Late evenings were Awunrayth's favorite times. Rieta came back from the fields to oil her and talk, and the sunset and the night sang and everything was beautiful and hushed. And now, with new dragons in Ghenza, she was even more full of hope and joy. Surely, now that Ghenzans and High Reaches residents had both impressed to the same clutch the distances would begin to fade. They all hatched from eggs, all looked for theirs. Those were the important things. They could be friends. And now, with the younger ones to reach out to, it would be easier. She would make sure of that.
Don't get to excited, Love. It wasn't a good hatching from what I hear. Rieta was oiling the dragon's neck. The long days work had her sleepy enough that her usual bouncing energy was in check.
All hatchings are good. Loss is sad, but new life comes. The green was resting her head on the ground, and as Rieta worked up toward her jaw, her calm whirling gaze caught sight of something. Just the something she was looking for. A new weyrling and their rider.
Good evening! Her mindvoice was sweet and clear, enthusiasm coloring it with warmth. I would be pleased if you and yours would join us.

For L'in it had been somewhat difficult to adjust from a somewhat solitary lifestyle to one that was full of Laseth, full of oiling and feeding and speaking with her, her inquisitive mind forever touching his with some new bit of curiosity or some input on whatever he was thinking of. For now, weary, it was nothing in particular, and so Laseth was somewhat quiet, despite herself --
Until she heard the unfamiliar sound of that gentle, warm voice. Whoever it was, it was an older dragon, and the fact that Laseth did not know her made her curious. Mine, there is an older dragon calling us, she announced to L'in, pleased. We should go and see! She might know something we don't...!
As new as L'in was at this, he had already pinpointed Laseth's favorite phrase, and despite himself, he agreed -- his lifemate's search for knowledge echoed his own, and now he had an ironclad reason to go looking for it, right? After all, he couldn't deny his, now could he? "All right, Laseth," he said aloud, an edge of laughter in his voice.
Good evening to you too, replied Laseth in her best grown-up voice to the unknown dragon at the other end as she oriented herself in that direction, sure that L'in was following. I and mine are coming!

You may stop, Mine. We are having guests. Awunrayth's eyes where blue with pleasure, and she lifted her head from where she'd been resting it, looking attentive but at ease as the younger green and her rider approached. She was a little thing, not yet full grown and destined to stay small. Bigger, of course, then a hatchling, even a Ghenzan one, but no competition for the local dragons. She was also clearly well cared for. No amount of work in the fields kept Rieta from her duty to her dragon. Addressing Laseth she sent, I am Awunrayth. Mine is Rieta. We are happy to meet you and yours.
"Guess I've been wanting some company." Rieta replied, finishing off the oiling by giving the green a rough pat on the jaw. She was a mess, dirty from the day, oily from taking care of Awunrayth, with streaks of dirt across her jawline. But her smile, when she looked toward the arriving pair, was wide and unaffected, genuine interest lighting her gaze. "Hey there." She called out as the rider came within range of her voice, not a difficult feat as she spoke loudly even to those who were close at hand. "Congrats to you on finding your lifemate. Always glad to meet a fellow greenrider."
Having heard about the hatching, but not attended, she didn't recognize L'in as the one who had experienced such a unique, and painful impression. He was just a new green rider, and a Ghenzan. An opportunity to build a bridge.
