feels no guilt for her actions. Any gullible person is fair game, in her opinion, and if they are so easily convinced then they deserve to do her bidding. By the same token, if she lets her guard down and is outfoxed by another then she accepts her losses and does what she's told. It's a double-edged sword, but one that she has come to accept.
The young Harper learned by example in more ways than just cheating naïve children out of their sweets. Just like her mother she's quick-witted, cheeky, and very self-centred, rarely willing to do something for someone unless there's something in it for her. If there's no reward then don't count on her help. Unless, of course, you fight to regain what is rightfully yours. It's a strange sort of honour code that Nasunda abides by. On one hand, she wouldn't think twice about taking advantage of the stupid, but at the same time she believes that you should get what's rightfully yours (by work or gift). If you're the next in line whether it be for a title or a position of power then nobody is allowed to bud in front of you. The cool will always outsmart the uncool, and the deserving should get what's coming for them. There has to be a certain amount of order, otherwise everything would just fall apart. "Natural justice", as Nasunda calls it, doesn't exempt anyone.
Just as she believes in "natural justice", so Nasunda believes in the need to find your own "rhythm" or uniqueness. In order to do so you must learn about another's rhythm, learning their ways and how they perceive the world. Once you get a feel for their rhythm you can begin to modify it to suit your own character. Each person you meet will alter your rhythm until eventually you walk to a beat that's all your own.
Other: Good memory for rhythm and drum beats; super special awesome with animals (lol not really).
