She hummed a tune to the trees and wondered aloud between tweets, "Maybe music will bring spring quicker!" It was such a lovely thought, that maybe if she immitated birdsong flowers would erupt from the ground faster than the wind could blow - indeed, go along with the wind! The imagery brought a pleasant smile to her lips as she trotted aimlessly along the small brook that had been her companion for at least half an hour; not that wolves could tell time so exactly. The sky was a clear blue today and lifted the femme's spirits, for she had been in such a muse slump lately that she had almost bordered onto depression - and Eden was not a characteristically imaginable Debbie Downer.
So perhaps nature was sensing this and allowing her the comforts of a beautiful day. "Maybe, like rosebuds, it'll take time to grow," she mused with a little nod to herself. "That's all. It just needs time . . ." That's it! Today, she would be a gardener! Her tail wagged with happiness as she pondered over just what a gardener would do now . . . But of course! It was her duty to think of ways to welcome spring, and what better way would that be but by planting seeds? Father had mentioned a pack of Roses, in fact . . . So this would be like training. She lowered her nose to the ground and began to sniff out for patches of flowers.
"Wait . . . do flowers even have seeds?" Oh dear.

Between the leaves, through branches and bird nests and everything else that obscured his view, he ogled the black wolf and tried to make some sense of her inquiries. Nose to the Earth, quite a look to her face and a bubbly tone that lulled him just like his sisters once did Illidad pushed against the shrubs mindlessly and thought on about what she was doing and why it was he ended up here in the first place. His restless antics might have startled her but surely he did not care.
Blame it on the gene pool, that swirling mix of goodies and badness that usually ended in quite the lovely and well-rounded canine. For Illidad and the socially retarted, mentally handicapped, and clinically insane bunch of wolves he called family; the best part of their traits usually lied in the beautiful fur colorations. That was all he could account for, if he was every told what account meant and why it really mattered.
Even so, Illidad had no intention of harming her regardless of his own handicap. He would wag his tail playfully when hers would wag, and he would mouth the words he knew well enough in order to mimic the girl. Watching the dark hairs along her body shift even caught his attention; it excited him! He found her beautiful, like how the sky was beautiful and how the language all wolves spoke was beautiful. He felt nothing along the lines of instinctual attraction, an apparent sign of his own ‘retardation’, as some would say.
"Illidad play too?" He whispered, startling himself in such a way that a child would have been while playing a 'silent' game. The words came out much louder than he had expected, but hopefully the pretty black wolf would ignore him like all the others had.
And even if she didn’t and his voice scared her very much, there was no chance of her spotting him if he flattened out on the ground and tossed some leaves and dirt over his body!

"Hmm?" She had heard the stamps through the brush and thought nothing of it in her idyllic little fashion until the culprit was right upon her - oh, one of these days that would get her killed! Or worse! Wait, was there something worse than death? Regardless, the male's "whispering" tone did not help tone down Eden's initial shock, and she recoiled slightly in response as was her skittish nature. "Wh-Wha?"
Where had he come from again? Oh, right, the brush crackling.
"Oh, um, well, you see - " Ah, that was a bad start! "I-I, er, want to plant some seeds," Eden restarted timidly, looking at his paws, "to help plant flowers. Spring's c-coming and all, y'know. I thought it would need help in settling again." What was it that he had said? "Ill . . . i? You can help if y-you wanna. I'm trying to find seeds, y-you see. Know where I can find some?"

