He walked and walked, his wings hunge heavily around him and his hair bounced around him. How could his brother have ripped out his heart? He felt empty, missing. He was fed up with his life why did his brother always get what he wanted? And why did it have to be at his expence? He was so annoyed that it was blinding him. Yet he remained calm on the outside he wouldn't give his brother the satisfaction of such a thing.

A soft sweet smell drifted towards him and he turned his head to find an apple tree. Making his way towards it he used his wings to flutter to the closest fruit and grab it between his teeth before landing once more to eat it.

As she grew older, so did her curiosity and her boldness. While she would normally stay within or near herd territory, Fleurite had started to wander further and further away, although she would always return home before it grew too dark; she was curious about the world after sunset but even she knew that it would be a bad idea for a filly to be out alone so late at night. Wiggling her wings, she realized that while her body had grew, her wings hadn't - she gave a soft sigh; maybe she won't even be able to glide anymore.

Although she was preoccupied with her own thoughts, the smell of apples captured her attention and she found herself trotting in the direction. When she was younger, her wings gave her enough lift to grab an apple off the higher branches... But now, as she stood at the foot of the tree, Fleurite frowned as she stared up at the fruit that was out of her reach... So abprbed in trying to think of a good way to reach it that she failed to realize that there was someone else there.

Ronin ate the apple quickly, it snapped and crunched under the pressure of his jaw releasing the juices and flesh to his tastebuds. Swallowing hard he let out a contented sigh. That was such a nice fruit that he was tempted by more. Smiling he looked up at the tree but then a sound caught his attention and distracted him. His eyes instantly lowered from the tree, and as he expected to she his brother or his.... he couldn't even bring himself to think it, he was shocked to see someone different. He took in her details, she too was a fluttercorn, he hadn't met many of them. He colourful wings looked to small to sustain flight yet her build was smaller than his own. The colours of her body swirled and danced over her pelt in the light and brought a soft smile to his lips. It was obvious she was younger than him. Youth and innocence. What a refreshing combination after the betrayal of his brother.

Walking slowly towards he so not to scare her he spoke, "Hello there." He looked to the tree, "Do you need a helping hoof?"

Despite his efforts, she was still surprised by the sudden greeting from the stallion. Turning around quickly to face him so as not to be rude, she nodded slowly as she blushed, "Hel-Hello... And I wou-would like that..." She offered him a smile, although it was still obvious that she was still surprised, "Sorry... I didn't see you jus-just now..." She turned her attention back to the tree, specifically the shiny apple that she had been eyeing; it would be rude to ask for a specific apple since he had been nice enough to help... She would have to trust that he's a good apple picker!

Now that her attention was fully on the stallion, she realized that like her, she had the horn and tail of a unicorn but the wings of a flutter... But unlike hers, his wings were actually proportionate to his body, just like her sister's. She felt a slight pang of envy, but she knew that it was a fact that could not be changed. Besides, she felt happy that she at least got a taste of what it was like when she was younger... That had to be better than those who were born without wings, right? She was in fact, a lucky one.

He smiled softly and looked at the tree again trying to figure out which one she had been eyeing up, there was one that was particularly shiny and another that was a very deep red colour.... taking a guess he nodded to her before jumping and using his wings to help him flutter towards the shiny one before he grabbed it softly between his teeth and pulled it to free it before he returned to her side. "This one?" He cocked his head to look at her, oh how he longed to be innocent again, not to want love, not to want to be with someone... just to... be! He hated his brother right now, the pain still lingered so thick in his chest that he was sure nothing would ever fill it again.

Yet here was a creature that stuttered in surpise, sweet and gentle and not yet aware of the true pain of the world. Oh how he wished he could protect her from it, he didn't want anyone to have to experience what he did right now. It cut deep.

"Don't worry about not seeing me." He offered her a small smile, "Our kind," he paused before continuing, maybe she wouldn't class herself the same as him? "...are very good at moving in near silence. Its because we are so light!" Or at least that had been what his parents always told him and Kisho.

Her eyes widened in surprise when he took the exact one that she had been eyeing, beaming fondly at the stallion as he returned, "Th-Thank you! How did you know I wanted that one?" She giggled, wondering if he was some sort of mind-reader... And thinking how great a story it would make. She sniffed at teh apple, making sure that it wasn't rotten within before bowing her head, taking a small bite out of the fruit. Juice trickled down her maw but she ignored how sticky and uncomfortable it felt, instead choosing to savour the taste of the apple. After swallowing, Fleurite smiled happily; the shiny ones were always sweet and juicy!

Taking another bite out of the apple, she listened to the other before giggling again, "That makes sense! Its the flutter in us, maybe!" She smiled; although she had never met her father, she was sure that he had to be a flutter... Where else would the wings come from? She paused as she swallowed her second bite, blushing again as she remembered that she had forgotten to introduce herself - names are very important, and she didn't even ask for his even though he had helped her!

"My name is Fleurite but everyone calls me Fleur," She smiled apologetically at the male, "What is your name?"

He shrugged his shoulders softly as she asked him how he knew, he had simply guessed. Picking the one he was more likely to pick for himself. "Good guess" he gave her another small smile, although part of him really wanted to beam a smile at him it just didn't seem to want to come forth, like part of him was pulling back and keeping it all hidden within. It felt strange not being his usual happy self.

