Why Taylor Swift Offends Little Monsters, Feminists and Weirdos

Okay so this is an excellent article about pop music's current sugary sweet, ultra-wholesome and likeable country queen, Taylor Swift. What do you all think of it?

Honestly, before I reas the article I liked Taylor Swift, didn't really listen to her, but I thought she was pretty catchy and had more talent than any other disney purity ring pop tart out there. But the article did make me think, and I hate to admit it but Kanye was probably right in his drunken intteruption. Even if he was rude. But still, if it came down to who I'd want my tween daughter looking up to, I'd rather have her looking up to Taylor Swift than Miley Cyrus, but Lady Gaga/Beyonce/P!nk/Rihanna over Taylor Swift. GAGA IS MY QUEEEEEEN!

Heh. I would say Miley Cyrus is the Twilight of pop music - idiot teenagers think she (it) is cool but everyone else sees her (it) for what it really is, overrated trash.
Taylor Swift's okay in my opinion. Yes, her way of presenting herself is a bit too sickly sweet but that's better than the alternative.
And yeah, Lady Gaga's music is damn catchy.

To hate on someone or something just because you can is rather irrational.

Personally, I think she's cool.
And yes, a madonna is better than a slut.

Yeah, but what about perpetuating the virgin/whore dichotomy? Can't a girl enjoy sex without being a whore?

Forgive me for what I'm about to say.

I personally think that premarital sex is rather imbecilic at best, and sheer recklessness at its worst.

As far as Taylor Swift goes, she's not like Lindsay Lohan or Miley Cyrus.

I guess the thing that bothered me was the idea that a woman's worth and power only comes from her virginity. It gave me a lot of flash backs to middle school abstinence only sex ed that told us if we gave up the good before we got married sex would be worhtless in the future, and well, it's not. I wish someone had told 13 year old me that there were more ways to be in control of my sexuality than just denying it, and that with denying some boy (oh yeah, it was always the boys who would want the sex and the girls who had to be the strong vessels of purity and resistance) I was denying myself as well.

In my analysis of what is happening in the world in relation to women, sure I'm up for female empowerment. But with power comes responsibility. Sure you can show off your individuality, but you must be responsible.

I know for a fact that women like it when guys respect them. But, both sides should act respectfully towards each other. Otherwise, it's simply bosh.

The problem with society at large is that it promotes freedom without responsibilities.

I'm actually enjoying this article quite a bit.

Plus I love Saving Jane, and reading about that made me realize how much it was a rip-off of it. Ugh, now I see it how it was a play by play screen by screen shot of it. It really is a rip off of all these young women that write about love at a high school level. As my friend puts it "she could write a cheesy romance novel." Lol

As for the whole Madonna/ Whore scenario, I hate it due the fact it plays down women are less than men to begin with. Hell we are all human and if women get put into these stereotypes of being whores or madonnas, shouldn't men? Or should we just got rid of it all together. Socialization at it's finest, my friends.

Also, for premartial sex.... who cares? As long as the two people are adults, and they are smart about their decisions, let them. Some people have that Christian notion to "wait 'til marriage" but really, this is the 21st century, not the Dark Ages. Homosexuality isn't a mental disorder now, so neither is having a romp in the sack before there is a "Ring on it". Personally, that isn't all a girl "has" is her virginity. I may be a little brash at it because I lost mine a LONGGGGGG time ago and really don't care, but that's who I am. Seriously, if you lose your dignity over it too, then that's giving him everything you have.

I personally would love my girls (if I ever have any) to be like Gaga. Just her originality is through the roof that I would want the to be. (BTW, I totally want one of those face guards she has in "Bad Romance").

I really do agree what this person has to say. At least she didn't take something like country music itself or being a young girl, and turn it inside out and s**t upon it, like Meyer did with vampires.

Yup.

Here's the thing that most just don't get.

Feminism is about female empowerment. The problem is, most people nowadays equate virginity with a lack of empowerment. However, they are wrong because for one thing, they don't know about self-respect. Women are meant to be treated like equals. True, men and women are different, but they are equals. With being a slut, the woman is treated not as a person, but as a sex object.

No offense to anyone, but that is true.

There is an equal stereotype that applies to guys.
Nice guys are the male equivalent of madonna, whereas mean guy is the male equivalent of whore.

With me, personally, feminism itself is female empowerment. Just being in charge, having a spine, and holding your head up high and not letting yourself being pushed around, virgin or not, is what makes you empowered. Knowing who you are and comfortable with it, and doing what you want to do, that is true feminism. Sexuality not even in it, but if you have the power, you can do it!

Reminds me of this spoken word artist, Bridget Gray.

Exactly, as long as you know what you are doing, and is being responsible in it. I always love to say "With power comes responsibility", because it's true.