Illidad’s body jerked to her voice, head popping out from the shrubbery and gazing toward the wolf in question. She mentioned something, and although it had been said just moments ago; Illidad had to think hard on what it was.
Then, like godspell the wolf jerked again. This time he bound forward and into the open where his tail swished to and fro heavily. “Illi?” He replied, a long pink tongue lulling in excitement. She knew his name; his childhood name! Forget the fact that he had told her who he was two seconds ago, this wolf was a friend.
Pushing his ears forward, Illidad could feel the tingle of contentment fall over his body entirely. Had he been nervous just moments ago? Well, now things were alright. His sister would be pleased to know he met with a friend of theirs, and with this in mind the thrill of doing some good swelled.
His hairs rose high along his neck and down his spine while his forepaws and toes tightened and gripped the dirt. “Illidad knows where seeds are! I-Illidad knows!” He spun around on his heels then and disappeared into the foliage, leaving the bush in reckage behind him. A moment passed when he appeared again, his tongue caught between the front of his teeth and touching his lips.
“Illidad a-asks you to come! Illidad find seeds!”
As he sank into the leaves again, it did not occure to him that he did not know what a seed was...or where he would find one.

Awww, it was like watching some overgrown pup romp about! Eden giggled girlishly despite herself, the nervousness dissapating somewhat as this Illi - Illidad, she corrected herself - agreed to help her. Ah, what luck! So she was doing Spring's doing after all! He was like some . . . living pumpkin. Yes, a pumpkin, Eden decided with a little smile and nod to herself, for he was orange . . . enough. Or maybe a squash? Hmm . . .
"A-Ah, wait!" she cried out when he disappeared, but thankfully Illidad returned with another quick beckon, and she trotted directly after him to make sure that they did not separate. "It's b-better to have two pairs of eyes than just one!" Ack, not so loud! She'd scare off the seeds. Tilting her ears back sheepishly, she went on in a lower tone, "Call me Eden, Illidad, and thanks for helping me. Those seeds just love to hide under everything, right? Do they h-have a secret hideout of some sort?"

Whipping his head back, the lug was pleased to see this dark lady following closely and whispering to him directly.
It puzzled him somewhat, the words she spoke and how quickly she moved through sentence to sentence, but it only meant he would have to let a long and rather awkward pause pass between them before replying. A hiding place?
"Illidad knows." He retorted confidently, finalizing that he did not want to disappoint Eden. Sure things were moving fast, first the meeting and then his abrupt departure followed by a hunt for seedlings; but for the male things could not be trudging along more steadily. His head ducked beneath branches as his body swerved with uncanny prowess. For a handicapped boy like him, motion did not seem to be an issue.
He came to a stop soon after their initial greeting, nose to the soil just as Eden's had. There was a desperation in his eyes, the way his breaths were heavy and wafting constantly were also apparent and rather unnerving as his large tail swung at the nearby barks of trees in the excitment.
Eden reminded him of Marsy, his sister who had been out of his life for several weeks (if not longer). She was one of the only wolves he had learned to love and devote his strengths into, and the kindness that was shared between the siblings was endless...This wolf, a stranger to his eyes was not so much a stranger to his heart, and the stillness that had come over his life needed familiarity to be cured.
Rummaging through the Earth, Illidad drove up a mound of dirt with his snout and grinned goofily. "S-s-seed." He spoke aloud, far less worried that he might frighten anything off.
What was out in plain sight was not nearly what Eden might have been searching for, but in some ways worked the same. It was poop.

And what better way to pass the time searching than by humming a quick little ditty? Eden might not pride herself on a great tone quality, but boy did she hum with the gusto of one who was professional: some nonsense tune she liked the pattern of, trilling like some newborn chick to the rhythmic pound of her paws upon the ground. Like she was a trumpeter heralding Illidad's presence! Oh, how wonderful Spring will be!
Only . . . His find wasn't quite what she imagined it. Ditzy as Eden was, even she recognized the scent and sight of the dark mound, and she grew a little nauseous and dared not get too close. "I-I . . . well, that's certainly a find, Illi," the femme told him with a light smile, nose crinkled, "but not what I'm looking for. Seeds are smaller and harder, the things flowers and trees grow from. Almost like berries! But not as tasty." She spoke slower, herself belatedly beginning to wonder if perhaps this was needed to convey her intentions more clearly. "Know any . . . acorn trees?" Those always had acrorns lying about, right? And acorns were seeds, yes?

