It was only a few minutes after the sun disappeared on the horizon, the orange and red glow still lingered in the sky that was not day or yet night. The colors reflected off the dark ocean, giving the great body of water a magnificent look; it was like a sea of flame in the last moments of the day. Everything was calm, the waves of the ocean broke on sandbars near shore and sent waves rolling in, casting its salty waters higher up onto the beach.

A Soquili stood, red and gold wings matching the last rays of the setting sun, his blue eyes gazing over the ocean, pondering all the mysteries yet unsolved that lay beneath its surface. There were many secrets yet discovered that rested leagues down on the ocean floor, only to be seen by those who have the skills and the gills to discover the hidden treasures that the ocean holds so dear.

The Angeni walked closer to the waves rolling up on the shore, letting the sandy salt water soak his hooves; the water became chilly after the sun went down. He stood there in the water, his eyes locked on the blackness that was the ocean. It peeved Wystan that the ocean would be one mystery that he would not be able to solve; he could fly over it and look down on its vast greatness, but never will he be able to go into its cool salty waters and view the wanders that are under the wavy surface.

He gave out a big snort and shook his head, ‘I mustn’t give up. There might be ways to solve the mysteries of the deep. Perhaps mother has some insight...’ he stopped his inner thought process when the topic came to his mother, that was still a thorn in his hoof that had not been removed, but he would not let her depression make him depressed himself, ‘She is a grown Angeni; she can take care of herself.’ Wystan soon removed all thought of his mother out of his head, and continued to stare out at the open sea, contemplating how he would solve this case.

User ImageDawn was coming to an end, the oranges and reds that had matched her wings perfectly were now gone. She'd decided that today would be the day that she got adventurous, leaving her forest home and really traveling somewhere! "Well this just must do." She sighed softly. She had decided against flying, her wings were tired from the days before decision to attempt going over a mountain. They had been out of practice and so she suffered for that.

"Ocean, my dear, deep blue friend. You never look more beautiful than with the oranges and reds 'tainting' your glossy finish." Her voice was lost to sea by the crashing of minor waves nearby. Rocks blocked the waves where she had entered, from climbing up to far on land. Though as she took a walk along the beaches she saw the rocks begin to get less numbered. "Silly rocks, letting go of your grip, don't you know that an ocean could swallow you whole." Her voice, swallowed again.

Darkness seemed to come faster than she could've ever imagined, the sky was still slightly bright, no cloud cover meant the moon shone brightly over head. She was astonished to see she still had a reflection in the waters glass like surface that began beating gently at her hooves. It wasn't a long walk before her nose and body itself gave signals of a new presence.

"Someone.. there?" She muttered to herself, she hadn't expected to see a soul that night. She just looked for a calm way out of a busy day and in fact she now had more to see, learn about and enjoy. This didn't bother her much, she just had to put off relaxing for a while.

It was then that the stunning male angeni came into the mares view. He had wings of red and gold from what she could tell of the moons lighting, his pelt was of a smokey gray and on his fore-hooves he wore a plate of sorts. his mane and tail matched his wings perfectly, creating a wonderful sight. At first she couldn't even speak, meeting a full grown angeni would be a new experience for her.

Wystan stood there, in the cold water, watching the day fade and night come upon the earth in its great splendor. Above his head the constellation Orion shone brightly in the sky; the Angeni could see all the stars that made up his belt, bow, and body. It was a clear star filled night; the beauty of the stars faded in comparison to the full moon and her silver light reflected off the ocean. All was dark on the sea except for the white glow of the moon’s glow that caused a silver path far into the deep black waters. In all his wanderings as a foal, Wystan never did come across a place as magnificent as what lay before him. He had seen lands covered in ice, flowers, dark mysterious caves, but nothing ever took his breath away as much as the ocean did. Deep down he knew that his fascination with the dark abyss of the ocean was only because he was unable to solve the mysteries, so it would always draw him until he did.

His ears twitched as he heard the sound of approaching hooves on the sand, they were quiet, since the sand muffled the noise, but he still noticed the faint sound. The Angeni waited for the owner of the sound to come closer; out of the corner of his eye he noticed a light colored Angeni approaching him. He could not tell in the lack of light, be he took an educated guess that the Soquili approaching him was a mare. A few moments passed and she did not say a word, Wystan thought that the silence coming off the mare was strange, ‘why be silent if you have something to say?’.

He slowly turned to face the mare, careful not to make his movements to jerky; he did not want to frighten her. “Hello, Miss. Lovely night is it not? The stars are so bright tonight, and the moon…” he gave her a small smile, waiting for her to answer in on his attempt at small talk. Now that she was closer to him he could clearly see in the full moon’s light that she was indeed a mare, a very pretty mare to be precise. Her mane was long and was a light color and her body was a shade of blue; his eyes were drawn to the stars dangling from her wings for a quick second and then he turned his attention back to the mare’s eyes.

