According to the concept art book I just received, the creators didn't specifically think of an animal that the Deathclaw came from 'x' It's basically a mash and mix of several animals (goat, lizard, kangaroo... and I think they mentioned another reptile but I forgot >_> ).
In the game though, I think they made Deathclaws just random creatures that appeared after the bombings and radiation leaks. question

Well Yao Gua ARE Bears, just very altered in the coat, Super Mutants were created from FEV, Ghouls are irradiated people so only Mutants are truly evolved >_>
But Deathclaws are said to be either lizards (according to one FO, not sure which) and others say experiments by the Government before the war

thanks for the responses my favorite is that they evolved from kittens which is closest to what my friend says which is bunnies but the government experiment is more believable but if anyone else knows anything post it xd

The deathclaws were originally created before the Great War by the United States Military in order to replace humans during high-risk close-combat search-and-destroy missions. They were Jackson's Chameleons genetically modified with the DNA of various other species.

i guess the wild ones must have had the mind control devices destroyed it really pisses me off scream then again the mind controled ones attack any way so guess it doesnt matter except those you can use to your advantage smile