There was disappointment riddling her face, all but lost to the vigorous wag of Illidad's tail; Surely there was substance in the pile that would work to her advantage--yet she frowned, drawing back a bit through her compliment. She was so confusing!
Marsy had once told him where babies came from. They started inside the belly where everything was warm and every meal was given without much effort at all. Eden's mentioning of flowers recalled the memory, as it was Illidad often wondered whether or not flowers came from wolf bellies as well, or if life worked that way at all. The concept was difficult to grasp, just as many things Illidad confronted seemed to be. Yet in this moment all that popped into his head was a stomach. And a flower within it.
Edens' in particular. Was hers holding a flower? Perhaps she simply was not aware of these things...Or was and decided it a great idea to play a trick on him. Eden also mentioned a tree with an 'acorn' which was nothing he had ever heard of before. Acorns were everywhere, but for Illidad they held no meaning without prior knowledge of it. Trees, as she continued to inquire of, were those large brown things with green heads. In fact the things they stood next to now. Doubt flooded his face, ears twitching and rotating back slowly while he tried to make sense of her needs. His body began to flail a bit, nose back to the dirt while he scavenged for the very last time...
Then the male concluded that these flowers she needed and acorns she asked for where out of his reach. She sought after something he could not obtain; the worse way to lose a game.
"Illidad loses. Can't find anything good; Illidad can't."

"Oh hey it's alright, Illi," she said with a little soothing smile, slipping further into her gardener persona . . . Or wait, perhaps . . . "Garden of Eden!" she yipped triumphantly without warning, a sudden shift from her soft voice earlier. "I'm a gardener of Eden named Eden too! Oh, yes!" And it was as if suddenly she knew exactly what to do, and hte dark femme positively brimmed with inner satisfaction that showed in her white smile to him.
"I know where some are, actually, totally forgot until this, um . . . revelation? Let's go with that. C'mon," Eden told him with a movement of her tail for him to follow after her, trotting further into the forest once more with a new Spring in her step - and oh, how she laughed at the pun! "Here," she said after a short time of walking, tilting her head up to view the small copse of acorn trees and their fallen acorns strewn about. "We need to get a lot of these. Can you help me with that, Illi?" Well, if he had stayed with her, of course.

"Eden!" Illidad seemed to shout in both repetition and pleasure. She was Eden the Gardener!! It looked as if she knew just what to do, reassuring him of this and despite his failure and how sensitive about it he might have been, everything absolved from existence except the acorn hunt.
Illidad's nose came close to Edens rump, mostly out of excitement but a part of him worried he would lose sight of her. There was that contentment again, rubbing off of this wolf as if she were the word itself. For whatever reason, he didn't want to miss out on the sensations...it hadn't occurred to him that eventually their adventure would end, however subconsciously there was a bit of worry.
His sight lit up the path before them and soon was setting flame to the scattered brown seeds covering the soil.
"Eden wants help? I-Illidad help!" Of course he would help her! Scampering forward and sliding in the dirt, he began picking several up in his mouth and shaking them about playfully.
“Eden want many? How many Eden? How many?”

Eden couldn't help but laugh, a cheery bell-like sound bright like silver. She was truly touched that a wolf she had noly just met would be so willing to help her. "Awwww~ You're such a great helper, Illi! I'll say we need . . . need five for now." They needed lots of room to grow, right? She trotted forward and sniffed out a few. "I'll take three and you take two. I know a good patch of soil by the river we can plant them in." Saying this, she stuck the dry seeds to her tongue and snatched them into the confines of her cheek, one larger than the other as she grinned at herself and began to lead them to the north.
Eventually a river's glad splashes were heard, swollen from recent rains. Eden padded to a particularly muddy oval she had scouted earlier, dropping the wet acorns upon it and inspecting the soil with her snout. "Soft . .. wet . . . They'll grow for sure!" She hoped. Gardening wasn't a specialty. "Now to dig them holes and bury them in with spaces in between."

