Who: Phiel, Zeke, and Zurine When: Half-past noon Where: Lab 305 Weather: Windy and cool
There was a faint nervous tic going on at the right corner of Zeke's lips. The note he had in his hand from Alex was found atop their shared reception desk, with that bright colored paper clipped to the front of a short folder of papers. The words written down in neat black letters was cheery though, so that tic was at a rather odd place if one were to gaze upon the young man.
Zeke!
There's a Raevan in the third office who is going to be rehomed today. Her guardian has already been chosen, called, and should arrive sometime in the early afternoon. I'd take you through it myself, but Zul took off earlier after we argued and I need to find him. All the legal forms and her information are in the folder on the desk, just remember what I told you and you'll be fine! I know you can do it little brother!
Love, Alex
P.S. Lollipop, second drawer. : )
He had the spoken of lollipop between his fingers of his left hand, twirling the treat around in an idle manner as he reread the note for another time. The tic grew, but the nerves were met with excitement. So far, the largest Raevan-related things he had taken care of were Anita's bottle and last weekend when Cordelia and her guardian Ebony came in saying that another Raevan had been acting out of sorts. He was slowly climbing up the ladder from simple receptionist and this made him grin. Zeke cast the note aside, tucking it beneath the post-it paperweight, and flipped open the file. 'Early afternoon' could be any time and he might as well familiarize himself with the legal documents that had to be pressed on this new guardian before he or she could see the new Raevan. Luckily those were on top - forms similar to the ones Anita had signed when turning over her bottle, but with a slot for the Raevan's name and the soul and Essence already filled out in Alex's handwriting.
"Snowy owl and...Ice Rose. Pretty." He said, the lack of a photograph in the folder had to make him guess at what this female Raevan looked like. Zeke felt bad then, recalling how Alex had told him Zul would always go back into the room the newborns were kept in until their caretakers arrived and talk to them. His own Raevan was still in her tank and growing, so that owl Frei was alone for now. He'd go back there himself to make sure she was okay, but he enjoyed the idea that Alex pressed on him - the one where the guardian sees his or her Raevan before anyone else (besides Zul of course) plus he had to man the desk for the lucky one. Hopefully the person would arrive soon, he was dying to see!

The phone call, despite all of Phiel's hopes to the contrary, had come as something of a surprise to the bewildered, happy bodyguard. He had not expected the call from the Lab, and though he had spoken with his usual quiet, self-contained patience, as soon as he had put the phone back down onto its cradle, he'd looked with some amazement and a sharp sense of sudden protectiveness down at the small, rickety table where the phone lay. This was... unexpected, but the thought of having someone to protect, someone to take care of, that struck Phiel just right at this moment in his life, especially with the freshness of his relationship with Kinsey. He was still feeling things out, learning where to shelter and protect and where to let her do her own thing. He, Phiel thought, was learning to relate to others more fully, to care without distancing himself so strongly. The process was long and arduous, but he was willing to do it.
He had asked for a bit of time to prepare a space for his new charge, and had been told that he should come as soon as he could manage. Anxiety and anticipation and excitement knotted up tightly in his belly -- but Phiel drew a deep breath. All right. Deep breaths, and he would take this on with his usual aplomb; there was no need for him to become all flustered over this, was there? It would do no one any good if he did not work with efficiency, especially not his new charge...
And that was that. For the next couple of hours, Phiel was thoroughly engaged in moving things about, making something of a sanctuary for his new charge. Would they require a bed? Would they like fish, perhaps a tank with a few select fish, something bright to catch their eyes?
He was stalling and he knew it.
Half an hour later, he was parking his car outside of the lab, closing the door quietly, whistling to himself and making very certain that his gloves were pulled on right and tight, that his vest was neatly and properly fitted, and that there were no wrinkles in the fall of his trousers. Phiel needed the settled comfort of that, at least, if he was stepping forth for now into a brave new future.
He approached the door with long, purposeful strides. He knew exactly what he was doing, and where he was going, so there was no reason for Phiel to feel so unsure of himself. He could protect, and he could provide -- and obviously the Lab agreed with him, right? Right. He opened the door, presenting a small, grave smile as he looked around, catching sight of Zeke -- and nodding. "Good afternoon," Phiel murmured quietly, inclining his head again in a half-bow of patient stillness, his grey gaze flinty and bright. "I am Phiel Cereus... I believe you should be expecting me?"

