This is where it all begins for the new arrivals to Shimagakure. The docks of Shimagakure receives trading vessels and other sorts of ships on occasion. Unlike most of the other parts of the village, the docks have been left unscathed, hinting at the glory that the village once had.

A lone fisherman can nearly always be found at the docks, and has a knack for pointing people in the right direction, but only if they return the favor by assisting him in some way.

Fisherman NPC Profile

Character Name:Fisherman Araiguma
Clan: N/A
Age: 76
Sex: Male
Birthday: Spring 1
Theme Song:
Physical Description: Araiguma is a small elder man, worn down by the years, but with enough spirit to often keep a smile on his face and spirit in his step.
Clothing: Depending on the time of year, Araiguma wears various simple robes. Thicker ones for the cooler seasons, and thinner ones for the warmer seasons. These robes are old themselves, and much of the color has faded from them.
Personality: This fisherman is a kind old man who likes most anyone. He strongly believes in helping out others, so long as they are also willing to help people in need when the time comes.
Background: Araiguma was a traveling professor in his youth, and eventually made his way to Shimagakure, where he and his wife settled down together in retirement. Eventually, time caught up with Araiguma's wife, and swept her way from the world of the living. He didn't allow this to alter his kind and generous personality, but ended up spending quite a bit more time down at the docks, as the sea had never failed to keep him company throughout his life. Thankfully, he managed to survive the attack on the village, as he was fishing while it happened. Since then, he has attempted to find new prospects for the Shinobi Academy. The school wasn't what it used to be, but Araiguma knew that the future of Shimagakure would depend on the success of the academy.

A little distance off the docks a small wooden boat with a single person was floating and making speed towards the shore. The occupant was fast asleep and so wasn't watching where he was going when suddenly the current picked up and slammed the small boat into the shore, wreaking the boat, and throwing a boy onto the beach, This boy is Kioshi Toshiro. Kioshi, woken suddenly jumped up and surveyed the area, looking for anyone around.

Ever since the village had come under siege from an unknown force, Araiguma hadn't had any luck with his fishing. Just when he was about to throw in the towel after yet another day that produced no bites, the end of his fishing pole bounced once, and then twice. A slight grin formed against the wrinkled canvas of the old man's face as the joy of finally landing a fish was within grasp. Unfortunately, just as the man was about to set the hook, a loud crash startled the man's worn down senses, causing him to neglect the fish that had been lured in by his bait. After regaining his composure, the man attempted to set the hook, but felt nothing at the end of the line. In all likelihood, the fish had gotten away with his bait. After sighing the defeated mood out of his system, the man decided to humor himself by seeing what had caused the noise.

Upon closer observation, the fisherman noticed that a boy had emerged from the source of the sound.
'Typical,' the old man muttered to himself. He wasn't really upset about the fish, but he figured that he'd use the situation to get a little bit of work done that he couldn't be bothered to do himself.
"Well good morning lad, it seems that you're up and about quite early. My name is Araiguma, what's yours?" Before the boy had a chance to answer, the old man butted in and put forth a task for the youngster to complete. "Would a strong young man like yourself be so kind as to help an elder out? Y'see, a few of the boards on this dock here have become loose over the years, and they need their nails pounded back in. I have a hammer here for you to use if you'd be willing to help." With that said, Araiguma reached into the bag that he brought with him every morning and pulled out a hammer, offering it to the boy without having waited for an answer.

Kioshi took the hammer from the old man smirking. "You got it pops!" Kioshi walked over to the old dock and knelt down at the first board and took a heavy swing at the first nail. "This shouldn't take too...." Kioshi looked down in disgust to find he missed the nail completely! "Ahh, scratch that!" Embarrassed Kioshi looked back and set up for a second swing.

Focused now on the nail, Kioshi brang the hammer back above his head, then swung down hard. Kioshi lifted the hammer with a smile to see that he had made contact this time! "Gotcha!" Kioshi exclaimed. "Now, one down, plenty to go" Kisoshi grined and moved over to the next nail. "Seems I may need a bit more focus after crash landing here. By the way, my name is Toshiro Kioshi! Pleasure to meet you!" Kioshi said with a smile to the old man as he hammered in more nails

As Kioshi swung down on the old nails a smile creased his lips. He was getting close to finishing but he was felt good to be able to help out the old man. "At least it's nice out today" Kioshi said quietly to himself looking up every now and then to stare out at the clear blue water. "only a few more!" Kioshi said aloud as he brought his hammer up and sat to take a quick break.

Oh how joyful this day had been thus far. Waking up in a holding cell, getting yelled out by guys who couldn't understand the meaning of the word "hangover," and finally being dragged down to the docks in shackles because he could be dangerous or something.

Yes, Taiju was having a wonderful day thus far. He thought that the guards were planning to throw him into the water and have him swim back to wherever he came from.

Luckily enough, it didn't go down that way. The guards wordlessly took the shackles and handcuffs off and left. So now he was stuck on the outskirts of town, with nothing to do. In front of him an old man seemed to be more interested in fishing than helping him at the moment.

"Hey old timer! Any ideas of how I’m supposed to get inside the city or get out of here? The people inside dumped me here without telling me anything."

Araiguma rubbed the back of his neck and smiled at the newcomer. He was glad to see that a bit of spirit was still left in some people, as the recent attack on the village had taken much of the life out of Shimagakure. "Well young timer, I know exactly how to get into the village, but if you want my help you'll have to help me first!" The fisherman thought for a few moments about what he could have the young lad do for him. The events of the Black Spring had left so much in ruin, which caused many chores for the tired old man. Araiguma pointed towards the beach, where a rope could be seen coming out of the water and resting on the sand. "See there? That rope is attached to a fishing trap that I have in the water. Usually, it's rigged up to a pulley system so that I just need to turn a wheel to raise the traps. Unfortunately, it has recently been destroyed, and I don't have the strength in these old bones to get my traps out of the water." The man smiled once again. Ah, the usefulness of the youth! "Will you help me out, lad?"
