AIM log between Nikui & Milo who is ever-so-creative with RP titles

Again Nanaka had picked up on traveling. After a night of being social with Drover, she felt more compelled to actually go and look for company rather than steer clear of the pack lands. But still, she hadn't found anywhere to go.

The female had never been very...graceful when it came to things. She was somewhat clumsy and tended to not look before she leaped, so to speak. Nanaka had found herself lost...in the desert that she had heard a bit about from Drover. Luckily she'd found a shady gorge...dry and desolate, by still shady. Splaying out onto her stomach, Nanaka stretched her legs out behind her, sandy fur ruffled and slightly unkempt. Guess the male had been right--it was pretty damn difficult out here without knowing what the hell she was doing.

---

The shade was a wonderful thing in the desert. It was certainly an excellent place to take refuge, where the dry air didn't trap heat and the difference between shade and sun could be thirty degrees. In addition to that, or complementary to it, was the fact that it was the best place to find other animals during the heat of the day. Drover was intent on searching out prey, the little scampering lizards that would sit in the sun until they got to hot and return to the shade until they got to cold; as they cooled, they got sluggish, less jumpy, and seemed to sit there as if to say "eat me! Eat me!" Drover was always ready to please.

He hadn't expected to stumble upon another of his own kind, even less a wolf he'd seen before, but he did. "Well, hello there," he said, surprised into speaking as he came across Nanaka.

---

Jumping slightly at the sound of the male's voice, he straightened up and looked up tot he other, eyes wide. "O-oh! Drover..h-hi," she mumbled, pushing herself to sit up. She was tired, thirsty, and pretty hungry...but she had to at least look decently active, right? Even if the heat was still getting to her.

"I didn't think you'd be back around this area for a while," she admitted, smiling softly. Her tail wagged softly against the ground, sending up a small dust cloud from the dry earth. Sigh, "I'm admittedly not very fond of your home...no offense," she laughed, shaking her head. Hopefully she didn't offend him, but damn, this desert business was harder than she expected it to be...Nanaka had grown up in a decently lush, plentiful area...and even when she went off on her own she'd been able to find food. But here...not so much.

---

Drover chuckled, looking at her. She seemed tired, and hot, her already dusty-colored coat made even more so. "It's not for everyone," he said. It really wasn't--he survived out here because his fur was generally thin, but a wolf born for the chillier forests would have a rough time of it.

"Awful lonely out here, too," he said pointedly. He, too, took a seat in the shade. Day in the desert could tire anyone out--that's why many of its residents were active mainly at dawn or dusk. "Thought you were more into socializing?" She'd mentioned, before, that she'd wanted a pack. Well, the desert was a poor place to go looking.

Socializing.. "Depends on my mood, I guess," she laughed dryly, "I ran into a pack or two..but they weren't for me," she shrugged slightly, not really sure what to say about it. Apparently the weather had affected her thoughts as well, she was having problems putting words together.

"What about you? Still in for the non-social life?" Obviously, since he returned to this barren area. She just wanted to think of something to converse about, something to keep her mind off of the heat, though now she was cooling down since she'd found shade. It was much nicer than being in the sun, which was weird for her.

"And I guess i kind of got twisted around...I didn't really decide to come here, just kinda'...ended up here." She shrugged. Bad sense of direction.

---

"Oh, I s'ppose," he answered. "Not like I'm doin' it on purpose, I just... seem to end up alone, more often than not." He didn't actively avoid wolves, as evidenced by the fact he was talking to Nanaka, but when you didn't live in a pack's territory, it was easy to find yourself alone.

He didn't actively look for Nanaka, either, but here he was, running into the same lone female twice in a row. Maybe that was a sign.

"No one ever seems to mean to be in the desert," he said. "It just kind of happens." He grinned at her. "And then you're stuck here."

---

Smirking at this, she shrugged a bit, actually quite happy to see the male again. He was good company, if not a little rough around the edges when it came to things, but still nice.

"Well," she piped up, cocking her head a bit, "Maybe us running into eachother again is a good thing. Keeps us both from being lonely for a while," smiling, she shifted into a 'puppy sit'..more comfortable, less posture. She didn't care. Her hind feet sticking every which way while her tail wagged childishly.

"I hope i'm not stuck here," she laughed, "It's kinda'...dry and..yeah, you know what I mean." Definitely couldn't think right now.