Taps against the desk could be heard as Zeke straightened all the forms and documents he was just reading out before he would set them aside to continue. Just as he laid the papers with the legal jumbo out the door opened with a faint hingey squeak, and the vet turned his head towards the sound. The man who stood there neither looked lost or confused and the young man with the two-colored hair figured this was the lucky guardian. Great timing too.
"Welcome to the Lab, Phiel." He said cheerily as he pulled himself up out of the swivel chair and extended his hand, inviting Phiel over to take it. "My name's Zeke and if you're the one they called about picking up a Raevan, then I believe I am."
A smile lit his features as his words faded into the air. He was rather amused that this Phiel Cereus didn't seem taken aback by his odd appearance, though given that he was at Lab 305 and presumably here to pick up a being whose body ended below their chest explained enough. Made Zeke feel rather cozy in the otherwise formal-appearing lobby. The pierced vet opened his mouth again but faltered there, wondering how to start this off right. He would normally pull the man into a conversation, but given the circumstance he figured he'd best get to the meat of the situation. He grabbed the legal forms with one hand and moved the neat 'Reception' plaque from the front of the desk, placing the papers down before Phiel and taking a pen from the cup on the desk (and putting that lollipop in its place).
"I'm sure you're excited to see her," he said, "So I won't keep you here long. These are just some legal forms for you to sign. Name, date, the whole nine - there's also a slot for your Raevan's name, but that can come after you've been introduced." Sure this man might have a name or two already picked out - or maybe none at all - but Zeke was certain something would come to mind once he saw his Raevan. Despite the smile as he waited for Phiel to read and sign where needed, he was feeling some pangs of jealousy. It wouldn't be long now before this man was meeting his Raevan for the first time and then soon after taking her home, and the veterinarian was eager for his day to come too. A part of him - his conscience? - kicked himself mentally. This wasn't about him and he shouldn't be wanting. Also, there was something else he should say...
"Oh! Right! Questions. Ah...If you have any, I more than likely have some sort of answer for them!"

"Thank you," replied Phiel when he was greeted; and when the hand was offered, he approached with long, confident strides and took it -- his handshake was firm, his palm warm beneath the fine, thin dark leather. His smile widened a bit, a firm greeting. "Indeed, I received a call this morning. It is a pleasure to meet you, Zeke."
Phiel had almost certainly seen stranger-looking individuals than this strange young man that stood before him. In fact, his Kinsey had violet hair, no less -- so he was more than all right with the slightly... unorthodox sight of the man doing his pickup. His eyes flicked over him, though, and he chuckled faintly. Unorthodox hardly covered it, but the word was enough, as far as Phiel was concerned. Bending curiously, Phiel narrowed his eyes, looking over the papers.
"I am indeed excited to see her -- " it was a female, thought Phiel with an excited little flutter somewhere in his belly " -- thank you. I do believe I will wait until after I have met her to give her a name. I would like it very much if her name... suited her." His expression curved into a deeper smile, crinkling the corners of his grey eyes and making them warmer, brighter, gentler. Lowering his head, he began to read over the papers more clearly, just to make quite certain that it made no undue demands or ones that he could not fulfill. It was not as if Phiel had not been aware of the rules before. He had researched as much as he could, after all, and would not have put in his application if he had not been sure. It was just another way to be sure of himself, right?
Right.
He was scratching out his signature, an elegant -- if unreadable -- scrawl, when Zeke asked him if he had any questions. A moue of thought crossed Phiel's lips. "Hm. Questions... ah. Will she require any... special accommodations, that you know of?"

