Andrea sat slumped to one side on his seat with his chin resting on his elbow as the Intro Photography teacher explained their next project. He had no problems with still being on black-and-white film, and he had always enjoyed taking action shots of people since he had done that for a while at the dance studio and stuff, but for this, they could not take pictures of just anyone, they had to do this with partners. A couple of the kids in the class were legitimately interested in photography, Andrea included, but a good chunk of them were there just for the easy A.

He had mostly identified who fell into which category among his classmates, but his partner was one of the couple he did not know about yet. Definitely not because Damian was one of the quiet guys in the class, though - Andrea was just not sure what to make of the enthusiastic older kid. The teacher had graded the projects so far on her own without any group critique sessions.

Low grumbling filled the classroom as people gathered up their binders and moved around, taking up as much time as possible in some cases to go sit beside their partners. The dark-haired sophomore moved with some reluctance, but was still among the first to plunk down in a plastic chair at the desk beside the redhead the teacher had indicated as Damian.

"Hey," he said in greeting, flashing a friendly smile as he tugged the sheet of paper with the assignment out from between his binder and a folder. Then he scanned over the words on the page to check again for the due date in boldface near the top. He promptly looked back up at his partner, and offered his right hand to shake. "I'm Andrea, as you probably already guessed from the partner assignments.

"You play any sports or anything like that?" he then asked. "That would make these action shots easier." Each had to take one of the other, and Andrea wanted to get more of an idea what this guy was like before he volunteered the information that he was big into ballet dancing.

Damian was a curious guy, and being curious he liked to try new things. Photography was one of those such things. So far he'd been enjoying the class, the different effects you could get with lighting, the way his SLR camera worked, it was all pretty interesting. Of course, he had thought cars were pretty interesting too for a semester, until he got bored and dropped auto shop. But he had a good feeling about photography, at least for now anyways.

As interested as he was Damian was only listening to the teacher with one ear, the rest of his attention was on the Hamlet book he had open in his lap. He was trying to catch up with the rest of his English class since he transferred in late. It wasn't like he was going to miss much in Photography, right?

Wrong. All of the sudden there was someone sitting next to him and talking to him. Jerking his head up he saw most the kids were shuffling around. He had a confused look on his face as he looked back to the dark-haired kid, Andrea? Wasn't Andrea a girl's name? He was so caught up in thinking about the kid's name that he nearly missed the part where he said partner assignments. So, that's why he's over here, great, too bad I didn't get paired up with one of the girl's. His thought process after looking up took all of a second and a half before he grinned. "Damian." He was very, very tempted to ask about the boy's name, but he managed to restrain himself for the moment.

Catching his question he nodded as he flipped Hamlet closed and shoved it in his bag. "Yeah, archery, I guess we could take shots of me shooting targets. Not very much action there though. What about you?" He looked the kid over, sizing him up.

When the other boy did not respond right away, Andrea leaned over to peer conspicuously at the book his partner was reading until the other boy finally noticed him. Then he resumed smiling ... and hoped to himself that he would not get stuck as the one pulling all the weight.

After Damian had introduced himself and mentioned that he did archery, he felt a bit better, though, and nodded, considering just how much action they could get into a shot of him firing an arrow. Archery seemed pretty cool, but Andrea himself was not really sure if he would have the patience to hold still and take such careful aim.

"I dunno, archery might still be alright. All that like, anticipation of action, getting ready to fire that shot." He pantomimed holding a drawn bow, then declared with drama in his tone, "Action in the stillness and concentration." Then Andrea laughed. "That is seriously cool, though. We can figure something out, I'm sure." As for his own hobbies, he uh...

-- realized there was not really a way out of it, but figured that his ballet was pretty handy for action photography. After all, his uncle's house was practically wallpapered with professional posters and his wife's pictures from his own dancing career.

"I dance," the sophomore told his partner, smiling. "So at least we both do sports. This should not be too difficult."

Then, to change the subject, he tapped his finger on the page beside the due date (which he suspected Damian might not yet be aware of), and inquired, "What days would be good to you to get together after school to work on this? What days does the archery team meet?"

Damian watched as Andrea pantomimed drawing a bow, and then laughed at his words. "Yeah, I dunno, we could give it a shot." He thought a moment then laughed again. "No pun intended" He leaned back in his chair till it was balancing on it's back two legs.

When he mentioned dancing he arched a brow. "Dance?" It wasn't said condescendingly, more curiously. "Well that's handy" He leaned precariously farther back, the chair groaning as if in warning. He kept it there for a couple seconds as if testing his luck before he set the chair back down on all four legs.

Leaning forwards he looked at the date. "Hm, I have work after school on Monday's, and Thursday's, and the archery teams meets on Tuesday's, and Friday's. So I guess Wednesday, if that works with you?"

"Ah, that sucks," Andrea sighed, tapping his fingertips lightly on the desk. "My schedule's just the opposite. I work Tuesdays and Fridays." He hesitated a moment, looking down to study his fingers where they rested on the fake wood surface of the desk. "I dunno, when do you get off work on Mondays and Thursdays? Those are the days I have dance practice in the evening, if you would want to come by?"

He grinned at his partner's pun, feeling a bit better at not immediately being called names. "We could try to work something out Wednesday, too. I can bring my shoes with me to school and hopefully there'll be a free space in the gym big enough for me to do some jumps.

