History

It is said that long before the plague existed Westfall. It's city was glorious and it's member immense, with substantial advances in healing properties and magical born. They were a reclusive lot, the dragons of Westfall, but the rumors about their beauty rang true. Never before had a larger group of brightly colored dragons, those with yellow and white pelts, come together with dressed in the finest of jewels that could ever have been discovered.

At first, these dragons were suspicious of their cousins. They had doubts and questions that couldn't be answered by the withstanding Maman. It was her Courtesan that gave hope to the people.

"We must trust in them as they trust in each other."

Many years after they gave their jewels freely to their brethren in exchange for the food their elevated lands sorely lacked. It was still mysterious to the others, however, that these magnificent strangers had added horns to their faces. Some had only one extra, while others had many, sometimes with horned brows!

As beautiful as they were, they withheld a stoney coldness that seeped into their coversations. These dragons did not have humor, nor did they find the need for company. They merely worked until their jobs were done and slept, awaiting the cycle to continue.

When the Maman died, her Heir, Opum, took over. With her mates by her side, she reigned for a good while before the great flood hit.

Plague never touched the lands. A great and powerful storm like they had never heard of before swept over the valley and raised the river to dangerous heights. Opum tried her best to ralley her subjects, to save their lives as they begged of her, but when her own Heir was swept away, she felt defeated.

The storm raged for many moons, rising with each day until the lower subfloors had all but flooded out. Those who stayed gained a weakness that harbored their actions, eventually claiming their lives in the end.

Opum circled the bowl on it's upper most ledge. She had heard from her own mate that the archway was stopped up and that was why the water held even after the rains had stopped. With the last of her strength, she dived under the waters and freed it.

The day of Opum's death, the first rainbow shined across the valley.

Area layout

*Could really use a map.

Deep within the swampy valley called Darkroot is a large cave with many stones sharpened over the years to precise points. It's ominous, with only one sign to show that something deeper lies beyond; a set of tiny crystals pressed into the wall to form an intricate pattern.

When stepped through the cave provides many obstacles and has multiple traps set up by those who live beyond. Covered pitfalls, hidden bogs that can swallow a whole dragon, and even tunnels that could have one lost for days.

If your lucky enough to break beyond this point, your taken through the waterfall of Maman Opum's river in the center the pack's territory. The river directly bisect's small weathered out fields that hold little shubbery and on either side great walls of stone form a large bowl.

Within the cliff's very walls are caves for the families that live within. Their are small ledges and well placed logs that allow the caves to connect to the two stone bridges that cross to the adjoining 'homes'. One stone bridge, however, has long since cracked in half and hangs mid-way over the river while it's other half juts up at a leveled angle to the Maman's cave.
(There is a stone bridge, that with much hard work, has been constructed with mix-matched boulders and bits of log. It serves it's purpose and is wide enough that two dragons may pass each other comfortably while travelling across it.)

(It is known that neither the cave placement, nor the bridges are in any kind of order and are very rough. Some caves measure many dragons length as their width while some barely cover one. As a family grows in size, they are given the larger living arrangements while single males usually take up the tinier ones.)

The river takes you through a stone archway that breaks from the bowl to the very mountains beyond and the private forested area belonging to the pack. It's littered with the groups ruins, as well as memorials for the dead that have passed on.

Moonbrook is a tiny, well protected area within the bowl that is set off to the side by it's single tree where the nannie's take their charges. As is it's name, their is a brook that wiggles past.

Sentinel Hill is a large hill about a mile away from the main den area. It's a large grassy knoll with lots of little flowery knocks and trees. This is where the pack's ceremonies are held.

Beliefs

Mating is a sacred union that binds two dragons together from their souls. To be mated within the pack, they must have the Maman's permission and as one they must choose a male for breeding purposes. This will solidify their union and the continuation of their line.

While the triforce mating is preferred, simple female matings are allowed. If they wish to seek out a gaurdian for eggs, all the better for them.

Males are not allowed to officially mate until a female pair has chosen him. While male/male relationships are frowned upon, they are part of the norm for the unchosen elders.

Breeding is a consiquence of life. Though some may view it in loving terms, the group sees it as another chance to add to their numbers. Females may breed at any time they wish so long as they keep up with their natural duties.

If she cannot, however, the eggs/children will be taken away from her and given to a nanny with her natural mothering rights being stripped.

Pelt coloring is an important scale system in Westfall. It is believed that the brighter colors denote the purity of a soul and that white is the symbol of the original founder herself. Darker colors such as blacks/browns/grays will most likely be shunned and as a general rule any male born with such is not allowed to breed unless he proves himself early on. If he cannot, he will be dispatched from the pack.

Like, highly skilled brightly colored dragons are looked up to most, then highly skilled dully colored dragons, then lazy brightly colored dragons, then lazy dully colored dragons. And the lazy brightly colored dragons would be seen as big fat disappointments while the lazy dully colored dragons would be seen as nothing more than expected. Or something like that. ~Kit

Males are a subspecies that are allowed to exist within the pack for breeding purposes only. Some females like the attention of their chosen pets, but at no such time are the males to be given equal rights. They are here serve under their mistresses' and provide them with young only.

When a male gets out of line, he will be reprimended by the task force and if his behavior continues or, heaven forbid, he insights a riot all males included will be executed.

They also live in the lower, smaller caves closest to the ground in called 'Bachelor pits'. Three to four males form a group and stay in the same cave until they are chosen.

Magic is respected and looked fondly upon, but is not treated specially. Westfall views survival skills and physical capabilities above anything 'flashy', seeing as there may be months where food will be in short supply.