"Likewise." The pierced man said as Phiel returned his welcome with a greeting of his own. His returned handshake was also firm, more friendly than professional, and Zeke already had the feeling the man before him would make a good guardian to the Ice Rose. Phiel's handshake wasn't flimsy or loose and that seemed to tell Zeke that this man knew what he was getting into and looked forward to it.
"Makes sense to me." He replied in regards to what Phiel said about naming the Frei. Watching the new guardian look the part of his excitement kept assuring Zeke this man would do a good job. He looked professional in his attire - like Ethan had been when he met the man - but his eyes and smile said there was a good man beneath the slacks, vest, and leather gloves. As Phiel was preoccupied with reading and signing, Zeke picked up the folder and began to flip through the present and short history of the Raevan a few rooms away, just in case there were any qu-- and there were.
"Well," he began, "I'm thinking that because her Essence is what's called an Ice Rose and her soul is a snowy owl, she might need a cooler climate to be comfortable, especially in summer." More pages flipped. It made sense for two cool-weather creatures combined in one to need the same, but so far the reports didn't say one way or the other. Then again, the Lab was climate controlled to be cooler on the first floor, thanks to all the temperature sensitive machinery contained in the laboratory and the newborn was likely kept on the same floor in her own little room until now. "Her file doesn't say one way or the other so I'm assuming this, but at any rate I'm sure she'd be able to tell you herself when the time comes."
Zeke flashed Phiel another smile, still standing as he waited for the other man to be done with reading and signing where needed. So far, so good on his first pick up experience; Alex would be proud! Once the papers were handed back, Zeke tucked them into the manila folder in his arms and, after reclaiming the pen too, gestured towards the double doors at the back of the lobby as he moved from behind his desk.
"If you're ready, I'll take you to her. Feel free to ask any more questions you have, though the walk won't take more than a few minutes."

"An Ice Rose... and a snowy owl? That seems quite chilly indeed," Phiel murmured softly, though already his mind was working. The house was usually cool for his sake because he preferred remaining covered, so that should not be a problem, right? And if it came down to it, the room that he had prepared for her could have an extra air conditioner installed... Already he was thinking ahead. It seemed a bit too quick, he thought, drawing a deep breath. Patience. He didn't even know whether it was going to be necessary and already he was planning.
Brushing his gloved palms off against the legs of his trousers, Phiel straightened, regarding Zeke with another nod of gratitude as the papers were put away neatly. He appreciated the efficiency with which this place at least appeared to run, though he knew as well as anyone else that appearances were not always the truth. "I believe I have no more questions," he murmured quietly, tucking his hands firmly back into his pockets and straightening.
Wouldn't Kinsey be surprised? Phiel was going to have a charge, too -- a thought that kept his smile slightly more broad than the usual bland pleasantry that settled over his features as a matter of habit. And what's more, she was a being like the insufferably spoiled brat that was Varun. He could only hope, though, that she would resemble that hellion only insofar as the abbreviated torso. If that was not the case, well... truth be told, Phiel would still adore her, though he would not be run over roughshod. Or at least, hopefully. "I am quite ready, if you are, sir," he said, emerging from his thoughts with a slight shake of the head.

Zeke couldn't hear the gears turning in Phiel's head but he was certain they were moving quite well with that bit of possibly correct information hanging in the air. At the mention the other man had no more questions for him Zeke nodded politely, though he was rather down that there were none. He did so enjoy Q and A sessions, they were almost like a game to him in the right atmosphere, even if he didn't have a one hundred percent right answer. At least he could say he tried.
"I'm quite ready as well. I haven't seen her yet myself, so it's exciting for me too." And it showed in the way he beamed at Phiel and the way he eagerly pressed one of the doors open with his free hand, holding it open until his companion for the moment was through. Once Phiel was, Zeke was quick to pick up his steps and lead him down the hall. As they walked, the air started to cool down the farther they were from the lobby. "Sorry if it's a bit chilly back here. The equipment in the lab itself is heat sensitive, so it's kept cooler here than up in the lobby." He looked to Phiel as he spoke, hoping to make light chatter to get a better feel for the new guardian. Polite in mannerisms and snappy in dress is what he got so far and for him, so far that was good. He pulled the folder out from under his arm again, checking to remember which room the new Frei was in. Right around...
"Here we are!" Zeke chirped as he stopped in front of the last door on the right hand side. This room was just before the two sliding, seal-tight doors to the laboratory, though his attention didn't waver from the one. "Simple protocol is this: I'll knock to let her know we're coming in and once I open the door, you'll be the first to go in. It's only right you get to see her first, ya know?" A grin and a wink before he raised his hand to rap on the door. The sound would echo in the room and he did hear movement from within. With a glance over his shoulder to Phiel, Zeke took a deep breath and held down on the latch, pulling the door out toward himself and into the hallway.
"After you Phiel!"

