  The snow fell softly on the clearing near the Kawani village. Mali sleepily opened her eyes, the morning sun hitting her and making her draw her head back into the shade of the tree. She stretched her legs slowly then gently nosed at her mate's side. "Morning love." She yawned sleepily and looked over towards the baskets that were being sheltered at the base of the tree.
Her eyes went wide, the brown basket had broken open. She quickly walked towards it, sniffing and nosing at the broken pieces. The foal it had contained was no longer there. "AVERY!" She jumped backwards in fear, looking every which way in the field, her ears perked and her nose sniffing in every direction for a sign of her foal. "One of the foals is missing Avery, wake up!"

Avery was a slow riser as he wasn't much of a morning horse. But when it concerned his baskets he was the first on his hooves. He sprung up and looked over to the shattered basket.
"Well best go out and find her then." He nodded carefully. "But somebody should stay here- we still have one baby in the basket."
A little nose poked out from under the lid. He was alot less bold then his sister. More like his father, rather lazy and immature for his age.
Moss took a hoof and gently raised the basket lid off so that he was completely exposed to his parents. "I dun wanna be left behind!" He sprung out on wobbly legs and ducked in and out of his mother and fathers long legs.

As a first time mother Mali was still in a state of panic as one of her little ones was missing. Seeing her son emerge from her basket brought great pride to her heart but she was so overcome with fear that she couldn't bring herself to encourage Moss. "We have to find her!" She started to dash to the edge of the clearing towards the two-legger village. As she reached the end of the clearing she suddenly skidded to a halt. "Ziya!" She screeched.
Ziya walked along beside the two-legger, she was frowning and pulling at her leash. She grumbled as she watched the tall male human that had tied a rope about her neck and who was now dragging her back to the clearing.
"I think this one belongs to you." The man said with a nod towards Mali and Avery.
Ziya bounded away from him as the man lifted the rope from her neck, running to her mother. "Momma momma." She whinnied, "I went on an adventure, we were gonna get more suga' but this two-legger stopped us, he's mean momma."
Mali took a deep breath trying to collect herself as she watched the two-legger walk away from the clearing. "Never, ever leave without telling us Ziya!" She looked down at her daughter in disbelief, not sure of the proper thing to do now.