A silence, not awkward or uncomfortable, sat between them. She did not speak in fear of frightening the intent stallion. He had his eye's glued to the ocean for a good long while before he turned to face her. She watched his eye's glance over her, then linger at the stars a moment. She smiled, sweet as can be.

"The Moon and sister stars create a dazzling light show on the oceans dancing surface." She said happily. Her voice was in a whisper, as if she'd disturb the moon, stars and oceans play. She enjoyed the quiet while watching this and did not think to turn up her volume. Instead of changing it, she just got closer to the stallion and then turned to stare out longingly.

The water seemed to call her name more often than not when she came here, Her eye's lingered long and hard on its' glossy finish, the ocean seemed to bring out it's pure perfection in only the moonlight, during the day it's colors swallowed the others, leaving blurred reflections. The night brough out it's best in her opinion.

"To think.." She started, her lips closing a moment, she pondered how to begin again, than started. "To think that beneath everything there is more to know." She stated, she hadn't thought about the mysteries of the deep to often, but something about this stallion brought on curiosity that was buried deep inside her.

The Angeni next to him spoke in such a small voice that was barely audible over the sound of the waves crashing on the shore; she soon moved closer to him. Wystan not wanting his voice to be louder than hers for some odd reason, he copied the low volume of her voice, “That they do. There is no other place like this where you can see the reflection of the night sky in the water and have the feel of sand beneath your hooves and the scent of salt in the air.” The way she spoke made him think of the tone his mother always used, it was always a cross between an eloquent choice of words and a deep philosophical meaning that only a few understood.

Her gaze was soon locked on the dark ocean like his was only moments before, Wystan wondered what was going through her head, but he kept his maw shut and let the peacefulness of the night surround them. How much he has changed since his days as a foal, when silence would have been filled by meaningless chatter filled with questions that the other Soquili either knew or did not know. He gave out a small laugh that was barely heard over the ocean’s waves.

The mare had started to say something, and then continued on with her spoken thought, Wystan nodded, the moon’s glow reflecting off the earrings in his left ear, “There is always more to be known. Always beneath the known is something unknown. It is what makes life so interesting and mysterious.”

Nokomis gave a curt nod, she'd missed his small giggle, though surely would have joined him. The air was calm between them, so she thought, and the water filled whatever silence was not calm. Her wings ruffled lightly, getting slightly poof-ier, same with her furry pelt. She laughed softly inspite of the calm silence.

"Only problem with this beautiful place, is it made my pelt stand a bit, get more poofy by the second." She giggled softly, her voice having just picked up a notch, she didn't stay the same very often. "My poor wings themselves, but it's all very worth it. The moon, the stars, the deep abyss of secrets left to be told..." She sighed happily, wings now perched on her back calmly.

"What is your name?" She asked, not gazing his way in any way, no peripheral gaze, head turning, anything. Her eye's stayed glued to the broad ocean.

Wystan’s ears twitched when he heard the mare next to him give a small laugh, he was curious to what had caused her reveal that small quiet burst of happiness. He made educated guesses at what could have made her laugh, but then none where the truth, only the suspected truth. The inner questions stopped when she started talking about the beauty of the night, her voice actually raised to a slight louder volume.

The stallion looked over the mare, she was right, her pelt was standing out more than it should, he could not help himself, he laughed, “You’re right, you are slowly turning into a puff ball. Is the same happening to me?” he looked down at himself, he was not as fluffy as the mare so he was not as puff as she. Her next words made him stop looking for puffiness on himself, she wonders about the secrets too, “And many mysteries to be solved.”

She did not look at him, but kept her head looking forward over the sea, Wystan looked at her, since that was the polite thing to do, “My name is Wystan, what is your name, miss?”

"A puff ball?" She giggled a moment, then gazed to herself a brief moment before their conversation went on further. She had been gazing now, zoned out on the ocean before them.

Moment s later he spoek up again, offering a name and then asking her's. "My name is Nokomis, you may call me Noko if you'd like." She smiled sweetly, the zoned out look faded slowly than returned just as quickly when she looked at the water.

"It's most beautiful during teh dawn hours." She said, her smile, only half its' usual glory.

He could not help but smile at her giggle, some of the mares he knew would have been offended, but the mare next to him was quite the opposite. She was filled with a strong free spirit that seemed to be connected to the earth around them.