"You haven't seen her either?" Phiel inquired, a brow arching. Surprise had crept into his tone as well, as he followed the indicated path with an excited lilt in his step, letting Zeke outdistance him by a few feet in courtesy, as a nod to his knowledge of the compound. "That is a bit surprising, honestly. I am looking forward to meeting her, too. I imagine you're... almost as curious as I am." In this mood, Phiel was more than willing to connect with Zeke, despite his usual reticence. Excitement, though there was not much in the way of visual cues, relaxed Phiel and made him more open to people in general. "And the temperature is no problem. With as much clothing as I tend to wear," he quipped dryly, "I prefer it a bit cooler. It makes it more comfortable."
A low, quiet hum escaped Phiel as they stopped; he leaned over to peer at the door as he listened to Zeke explain the process, which made quite a lot of sense to him. The doorway and the soft rustling within seemed innocuous, but somehow it held a momentous weight to it in Phiel's eyes. Things would be different, forever changed once he met the being behind that door, right? His life would have to alter, to adjust and fit a housemate. But there was no time for second thoughts, not now.
"Why thank you," murmured the bodyguard with a chuckle, as he slipped into the room. His first impression was that the room was in fact quite sterile, as he ought to have expected from a place that called itself a lab -- the lights were bright, fluorescent, casting a strangely diffuse white glow, a purely non-directional illumination that made everything look oddly as if it was floating, weightless. Just as Phiel was about to comment on it, however, his breath stopped short, because, well, there she was. The reason for his coming here. She looks so fragile, his mind supplied, but then corrected itself. Not fragile. Not... breakable or frail. Strong, but delicate. Feathered and soft and petitely feminine -- at least the decidedly abbreviated areas she possessed -- she invoked a protective feeling in him that Phiel supposed he should have expected, rushing into his chest like warm water.
Slightly away from the center of the room, the pale frei floated, a fine tension in her slender shoulders and hands. Her black, glittering gaze was faintly narrowed, fixed on Phiel as if to see what he would do. The expression on her face was something sharp, something intelligent and predatory, despite the pale softness of her dainty features -- and Phiel, despite himself, fancied that she could look right through him, if she so pleased. He met that gaze, straight-on, drawing a deep breath -- no, definitely not fragile. Newborn, and already with such a bold and striking personality? He let out a soft noise. She was something to be admired and respected.
"Hello," he murmured quietly, offering a small bow and a greeting smile. "I... I am going to take care of you."
The dainty raevan's head tilted, a very slightly birdlike motion, and some of the tension eased from her slender shoulders. Soft, delicate blue lips pursed gently in thought, and her gaze seemed to travel, laser-focused, from the top of Phiel's grey curls down to the bright-polished darkness of his shoes. She was still a moment, and then smiled, ever so faintly, as she moved forward. "Hello," she replied, voice dignified, soft, a low and throaty rasp of a contralto that lent richness and substance to her slender delicate figure. "What is... take care?"