---

It really was very easy to get trapped forever in the desert, with the landmarks constantly shifting in the wind and the sand sometimes obscuring the sky. Some wolves had mastered the art of navigating the space, passing down hereditary paths to their children, as Drover's mother had taught him. He didn't think now was the time, however, for horror stories about foolish wolves who died in the life-sapping heat.

"Don't worry," he said with a wink, "I'm an expert at gettin' outta the desert... and gettin' back in, I suppose." She looked rather sweet in her new posture, though Drover wasn't sure he could emulate it. Maybe she was better at relaxing like that, having had a nice family upbringing, even if they were crazy. Drover hadn't had many opportunities to really be a puppy.

---

Looking up to the male hopefully, her tail wagged a bit quicker at the idea of getting out of this hell-hole, "I'd owe you my life," she smiled hopefully, "But I wanna' get out of here. Or at least find water--and food," maybe she was a bit needy, and she did feel a little bad bothering the male again, but she supposed she had given him a place to sleep and company before..now it was worth asking for help before she wandered for days and just seeped away from the heat.

"That's..not too much trouble, is it? I didn't even ask if you were busy.." Yep, definitely felt bad now. She folded her ears back, but kept up her small, hopeful smile. That and she still liked his company--as to why she was so attracted to the desert-dwelling wolf she didn't know. Personality? She didn't know. But she still liked his company.

---

Drover took a careful, more evaluating look at Nanaka. He'd noticed before that she was tired and hot, but since that was the usual state of things out here, he hadn't thought much of it. He didn't want to be rude, but if she really didn't know what she was doing, that could be dangerous. Finding food and water in the desert meant looking for it hours before you were going to want it, not when you got hungry and thirsty.

He kept his attitude light as he replied, not wanting to make it sound like she was about to topple over dead. "Well it ain't too far to water," he said, "and then we can sort out food. Should wait 'til night to travel, though; it'll be cooler." He shook his head at the suggestion that he might be busy. "Naw, I'm not doing anything, sheila; t' be honest, it'll be more exciting than anything else I'd end up doing today."

---

Nodding to him in agreement, since she really hadn't thought about having to travel in the heat--she just wanted water. Looking around, she glanced up to figure out if the sun would get through as the day went by, before shifting her paws against the dry ground.

"Should we wait to get water 'till later?" She questioned, looking over to the male curiously. She had energy, despite being pretty tired otherwise, and didn't really want to just sit around all day. Her tail was still wagging absently, unsure of what to say from here on out--now she felt a little awkward, he wasn't in her terrain. She was in the desert..and probably was going to be here for a while, pretty helpless. Sigh.

---

"It's better not to wait," Drover urged. "Y' lose water out here faster, even if you don't feel it... it c'n really mess you up." He also wanted to get moving because, once he'd made his mind up to do something, he liked to get on it right away. That was one reason he never planned too far in advance.

"It'll be shady once we get there, too," he added, to encourage her to come along. "And if you're hungry, it can take some time to get food, so we'd better start soon."

---

Blinking at him, she nodded and slowly moved to stand up, shaking herself off to get rid of all the dirt on her coat. "All right then~" She cooed, smiling giddily and making her way up to his side.

"Lets go! I haven't seen much of this place, maybe it'll grow on me," doubtful. But she wanted to be optimistic, especially since she got to spend more time with the strange male. Flicking her tail this way and that, she then moved towards the exit to the gorge--where she had come from--and wiggled excitedly. Water~ And possibly some dinner. Both sounded amazing right now.

---

Drover got to his feet also, nudging her neck with his muzzle for just a moment before turning toward the exit. "If you've seen some of it," he said, setting off at an easy lope, "you've seen it all."

Instinctively, he knew which way to go; he started to pace away from the sun, making his way toward the oasis he knew existed. "Come on, then -- where there's water, there's food; hope you don't mind snake." He chuckled a bit. Some wolves couldn't stand the taste, for whatever reason, and while it certainly wasn't as sweet as a mammal, Drover enjoyed it.

---

The muzzle to her neck made her smile. It was comforting...maybe she took it wrong, but she had a feeling she could count on him to help her..as to why she felt this way, she didn't know. But it was nice. She'd never been able to rely on anyone before, since they had all been crazy…

Shrugging it off mentally, she broke into the same pace as him, finding it a bit easier to walk quickly with someone else there with her. Before, she had just wanted to lie down in the shade and sleep, but had thought otherwise.

"Snake?" She licked her nose after the mention of it, looking up to him curiously, "Never..had it, I guess," not that she could remember at least. "Aren't those dangerous?" She usually steered clear of anything with fangs like that. Though antlers weren't much better..
