In the beginning there was only One, the whole, the center.
From it came a titan bird of fire and ember, a phoenix that was the entity Life. Forever circling in a widening gyre, Its birth and death begin to intertwine until they were One. The beating of its colossal wings became the rising day and falling night, its luminosity the sustainer. In Its shining glory within a world of shadows, came arrogance and pride. Wild and loose, He slit and from it, a crimson ribbon of blood sacrificed to bind His creation.

Then came the Children of the One.
Seven chosen to control the eldest born, together the demigods of this World.
Those from One became the Court of the Lesser Gods.

The first from the liquid embers of the beast, sculpted in the shape of his Creator. Unrelenting, His nemesis sent demons to devour him, until His intervention saved only the charred heart. He then ate the heart and kept his child within for seven days of frozen night. On the last, carved on His left arm in an inscription of fire came the first. The twice-born Arpiedes.

The second was born from contradiction, fashioned from the light and darkness surrounding Him. The child mutated in His hands with a mind of its own, splitting into two halves that bubbled with energy. He brought them to the newly formed world, allowing them to take shape. The mischievous two split into three, then to One, one male the other female. One floated away to another world, whilst the other glided down and became Bastet.

Second to last. A premature birth, in all possibility. The Creator had taken a miniscule fraction of His core and jutted it out into His invisible forces, meaning to shape it until there was divine life emanating. But life was already swirling around this existence. To contain it, He coated on as if fashioning a prized doll His paternal love, and planted the yet nonreactive seeds of miracles onto the backside. The finishing piece was the mask of mystery, artfully crafted from the threads of connections that the Creator knotted and loosened every so often. And so, Quevon was exposed to the world, beating wings as soon as consciousness took rise.

The last was conceived of cloud from the breath of the Creator, the personification of His fragility and tenderness. Destined to see beyond physical representation, but lacking the intended emotion. She was flawed, but still His child whom he would care for no matter the consequence. Light as the air, Skuld floated down to the world that would be sculpted.

Barren and desolate was the World he first laid eyes upon.

The crackle of fire and smell of soot surrounded him, gently stinging his clear emerald vision. As he stood, Arpiedes felt the overwhelming flow of the cycle course through him, each brush with knowledge robbing him of innocence. Beneath his feet were dried molten rock, the once brilliant feathers of flames slowed in its imprisonment.

Pitying his kin, Arpiedes took hold of an ashen rock, crushed it to form powder, then blew softly across his now open palm. The specks of dust drifted every which way, appearing to multiply, their numbers increasing as they spiralled above him. When their flight finally ended, with each piece returning to the hearth as the cracked surface began to sprout life. Rows among rows of beautiful roses grew between the crevices, accompanied by untamed grass and red soil. They continued to stretch across the exteriour of the World until there was nothing but flora in sight. However, they were poorly constructed and built with mischievous intention; the roses adorning thorns, the grass actually weeds, and the soil emitting a manipulative fragrance.

A light, airy smile grazed his face, breathing in the intoxicating scent with evident delight. His hair of flames fell into slumber with the World, forming into strands of polished mahogany. They fell on to his exposed skin, fair and rosy like that of his precious roses, but strong was his build like that of their thorns. As he contemplated the time he was given, the demigod licked his lips with shameless excitment.

The brilliant luminosity that was his blood was no more.

She lay on the ground, nestled in the wild grass, curled like a fetus. The eyes of the demigoddess opened staring at the world blankly. At first nothing was seen as her mind became enriched with fountains of knowledge. Her pale lips parted in a smile. she lett every pore of her body fill with light and dark. When the flood of knowledge had stopped, she allowed her mind to explore the world. She saw her brother had created the flora. She stood and stretched, only her tail and ears betraying her race.

Armed with her first task in mind, she excitedly ran her fingers through the air. Stroking hypnotically, she caught strands of light and dark between her fingers. She began to dance allowing the strands to intertwine together. She added a pinch of soil and touched it with air. The strands grew thinner until they began to break off into different chunks. When they landed on the thorns of the roses and weeds, they grew into people. All sorts of people of various sizes. The other strands, which touched the red soil became the animals. With that she smiled.

The youngest awoke amidst a flurry of wind. She lay naked amongst the weeds that must have been created by one of her siblings sprawling to get away from the gust, but alas, the fresh earth forbade them leave.

A small creature, one that could easily sit in the palm of her hand, scurried by. She raised her arms and calmed the wind and with a gentle whisper called the creature over. She would come to call this creature a mouse, a likely other creation of her siblings'. It wasn't until she saw the creature covered in hair that she became aware of her own nakedness. She felt not the cold, but felt as if she lacked something by not being granted the fur this creature had.