When Phiel posed the question Zeke merely shook his head. He hadn't seen hide nor hair of the older man's future Raevan and it was likely Alex or his mysterious employer had taken care of putting her in the third room before he arrived. The vet nodded to the comment about being curious. He had never met a newborn Frei before - Vyn, Xiu, Zul had been older and more mature, while Cordelia (despite her young age) acted and spoke with a clarity not unlike the first two names. While he knew all Raevans were different - and not just in appearances - this would give him a little experience with how his own pick up might go. Zeke cast his eyes to his left, gazing at the sealed doors to the lab beyond, but before he could even start to linger, Phiel's movements were caught out of the corner of his eye and the pierced vet turned back to his task.
"You're quite welcome." He teased back in a low voice, giving pause for a moment before following the bodyguard into the room. Phiel hadn't stepped in far, so Zeke gave him a gentle poke in the back to move forward so he could shut the door. Once he moved, the door was closed with a soft 'click' of the latch and Zeke turned back around.
What he saw had to be one of the most gorgeous female Raevans in existence.
Skin as pale and pure as snow, large and glassy black eyes, and blue feathers and ribbons as far as the eye could see. Unlike Phiel though, his mind went straight to how lithe she looked and with those ribbons on her arms and the feathers on her brow, her appearance was almost like a ballerina. His curiosity was fed and replaced with that bubbling excitement once more. He looked from the Frei to her awestruck caretaker and back again, chuckling at how blown away the older man was (though he was just as much so).
"She's beautiful." He said, unable to hide that awe and not gawk. Zeke hugged the Ice Rose's file to his chest, beaming though well aware of her gaze. He also made sure to hang back as he sidled over to the desk in the room and set that folder down slowly so to not make a noise or startle her with the sudden action. Once that was set he raised his hand in a fingers-only wave, already forgetting what came next in a pick up and putting off that she still needed a name.
"Hello there. 'Take care' means you're going to go home with Phiel."

"She is beautiful," blurted Phiel, uncharacteristically; his eyes were wide and his smile had broadened, a little foolishly despite his best attempts at dignity. He'd stepped forward when prodded, with a sheepish sound, but other than that he didn't seem inclined to move much for a long moment. She was beautiful -- though the word seemed to pale a bit when applied to her, he thought. Gorgeous, stunning -- all those words that Phiel had only rarely actually considered using out loud -- those were more likely. "A-and yes, he's... right. You will be coming home with me," Phiel said, giving a soft ahem and metaphorically retrieving his jaw from where it had fallen on the floor at the first sight of his new charge. "I... have made an effort to make a comfortable place for you..."
The pale frei's head tilted a bit and she glanced between Phiel and the other man, subdued curiosity settling over her pretty features as she moved closer to Phiel, hesitantly setting one delicate, pale hand atop his strong shoulder and evoking a shiver from him. "Bright," she murmured curiously as she peered at Zeke, her dainty brow furrowing as she reached out, pointing. "Who is?" Her voice was soft, and her eyes quietly wary, if curious.
"Oh -- oh. That is Zeke, who works here," Phiel said, suddenly very aware of the chill of her hand on his shoulder, the cold seeping down through the layers of cloth. "And I am Phiel... your guardian."
She paused a moment, blinking slowly; some of the frost seemed to fade from her touch, and she nodded, a dainty motion. "Phiel," she murmured, settling it into her memory, as she turned her liquid, dark gaze up to her guardian for a moment and favored him with a brief flicker of a smile. "Hello, Zeke," she said, a bit offhandedly as she flicked her eyes toward him, wings shifting with the soft sound of ice and feathers rustling. Her smile was a small thing, but it did not fade.

He suppressed a chuckle as the older man gawked more than himself and seemed completely at a loss for words. Zeke lingered by the desk, dropping his wave and wrapping his arms across his chest. Seemed that she was able to make the room just a little bit chillier and he was in a regular blue t-shirt whose color seemed dark compared to the owl Frei. The vet watched her movement; the way her ribboned wings lightly flickered and sent her forward slowly, curiously toward her new caretaker. When her gaze was directed at him Zeke felt that same feeling Phiel had - that she could look right through him, through anyone, should she so choose. The single word she chose to comment on his appearance made Zeke laugh, shaking his mohawked head and casting his ponytail over his shoulder when he stopped.
"Seems she knows a few words already." He said, looking at the plastic, colored tab that stuck up the back side of the folder. Her soul and Essence were delicately typed on the paper inside along with her date of birth. "She's about a month old now. Her birthday is the fifteenth of February." Most likely she had been kept nearby, but Zeke was actually quite surprised he hadn't seen her. Then again, he hadn't seen Ekundayo either and she was most definitely kept in the Lab. As Phiel introduced him and Zeke was greeted on an offhanded, he realized one thing. He leaned over and tugged on the older man's sleeve, drawing his attention to him for just the moment.
"I think it's time she got her name, eh? That way she can be greeted properly from now on." Zeke pulled out the pen and flipped through the folder to the forms Phiel had signed. He'd take care of this so the bodyguard didn't have to move. Looking at him, if he attempted to move now, he might just fall to the floor from the shock and loss of feeling in his body. Plus, it best to not keep either of them waiting. This Raevan was due to go home and it should be sometime before the sun went down. He pulled the pen cap off, shifting it to his left hand and jerking it with a faint flourish.
"And the lovely lady's name is...?"