He nodded at her, for as long as he could remember his parents and grandparents had all been fluttercorns, though at one point in time there must have been unicorns and flutters who had come together. What a shame that no one was alive to tell him. "Yay for flutter genes." he offered softly before accepting her name. Fleurite, what a pretty name. It was unusual to his ears soft and elegant yet with a sharpness that he couldn't place his hoof on. Nice.

He hesitated before gifting his own name, not because he didn't want her to know but because of the legends he had been brought up on. if someone knew your name they could use it to hurt you, the spirits of the world twisted and turned through life connecting each creature through their names. That was why he was careful with it. Yet as he admired her innocence he knew she would not betray him, "My name is Ronin. It is a pleasure to meet you Fleor!" He paused before adding, "Did I pronounce that correctly?"

She took a bigger bite off the apple as she finished it, unable to stop smiling as she munched on the apple, enjoying how it crunches in her mouth, and how the juice squirts out with every bite. She licked her lips, her hunger and thirst satisfied for the time being. Looking up at the stallion, she saw how he hesitated but smiled when he did said his name. Acknowledging it with a bow of her head, Fleurite replied, "And its a pleasure to meet you, Ronin! Its a rather unique name." She commented with a nod, wondering if he was from these parts too.

"Its close enough," She giggled softly; it had been a while since she had met someone who could not say her name properly, "Fleur - it sounds a little like floor, doesn't it? But it means flower... I'm not sure where my mother got it from though."

"Fl-eur, Flo-or" He said both words softly outloud before repeating it over and over in his mind as to not make a fool of himself in the future. "I apologise for getting it slightly wrong." He offered her a soft smile before commenting on his own name, "Ronin.... I believe it is from my mothers old land, however she didn't live long enough to tell me much about it." The memory of her death still hung heavily over him, that was the main reason why he had done as his parents had asked and stayed in their homeland, although he never understood why they wanted it. Kisho always said they only said that because they where so small and young when they passed and they never intended them to stay there forever -or maybe that was simply what he said to support why he left. Though perhaps he was right? After all had he not also left.... though under different circumstances, he couldn't stand to be around Kisho right now.

"Your mother made a beautiful choice though." He added in an attempt to deflect her from thinking too much on what he had said about his own name.

"It's fine," Fleurite replied with a nod, giving him a smile when he got it right, "And your mother made a good choice too! I can't explain it, but... Well, you look like a Ronin to me." Secretly, she had always wondered if names had anything to do with how a foal would grow up. For example, if she had a different name, would she have a different personality? If so, would she thus have different ambitions and dreams right now? The filly smiled at the thought; maybe that's part of the reason why she had always thought that names were such important things - it not only gives someone an identity, but it is also a vital part of a person.

"Of course I do!" He smiled softly, the connection between names and who they where was obvious and part of the reason why names shouldn't be shared too lightly. "Just like you are a Fleur.... the spirits connect everything." He said before looking around, he had no idea where he was all he knew was that in anger he had walked as far as his hooves would carry him.

"Do you know...." he paused and closed his eyes as if trying to hear it, "if there is water near here?" His throat was dry after his walk.

"The spirits..." She echoed softly; she knew that many Soquilis are believers of the spirits, that they are ever present and that they effect the lives of every Soquili. However, personally, she didn't know if she believed in them at all... They seem like such an abstract idea, after all! The idea that there is a higher power at work is too much for a filly like her to comprehend at the moment... Perhaps when she's an adult, she would be able to accept the idea more readily.

When he spoke again, she inclined her head towards him, musing over his question; in her head, she begun to retrace her steps, wondering where she had last seen a source of water. After a slight pause, Fleurite's eyes lit up as she exclaimed, "Oh! There is a river nearby! I can show you to it if you like?" She offered with a smile, glad that she might be able to be of some help.

Ronin smiled widely back at the youths bright smile, it was enough to brighten up his otherwise miserable day. And as he looked upon her smile he felt something strange -the knowlegde that he wanted to the one who would bring that smile to her face again and again. "A river...." He chuckled softly, "it seems I found the right soquili then. I would love for you to show me little Fleur."

Something about the innocence of his companion soothed his rage and anger, he didn't understand why maybe it was just because he was in the company of someone who didn't bow to his brothers every whim -someone that actually didn't even know of his brother. He smiled at the mere thought of that. Looking at the little girl again he spoke once more, "I hope I am not distracting you from your day? I am sure you had many adventures planned."

"Oh! N-no, no, its fine!" She smiled, blushing a little as she wiggled her wings, "I don't have anything planed for the day... Besides, this is a sort of adventure too, right?" It isn't everyday that she meets someone new, and meeting someone from a foreign land is even rarer! To her, meeting Ronin was the most exciting thing to happen to her for the week... And to think it only happened because she was attracted to the smell of apples!

"Come with me," Fleur smiled, trotting past the stallion and moving towards the direction she came from. Then, checking to see that the stallion was ready, she sped off into the forest, towards the river; perhaps she could use a drink herself... There is still so much she wants to talk about!