She called forth the wind and brought down the clouds. The mouse hurried away in fright. Fright, something she would one day come to comprehend. With a few waves of her hand and a look of childish delight, she created for herself clothing. A simple long flowing loincloth and bra. Enough to make her feel as if she fit in with this world's creatures, and little enough as to not restrict her movements.

The weedy grass was already beginning to wither, devoid of sustenance. Skuld picked a blade of grass and crumpled it in her palm. A look to the sky brought about a formation of clouds. Casting the dust of the dried grass to the sky, the clouds grew dark. What was to be called rain began to fall, replenishing the moisture in the world.

Sensing the presence of the others, Arpiedes grew curious at both their creations and his kin. The thundering clouds that cast a curtain of rain upon the dazed creatures called men, who made their stupidity known by walking on two feet like that of the demigods. They were presenting a challenge, continuing to advance toward him in blind recognition, however he was not the one to punish their insolence. Instead, he painted a sly smile across the blank canvas of expression as his hands plucked strands of deep scarlet, allowing each hair to solidify into a needle thin dart.

Why not gift them with the passion they sorely lacked? Give them the direction and purpose that pretentious creatures needed to justify their existence. With one fluid flick of the wrist the darts were sent flying, hitting the herd of men before him. This, in combination with the alluring scent of roses that haunted the air, were more than enough to send the creatures into a frenzy. As Arpiedes took flight upon the clouds of flames, he could hear the instinctive roar of men succumbed to lust.

His speed allowed the deity to reach his destination quickly as directed by an internal compass. Spotting one of his own, Arpiedes descended with spurs of fire clinging to his ankles. She was not at all what he imagined, dressed in a coat of onyx fur and large luminous eyes that rivaled those of the Oracle. Yet this was exactly what he craved, to have his curiosity grow and be satisfied. In a somewhat hasty introduction, the demigod approached his sibling in light and fleeting steps, appearing seated by her side in a matter of seconds with his speed. The distance that separated them left little to the imagination as nearly all of the fur on her arm was making contact with a part of his skin. He at first, had no such intention. However it was not innocence that lead his mind astray but intrigue.

Allowing his hand to touch the side of her face in delicate exploration, Arpiedes finally spoke. While giving off a smoky scent similar to that of incenses, he asked in a low and distracted voice,

"What is your name?"

In the distance, Skuld heard the hungry roar of men, but not the hunger for food. Their minds were set; they needed sexual satisfaction, and without delay. They seemed to be able to sense Skuld's presence nearby. Perhaps lured by the scent of a young woman. Something they had never experienced; a new and exciting aroma.

As the men neared, she saw the lust in their eyes, their terrible intent. Surely this had to be the work of one of her sinister siblings. But why would they create such monsters?

They were a large group, all driven by lust. All wanting to take this seemingly helpless demi-goddess. They worshipped her in their minds, not knowing that she really was what they fancied her to be. Each look to their neighbour and witness the identical intesity in their individual faces. They couldn't all have her. There would be one.

And thus began the first war of man.

She watched the men bury themselves in lust. She licked her lips in distaste at their savage motions. She wondered if she wove too much earth into their bones. As she contemplated the situation, she spotted her sibling flying towards her. His eyes fixed with the same look as their creations. His speed, although startling, confirmed her suspicions.

Her fur tingled at contact and a shiver ran though her. She let him stroke her, a half-smile playing on her lips, her eyes closed slightly. His voice entranced her, awakening her inner desires. She began to understand. Her lips gently grazed his before pulling back. A teasing smile followed before she had pulled herself out of his arms completely. She circled him, her tail brushing against his ankles. Her fingers traced his collarbone as she moved her face close to his ears. Her lips caressed them as she whispered, "Bastet."

Then she moved back swiftly, her teasing smile still mocking him.

"Now, what is yours my naughty brother?"

Allowing the female's touch, Arpiedes recieved her pleasant response with a playful air despite the clarity behind his eyes. The demigod enjoyed the sensations thoroughly, though at this point he was much more intrigued than wanting. The latter could simply come later. However, she continued in her performance, attempting to pull away his reason in order to leave only blind passion. Instead, only an elusive smile graced his surprisingly tame features.