"Sorry I'm kind of dumb about archery team, but do you guys have stuff you would have to set up to shoot? Like, would we be able to try to set up so you could do some shooting on the weekend or something? Or would I have to come while you guys are practicing?" While he awaited his partner's response, Andrea pondered through his work schedule, wondering when he could move one of his work shifts to a weekend.

"Mondays and Thursdays?" He repeated the words thinking about it. "Around eight or eight-thirty, but I can ask to get off early, my boss is pretty chill with that sort of stuff if I tell him it's for school. What time's your dance practice?" He propped his elbow on the table and then leaned his chin on his palm, staring at the other boy. He was trying to figure out an alternative to archery for his own action shots. He just didn't think shooting a bow would be action-y enough for their teacher. A very vigorous activity came to mind and Damian couldn't help but smirk, there'd definitely be enough action with those kind of shots, but he didn't think the teacher would appreciate them turning in pornography for the project.

When Andrea started talking again he blinked a couple times snapping out of his thought process. "Oh, we could do that too if you want, whatever's easiest. Does your dance studio have big mirrors? It would give the picture another perspective."

The red head shook his head slightly, it was hard to shake your head while it was sitting in your palm. "Nah, you could come by before or after, or we could even go in a day I don't have practice. I know how to set up the targets and everything so we could get the shots then, shouldn't be too hard."

Had Andrea known what alternative activity his partner had been contemplating, he would have been more than a little horrified. Fortunately, though, Damian had not actually said anything about turning in porn for the project.

"Dance usually goes from about six-thirty until eight-thirty, give or take a few minutes sometimes. But yeah, there are mirrors at the studio." He held his pencil between two fingers and tapped the eraser end on the desk. "So if you wanna do those there, I can let Miss Regina or Mister Walters know that I'll have a friend dropping by. Where do you work? Hopefully it's not too far away? I go to the Destiny City Dance Academy, downtown on the second floor of that building with that old antique store on the first level that's been there forever."

He perked up a bit at his partner's reply about archery club practice, though. "We could take care of your shots on Wednesday then, though. That would work just fine for me. I'll just have to make sure I get my English paper done tomorrow night to be sure I'll have plenty of time to spare on Wednesday after school...." Trailing off, Andrea filpped his binder open and went to his planner, making a note to himself.

Damian nodded, the studio sounded like it would work for Andrea's action shots. "Oh, I work at Big Willy's Record Store, it's just a couple blocks away across from that one shopping center." Oh yeah, he was so specific and so helpful with his directions. He thought about Andrea's directions for a moment and was able to figure out where he meant. "Oh yeah, I know where that's at, so we can take your shots Thursday?"

"Wednesday sounds good." He watched as the other boy wrote down something in a planner. Damian toyed with the idea of a planner for a moment then pushed it aside, he'd lose it, or just stop using it. He was good with just remembering things in his head.

"Sure," Andrea replied with a smile, though his eyes flicked momentarily towards his partner's binder as he noted that Damian was not writing down the appointment on his end. He understood that everyone kept track of their time in different ways, but since he had known this other boy for all of about five minutes, the sophomore could not help but be a little wary that the appointment would be remembered.

Still, though, his fairly positive expression did not falter, and he tore off one corner of a page of his planner before penciling a number onto it. "Oh yeah, if you want, here is my cell phone number, if you need to call me or whatever. I turn it off when I go to bed, so don't worry about waking me up. I just won't get the message till the morning." Then Andrea grinned expectantly at his partner. "You have a cell, too? Or a house number, at least?"

Damian watched as the other boy ripped off a piece of paper and handed it to him. His number? For a second he was confused, but then realized it could be handy to have, in case plans changed or whatever. He took the slip of paper from him, and went to stuff it in his pocket. His hand stopped when he heard Andrea's question. "Oh yeah, hang on." He transferred the piece of paper to his other hand and then pulled his phone out of his pocket. Unlocking it he keyed in the other boy's number, his gray eyes looking from the paper to the cellphone every couple numbers. Once he saved it into his phone he flipped the piece of paper over, grabbed his pen and wrote down his number on the blank side. He handed the slip of paper back to Andrea. "There you go. That's my cell, I'm up all night usually so it doesn't matter when you call."

Andrea took the scrap back and pulled out his own cell phone, keeping it carefully out of sight under the desk as he keyed the number in. Before he had all the digits and a name to go with it in his address book, though, the bell signaling the end of class rang.

"Really fast, your name is Damian what?" he asked hurriedly; the sophomore had no other Damians in his phone yet, but he always liked to have a surname just in case he encountered one later. "I'm Andrea Gyfford, with a Y and two F's, G-Y-F-F-O-R-D," he added, speaking the instructions and spelling clearly but with a certain tone to it that he was used to having his name mis-spelled.

At the same time, he reached for his backpack. His next class was not too far away, but it was near the cafeteria, which was the one place where a line sometimes formed for the boys' room. "I'll definitely give you a call if something comes up, but otherwise, I'll meet you after school on Wednesday, then, by the archery range?"

Damian's head perked up when the bell rang, he was slightly surprised it seemed like the class had gone by fast. He started to gather his things up so he could go. His leaving was paused by Andrea's question. "It's Damian Cole, C-O-L-E, everyone usually spells it with an a." He rolled his eyes a bit then shrugged, he was used to it.

He finished packing up his stuff and slung his backpack over his shoulder. "Sure, sounds good. See you then." He smiled and gave a little half wave before he headed out of the class.
