Penthesilea padded her way along the forest. This was familiar territory for her and yet at the same time completely unfamiliar. Her old pack had lived within a densely packed forest much like this one, but then the in fighting had begun and now that pack was no more. It wouldn't stay that way for long, Penthesilea was determined to fix that. She was the rightful Queen of the pack and she would bring them back together or die trying. Whether the wolves accepted her as their queen or not did not concern her. She had been giving the role by the previous queen and she would do as instructed, bring the pack back together.
Feathers on her head bobbed gently as she moved along. How far the other wolves had traveled since the pack dissolved was a mystery. She carried herself straight and tall, there would be no slinking through the trees like she was a no good omega. Penthesilea knew her rank and was not about to hide that from anyone. Stopping at a small brook to take a drink, she lowered her head, lapping up the cool water. Soon she would need to hunt, but for now she would get her fill of water.

Glacier had been wondering for some time where his mother had gotten too..shouldn't she have come back by now? He could remember her last word to him 'stay here and hide', could remember watching her ice blue legs pad away from him through the foliage, and her pale eyes turn back to look at him one last time before darting off through the trees. But that had been a few moons ago and the little pup was starting to get well... a bit more then just a little hungry.
And despite his best attempts Glacier couldn't help but let loose a small whine as he smelled another wolf near-by, a female..perhaps she would feed him, while this hope flickered through his mind he wasn't quite brave enough to come out of his hiding spot just yet.

Head snapped up at the sound of the whine sending a few water droplets flying through the air. She almost switched into her battle mode, something that had been ingrained into her being since she was a pup. But that whine had not been from an adult, no she knew by it's pitch that it was a pup. Turning she took a few steps in the direction of the sound, beads waggled about on her legs. Eyes narrowed, as she bent her head down to look.
Penthesilea could see the hints of blue and white from underneath the bush, but the pup seemed a bit hesitant to come out. "Come on out, there's no need to hide." She told the pup gently. Deep down she may be a vicious warrior, but she did indeed have a soft side as well.

Glacier looked out through the leaves, his vision filled with a somewhat confusing array of feathers, beads and wolf. huh...well that was interesting - and she certainly wasn't his mother, but she'd spotted him and there didn't seem to be much point in hiding anymore, and her voice didn't sound all that scary. Crawling forward Glacier slipped out from his hiding spot in the bushes and glanced a the pale wolf before him, his tail was tucked in and he found he couldn't really meet her gaze for very long before wanting to whine again.
Her voice might not be scary but she herself was a rather strong and confident wolf - one that any pup would find just a bit overwhelming. "Hello Miss"He greeted the wolf - it seemed wise to be polite.

Penthesilea held back a growl as the pup showed himself. A weak little male. She was not very fond of males, at all, that was the way of her old pack. They were useless except to help create puppies. She should have known, only a male pup would be weak enough to hide in a bush. The way he tucked his tail in between his legs, it was quite pathetic.
Brow furrowed in thought. This pup was alone, or at least he seemed to be alone. There was no scent of a mother nearby, or any other wolves for that matter. Still a weak little male would only slow her down. Peering down at the tiny thing, she showed him her teeth, not quite a full display but enough to intimidate him. Bring the pack back together. Those words boomed in her head again. Well she wasn't about to reform the pack starting with this little twerp so she turned and began to walk away.

Glacier's eyes widened as the strange female snarled at him, now she looked mean and he cowered slightly in response, eyes pinched shut as though expecting her to dart forward and bite him at any moment. It didn't happen however and when he heard the sound of paws retreating he risked taking a peek. Nope she hadn't eaten him - but she was leaving him. Alone.Again
This thought made a whine escape his maw again and he stood up in a surge of bravery, taking a few steps after the female. he might look mean and act mean...but she hadn't killed him right? that had to mean something. He could at least ask her if she'd seen his mother...or maybe he could follow and she'd let him eat the scraps from her kills. It had to be better then sitting here alone forever.

The whine stopped her dead in her tracks. She may hate males as the worthless sex that they were, but he was just a pup. And like it or not, Penthesilea could not let a pup die. Turning her head to the side she saw the pup take a few hesitant steps towards her. Well perhaps he wasn't as weak and pathetic as the rest of his gender.
Letting out a sigh she felt like she was going to regret this in the future but for now she would let her weakness for pups get to her. "Are you hungry young one?" She asked, trying to make her voice not as intimidating as she knew it could sometimes be. "What's your name?"

Glacier wasn't sure if he was happy she'd decided to take an interest in him or not - he couldn't erase the vision of her snarling fangs from his mind, but he didn't want to sit here and starve either. It was probably best the little pup thought to himself if he just behaved himself and didn't make her angry. He chanced a slight puppyish wag of his tail and moved a few steps closer before answering her. "Yes Ma'am" He told her truthfully "I haven't seen my mother for days, I am Glacier" He told her, a hopeful lilt in his voice as he spoke of being hungry. By the gods above please let her feed him!

Part of her wanted to nuzzle him softly at the mention of his missing mother. But she couldn't give in too deeply to this pup loving emotion. Pup's grew, became adults and in the case of this little male became slaves. At least that's what would happen in her pack. "Well Glacier, I am Penthesilea." Have fun with that mouthful she though quietly to herself.
Turning she began to walk away, only this time instead of just leaving him she turned her head to look back over her shoulder. "Come on then, we can hunt together." Perhaps that would get him to follow, but she down right refused to let such a small pup help in the hunting, especially a male. She would feed him, after that well she wasn't sure. Could she really have him tag along while trying to find her old pack members, and new ones for that matter. "Any preferences?" Not like his preferences would make that certain prey suddenly appear in front of them, but this was the best she could do for small talk.