"Arpiedes." An effortless voice spoke, contrasting the inviting fragrance surrounding him. Marked only by the hazy trails of smoke, Arpiedes moved with unseen speed behind Bastet. Savouring the competitive atmosphere, his breath traced an invisible trail down her neck, those lips a hair's width from her fur. "I was not quite finished with you." There was an underlying tone of challenge in his words, lightly tinged with a hint of danger. As if ravished, his hands began to wander, eventually reaching her soft underbelly before pulling her to his unclothed body. "Tell me Bastet," He purred in mockery, "Why create such useless creations?" His hands forced her body even closer, as if to imprint her to him.

"After all...they seem only think of one thing..."

Arpiedes laughed whimsically under his breath, and he was gone.

His smile caught her off guard. It was free of what she had been expecting. Her eyes twinkled in amusement as his name imprinted in her mind. Arpiedes

His lips pulled her out of her animal senses, luring her back into human form. She resisted at first pulling away until she heard his challenge. She relaxed allowing him to caress her, feeling his heated skin press into her back. She let the sensations envelop her and understood what she needed.

"Tell me Bastet, why create such useless creations? After all...they seem only think of one thing..."

A soft chuckle leaped out of her mouth. The sound grew till it rumbled like a waterfall. Tears flowed out her eyes freely as she laughed. Once she had stopped and realized he was gone she yelled, "For amusement."

Then she gazed at the humans, still savagely attacking. She shook her head, she knew what they needed, but they would have to earn it first.

As she turned to walk away, she suddenly realized that she had shifted. She no longer had her fur coat or tail, instead she turned human. She sighed and cursed Arpiedes then walked away.

The creatures resembled her form but lacked her senses. They were stupid. Single-minded. They tumbled, one over another. Blood splattered the fresh green of the ground as their bodies connected with ferocity.

"So uncivilised."

She was surrounded on all sides by these creatures, each fighting for her. Skuld summoned a protective whirlwind around her in order to free herself from the war. She caught the sound of a voice off of one of the gusts collecting about her. "For amusement?" The voice sounded oddly familiar to her, even though she knew she had never heard such a voice before. She felt a connection to the voice. A smile formed on her young face. "There you are."

She walked in the direction the gust had come from. Men were forced back by the wind, but none realised what was happening. They were so engulfed in their own duelings that they did not notice their prize slipping away.

Watching the men fight, Arpiedes found himself barely entertained by their redundant behaviour. Striking clumsily, attempting to dodge, eventually leading to an ungraceful fall and a deathly blow through the chest. Irritated with their stupidity, the demigod decided to end this meaningless bloodshed. With the slightest wave of his hand, a fumbling mortal began to float toward the sky where Arpiedes laid waiting. This man was fairer than the others, his intelligence could be noted in his battle strategies and his beauty inspiring. As he ascended, the creature could feel the overwhelming presence of a superiour being, and began to shield his brilliant eyes from its light. Arpiedes was pleased to see that he had not chosen wrong, his own emerald eyes darkening. Perhaps Bastet's last words were indeed true, man could be amusing after all.

"Your name." His voice seemed to seep into the man's thoughts rather than be heard through the ears. With no hesitation the human replied calmly with his eyes still downcast, "Levi." Arpiedes let a loose smile cross his lips as he raised Levi's chin with a delicate finger. He once again, attempted to avoid his gaze but found that he could not resist the demigod's provocation. As his baby blue eyes set their gaze upon him, the man could barely take in the beauty he witnessed. Long flowing strands of mahogany, a fair and gentle expression and eyes that aroused the most basic of emotions. However, Levi suppressed his passions and did so with a surprisingly strong will, one that stood above the rest of his kind. The demigod nearly laughed at his reaction; this mortal clearly did not belong in such a war since his virginal thoughts were swayed only by Arpiedes's spell.

"Levi..." He spoke, a voice that sent tingles down the spine and quickened his already fleeting heartbeat. Man could only resist temptation for so long, as even the best of them sharing the most basic of weaknesses. Descending to a shadowed grove, Levi was taken with a fervor so great that his body nearly fell apart with pleasure, his cries of ecstacy rivalling the war cries of his brethren. Covered in lewd bites that evidenced their passions, the demigod licked the wounds and spat out the blood. From that, a bewitching presence was born of Levi's most elegant qualities and his hidden passion.

Woman.

Bastet was perched on top of a jagged cliff observing the humans from the distance. She had shifted into her lioness form completely. Her luminous eyes unblinking. Watching. She would wait before meddling with them. They needed to gain intelligence before she could play with them. But they seemed to get tired after the constant battles. They were starting to establish alliances which would soon develop into nations. She let a teethed smile follow her thoughts.

As she watched she could feel a presence approaching her. It was similar to her brother's, but fresher. Her essence still tasted like innocence. She could see her walking towards her. She waited patiently.