“That is a truly beautiful name, if you do not mind my asking, what does your name mean?” Wystan’s question was a standard question that he asked almost everyone he met; if the names did not hold a certain meaning, Wystan would make them dig deep into the dark recesses of his or her mind until they discovered a reason why they are called what they are called.

The mare gazed back at the sea, her eyes only taking in the sight of the vast openness of the sea; it appeared to Wystan that the peculiar mare cared for nothing else at that moment in time, “Yes, in all my travels I have not yet seen its like. The ocean during the first rays of the sun is a sight one is likely never to forget.”

It was a pity that the first rays of the morning light was still many hours off, since the night had only fallen moments before, but the stars up above caused a beautiful eerie light that Wystan thought would have a competitive chance with the dawn at being an unforgettable sight.

"Grandmother." She said smiling softly, her gaze fogged over lightly as she looked to the water once more, glancing around from then on. "It means Grandmother, derived from a story from a tribe of Indians that I have long forgotten the name of. My Mother chose it for me." She nodded, as if making sure of herself then teh fogged look vanished and she smiled to him again.

The hours, the ones that held them from seeing the glory of the sun's rising over it's beautiful blue canvas to be seemed to come closer, the time was almost flying to Noko. She could stand and chat for hours before becoming bored.

"Does yours have any meaning?" She asked in return, his curiosity sparked hers, which was often the way she was, things don't seem to hit her in thought of their own free will, she had to be spoken to about some little thing in order to spark some kind of larger conversation. "Of course, if you don't mind?" She let her smile willingly broaden.

Nokomis; the name fit her perfectly, in a way she was the embodiment of the great earth all around us, Wystan thought silently to himself.

When she smiled at him he could not help but smile back, there was such a vast abyss of wisdom in her ruby colored eyes; it intrigued the detective inside of the Angeni. The light around the two seemed to change as the night drew to an end, had they really been standing there that long gazing at the ocean and pondering the mysteries that lie beneath its dark salty waters?

“My name? It means ‘Battle Stone’ in Old English,” it was the name that his mother had given him when she set eyes upon his grey colored body and the blood dripping from his eye, but also deep down Wystan knew that he was mostly named after his father who he bore resemblance to.

Her eye's left the sea and Wystan to search the skies as the first rays of dawn crept through the darkness the skies once held. She spread her wings slightly, her stance to near Wystan to really spread them and she sighed contently. Shifting her hooves a little on the sand she became vastly more comfortable, obviously more at home with the daylight showering once more.

Her wings matched that of the rising sun, a large mixture of oranges and yellows, she quietly admired the reflection the sun made at the 'edge' of the water where in the old days people thought were the end of the world.

"So much beauty in one landscape." She said loud enough for Wystan to hear, but quiet enough it almost seemed she hadn't said anything at all.

The dark waters of the sea soon took on the red glow of the morning light; slowly the world opened its arms to welcome the embrace of the sun. Dawn over the ocean was a sight that one should always wish to see, it was clear to the Angeni why so many Soquili wake up before light to watch the awe inspiring sight of the new dawn.

He watched as Nokomis mimicked the day and opened her wings to embrace the slowly rising sun. She was gazing at the horizon and the world just seemed to end in a giant waterfall that fell off the face of the earth, but that was only how it seemed.

“Yes, it is one that all should aspire to see.” His voice was the same octave as hers; he did not want to disturb the peace that she was making around the two of them.

She let her wings relax as his words finished and were whisked away into the atmosphere around them. "All Soquili should see this at least once in their life, treasure it and realize what beauty the world has." She says happily, her voice letting go of the quiet barriers. She danced slightly on the sand again, she wasn't fond of the little pinchy creatures that often crawled around here, crabs. She had run into one before and was thankful for her thick fluffy coat.

"So lovely!" She said happily, her eye's seemed to glow now as she gazed to Wystan. He looked so handsome when the light hit his body, he was attractive. She decided this quickly, and easily, she had met so many beautiful Soquili and her mind began to wander now to others she'd met before. It made her happy to know so many colorful others.

Wystan’s hooves sunk deeper into the sand as his entire body relaxed as she gazed that the scene in front of him, he felt like a weight had been taken off his shoulders for the time being, “Yes, many do not know of the beauty that is before them. They continue on through life and never truly open their eyes.” The stallion watched as the mare danced on the sand in the early morning light, he held back a tiny laugh as he noticed the crabs trying to get closer to her, in a way they too were dancing.

He was able to see her more clearly now, she was lovely; long blondish hair that matched her wings. Below her red eyes was a gold accent, she was definitely related to nature with the flowers woven in her main and scattered throughout her wings, “I assume you have many beaus.” It was a statement, a mare as pretty as her would not remain single for long.