"Pentha...Pen-the-sila...Pen-the-silEa" Glacier tried to repeat the long name she had given him to remember - he thought he did pretty well in pronouncing it in the end and looked at her hopefully for approval as he trotted after her. "Mother never taught me to hunt yet" He told her as he trailed at her heels "But I don't care what we eat, I'm not picky" he assured her - right about now Glacier was pretty sure he would gnaw on a log if he thought it would help.
"Are you from a pack?" He asked, he was pretty sure the feathered wolf wouldn't want him to be such a busy body - but he was a puppy, and puppies sometimes just couldn't help themselves when curiosity arose.

She let a small smile cross her maw as she listened to him do his best to say her name. Well it didn't take him long to get it right, but remembering it would be a different story. Glancing down at the pup as they walked she took in his small frame. "That is because you are too young to learn the skill. In time, you will grow and then hunting can be taught to you."
Penthesilea didn't have time to answer his question about the pack before she spotted a good meal up ahead. She came to a stop and held her front paw out to stop him and pushed him off to the side. "Sit, be quiet." She told him before slowly padding off. Penthesilea had learned a long time ago how to move quickly without causing the beads on her legs to rattle and give her position away.
Disappearing into the trees, she stalked her prey for a few moments looking for the perfect moment to spring her attack. The large hare was sitting near the edge of a clearing, munching away at grass completely unaware of the fate that was about to befall it. Bursting out of the trees Penthesilea Was quick to grab the hare before it had a chance to get more than a few feet from where it had been sitting. Once the life was choked out of it she returned to where she had left Glacier and dropped the hare not far from him. "Eat." Once she was certain that he was busy with eating then she would answer his question about being in a pack.

Glacier nodded slightly when she told him he was too young to hunt - she must know what she's talking about he thought as he eyed all the feathers on her head - if she didn't know what she was doing how on earth had she killed the birds to make that? "someday" He agreed in a wistful tone - he couldn't wait to learn to hunt, it always seemed so exciting and he was about to tell her just that thought when she pushed him off to the side and told him to be quiet.
Hunkering down slightly he watched as she padded away - somewhat fearful that she was leaving him again until he noticed her posture change to that of a stalking wolf and his pink eyes flew ahead to spot the hare. His mouth watered and his stomach growled at the thought of the hare and he all but panted in excitement as Penthesilea rushed forward and ended the rabbits life.
It didn't take much encouragement on her part to get him to eat when she dropped the rabbit in front of him,Glacier dove on the dead animal like a creature possessed, tearing great chunks and swallowing them nearly whole. It wasn't the most polite way of eating - but it had been days and he was quite literally starving.

Lowering herself onto her haunches Penthesilea sat tall as Glacier tore into the hare. She knew he would, he looked half starved already so he would be easy to convince to eat something. Giving her head a shake to adjust the feathers before taking a moment to explain whether she was part of a pack.
"I was part of a pack a while ago, called Antianeira. Though some infighting happened when a blood heir was not produced and there was some disagreement on who should be the next ruler." She began her story, though it did bring up both happy and sad memories for her. "The queen was injured in the fighting and died not long after. Before she died she passed on the leadership of the pack to another and instructed them to bring the pack back together."
Standing she began to pace back and forth a bit recalling those words once again, Bring the pack back together, my Queen. "Since that day I have been searching for my pack, to bring them back together and unite them once more. As their Queen they will either accept my leadership and rejoin the pack or deny it and be outcasts." Her pacing came to a stop as she looked at the pup. "New members are welcome to join if they wish. If you want, you may be one of the first to join. I cannot offer you much as you are male, but you will have a safe place to sleep at night and food in your belly."

After the first mad rush settled his hunger somewhat Glacier slowed down to enjoy his food a bit more and listen to his saviors story. What an interesting tale and why she was a queen! And here he had been making her hunt for him and following her about like she was just a regular wolf...how awful of him, though surely she wouldn't hold it against him...he was only a pup after all and he hadn't known. vague memories of his mother whispering to him the importance of a queen surfaced but those stories had been told when he was very small and Glacier could not recall any of the stories details.
Thoughts of his missing mother made him sigh slightly - he missed his mother, even if he hadn't been the most kind hearted of wolves she had taken care of him, well until she disappeared. Penthesilea might not be a cuddly warm mother figure either - but he could certainly do worse then a queen for a caretaker, a full belly and a safe place to sleep seemed like a mighty fine deal to a wolf pup who'd been alone and starving only a short time ago and while he might not understand exactly what he was getting himself into it was good enough for him right now. "I would like for you to be my queen" He told her sincerely.

At his sigh Penthesilea reached out with her paw and gently cuffed him on the head. "You must be strong to live within my pack. Do not so easily fall to your emotions. I know you are young, but if you do not start now then you will be too weak to stay with us." Well she certainly wasn't the most mothering wolf but this pup was not of her blood and was a male, so he best get used to being beneath ones paws now instead of later when it may be too late.
A slight smile crossed her maw as he agreed to be part of her pack. Well it would have been better to have a female member to start off with but the pup would do for now. Penthesilea was determined to find others soon and if this pup slowed her down - well she might not be that forgiving. "Now listen well Glacier. We will be traveling much to find the others. I expect you to keep up with me, don't complain that you are tired or I may just leave you behind. I will make sure that you are fed each day and you will get the rest you need at night." She fell silent for a few moments as she thought over some things. "When you are done we must head out." Penthesilea finally broke her silence as she glanced down at the disappearing hare carcass. She would eat later, for now as all as Glacier was full she would hopefully have his undivided attention for the rest of today's journey.