The white frei's head tilted, those disarming eyes flickering between the two men curiously. Though she wanted to, she could not quite understand everything that was being said, though she caught much of it at least in a gisted form. Her expression did not entirely speak of pleasure, though she seemed contented enough to linger near her guardian for the moment, making him shiver as the temperature stayed frostier than he'd expected. "Name," she murmured quietly, looking expectantly up at Phiel -- her tone was quiet, but almost carried an air of demand. Now that she had become aware of the existence of such things, she too wanted a name. The bright man was Zeke, she supposed, and the grey one -- the one that was hers -- was Phiel. She had figured out that far at least, and didn't she deserve one too?
"Ah," said Phiel, chuckling quietly as he looked at her ruefully. The fifteenth of February... the day after Valentine's. It seemed to him oddly fitting for this lovely, chilly ice-maiden, just barely born after the most romantic day of the year. He had to think about it, rolling through his mental database of names. None of them quite seemed to suit her -- but there was a character he had seen in a movie, once, who had been nearly as pale... Sure, it had been filmed in black and white, of the film noir persuasion, but...
"Zurine," said Phiel, when he was prompted, looking up to Zeke with a smile. "Her name will be Zurine. If she approves, of course." His grey gaze flicked over, settling on her pretty face, which seemed to scrunch lightly in thought. Her lips pursed softly, and her nose twitched slightly.
"Zu-ri-ne," she said softly, letting each syllable rest on her tongue a moment, feeling the weight of them and how they felt in her mouth as if she could feel the very letters. "Yes."
A low chuckle escaped Phiel, and he smiled, pleased with himself. "It would seem that she concurs... Zurine it is, then?"

Ink from the pen tip was waiting at the moment's press, Zeke's head turning between the paper on the desk and the two figures to his left. He could wait as long as it took for Phiel to come up with something suitable and he had to wonder if, despite his office poll, he'd be stuck in the same position when his was born. Despite being a few solid steps away from Phiel and the icy femme, Zeke was also feeling the chill that rolled naturally off her quarter figure. If the bodyguard hadn't said he preferred the cooler climates and that his home was kept that way all the time, the veterinarian figured the Raevan could do that just as well on her own. Unable to detect Phiel's shivering he could tell they were already a good match.
"Zurine, her name will be Zurine. If she approves, of course."
As Phiel gave his decision, Zeke looked just as quickly to the Frei. The smile flickered as she slowly sounded out the syllable. Would she deem it good for her? Saying the name aloud in his head over and over as Phiel pronounced it, he deemed it fit just right. It seemed to have an iciness to it, a ring that made one think 'blue' which fit her well. Of course, this was just his opinion. He wouldn't be an influence - just a bystander - unless prompted. If he was, though, he'd likely flounder, as Zeke was never one to come up with a good name on the spot. It seemed he didn't have to worry though, the Frei - Zurine - agreed to the title.
"Z-U-R-I-N-E..." He spelled it out as he wrote, hoping the letters matched up with his phonetic interpretation. The pen made a light scratching as he pressed a little harder than needed, trying to make sure the name was in readable block print rather than his own chicken scratch. He capped the pen and stood straight again when done. "Zurine it is." He looked to the Frei. "Pleasure to meet you, Zurine." He waited for a return greeting before looking to her caretaker once more.
"I know I asked you before we came in here, but given the situation I figure it wouldn't hurt to ask again. Any questions? Comments? Concerns?" He'd answer what was asked, like always, but he couldn't deny there was a part of him that hoped there were none so he could then send the two on their way to Zurine's new home and life. Everything had gone so smoothly till now and he didn't want to delay Phiel or the Ice Rose their first time together without his presence following right after or hanging around in an extended way.

After a moment, satisfied, Zurine looked up at Zeke again -- she was deeply pleased with her name, and a faint smile settled across her features. It was less a curve of lips and more a general expression, a slight softening around the eyes, a faint rise of delicate brows. She was happy, now; she had gotten what she wanted, and it had been easy. Would all her goals be so simple to accomplish? It was too early to tell, but she could see in Phiel's eyes that it was highly unlikely. "Pleasure to meet you," she parroted softly, bobbing gently in what was almost, almost a rather pretty, well-mannered curtsy.
"I do not believe," said Phiel, casting his eyes upward as if to rummage for any lingering questions he might have, "that I have any more questions. However, I am prone to forgetting them on occasion. Does this institution have a phone number that I can call if there happens to be a problem I require help with?" Despite himself and his confidence, Phiel had always been one to cover as many bases as possible, and for something as important as Zurine, that meant he could not be prepared enough.

She was just so cute! The way she smiled - faint, but there! - and that curtsy! She was quite the young lady, both in appearance and in mannerisms. Her parroted words made him proud she had picked up on something he had said and it was likely she would use them in the future. Zeke felt a giddy sense of pride at that possible fact. Phiel was quite the lucky man and even though he had spent the entire duration of the pick up behind the desk in the room this was his first pick up ever, so he did feel a sense of protection towards this Frei. The bodyguard better take care of her, especially with what her file detailed. Her life might start out a little hard, especially if Lucretia had many friends.
"A phone number? Certainly!" He packed up the folder and tucked it under his arm again, gesturing toward the door. "There's business cards out on the receptionist's desk. If you don't mind we can leave this room, get you the card, and then I'd say you're ready to take Zurine home with you." He started moving without being prompted, drawing as close to the new Frei as he had gotten this entire time. Zeke gave Phiel a pat on the shoulder and let himself out of the room first, holding the door wide open for the human and his Raevan to exit. Once both were out, he guided the door back to its frame and the latch once more made that tell-tale 'click' of being in place.
"This way please." He chirped, already turning on his heel with his ponytail flailing with the motion. Like when they were coming down this way and Phiel had kept a few feet back, Zeke made sure to keep his pace a couple steps ahead of the pair. With his attention deviated towards the lobby, they could have a hallway's length of time to get a feel for each other - spoken or not. The more he walked towards the front, the warmer the air turned and soon natural light was filtering through the windows of the doors that separated the lobby from this part of the Lab. One of the two was held open once again for the pair and Zeke moved to his shared desk with the door gliding back into place without a sound.
"This number here is the every day use line." He said as he pulled a business card from its collective holder and tapped one set of numbers with the signing pen. "The one below it here is an emergency call line; used for when something's gone drastically wrong with your Raevan or within the Lab itself and people need to get into fast contact with Dr. Kyou or the rest of the staff." This was the number for the answering machine that all those guardians had pretty much blown up with phone calls during the peak of the virus infection. He also pointed out fax and email addresses, neglecting the Lab's physical address since that was pretty much granted. Zeke handed the card over to Phiel, eyes turning toward the Frei. He had to squint, the sunlight bouncing off her skin just as hard to look at as sunlight reflecting off snow or still water.
"And I think that about does it. All Zurine's paperwork is set and your name and address will be added to the guardian roster as soon as possible. Ahh..." He paused, a hand raising to rub the beard on his chin for anything else. He wasn't missing anything was he? No, all the bases seemed to be covered quite well. "If anything comes up, feel free to call or stop by. Someone should always be here whether it be Alex, myself, or any other staff member." Another smile was flashed at both beings before him and Zeke gestured toward the door that was sealing off this world of sterility and science from the large, open one that the Ice Rose would soon be a part of once again. This time for the better.
"Take good care of her Phiel," he looked at Zurine too, giving the owl a wink. "And you take care of him too. He's your guardian now."