His jaw began to ache, a cramp tightening the muscle and locking his teeth in place; the acorns within his mouth trapped there during the walk.
Having watched her take up a couple and then stride off in the opposite direction, Illidad had panicked. Scrambling to gather and hold several within his cheeks, the male had an acorn trail behind him as each popped from his grip and rolled along the forest floor. He tried to salvage a couple, running around with his mouth ajar and tilted to the side in what looked to be a frantic dance, but the attempts failed miserably and left him with features tightened in agony.
When Eden finally stopped by the river there came a muffled bark. Unhinging his teeth with careful, painful precision the wolf let three acorns tumble to the soil, his pants haggard from stress.
But his eyes watched Edens with apparent happiness, tail lifted and wagging when the struggle seemed to have slipped his memory. From left to right he hopped, paws imprinting the moist earth while he prepared for her next move. "Dig?!" he barked, dropping each elbow and his torso to the ground, rear shaking in the air.
"Il-Illidad dig good!" His response was simple but true. The boy had a talent for digging, among other strenuous tasks that some wolves could not muster. His muscles had thickened with age, his brute strength going unnoticed at times as his lumbering form destroyed many of natures beautiful meadows and plains with but a tail wag.
Then without so much as a warning the male whispered breathlessly in all the excitment, "T-Thank you, Eden. You are very nice to I-Illidad." And through the flustered expression, he managed a smile. He was, in a very innocent way, flirting...! Who would have ever seen it coming?

Of course, being the ditz that Eden normally was, she did not see this as much. Why, it was jus ta heartfelt thank you from a stranger with an odd way of speaking, and frankly you just didn't get that all the time. So of course the femme gave him a warm smile like her earth mother counterpart would like as she did, tail wagging in response. She didn't seem quite aware of the pains the poor boy had taken to bring the seeds over, only that they were indeed here and that he was eager to dig them in. "Awww~ Illidad is much more nice to Eden," she insisted, "because he is helping her replant the forests! Not everyone does that. Now . . ."
She prodded small indents into the soft mud, each a good distance away from each other to allow them to grow. "I think this will work," she said when finished, stepping back. "You dig the holes and I'll put the seeds in after you. Remember, the hole doesn't have to be too big, just about, um . . . as deep as your head is big!" Eden decided with a grin. "And the mud is loose, so it won't be too hard to dig." Not that he looked like many things were hard for him if he put his mind to it.

He did not quite understand it either, flirting being so uncommon for him, and yet he knew that he liked it. Because of this Illidad would continue to do so subtly.
There was a childlike touch to the grin on his face, a dumb sort of gesture that could make any stubborn adult chortle. He was thrilled to be put to the task of—well something, anything at all! For so long he had wandered the forest looking for nothing and finding it everywhere he turned…Eden’s words did not go unnoticed, his attention all on the female as she finalized her speech and gave Illidad the ‘Go’. It was then that his paws drove deep into the soil, wrist crooking while the strength of his thrust yanked mounds of sand from the plot.
“Illidad” he huffed while he dug, having to constantly think about not digging too deep or too wildly. “H-help Eden all the t-time!”
Slipping past her and rounding the next paw print, he dug and dug until his heart was content…and then he dug some more. Once all the holes had been created, the wolf took a step back and lifted his head to view the lot. The grin remained, as it had throughout the work, and with a chuckle he turned to Eden and barked.
"Do-one!"

Oh, when was the last time work like this was fun? Actually, that's a funny thing to think when I'm not working at all . . . Suddenly Eden felt bad that she was letting Illidad dig for her when she could just as easily do so herself, but the large male seemed quite ready to do so, what with the grin continually plastered on his face even as he grunted and yanked at the ground. How odd to find someone who liked to work . . . And he said he wanted to help her all the time! What a peculiar thing to say when they had just met.
She might have pondered on this more had not Illidad called her to do one, at which she started. "O-Oh yes, of course! Tum teh tum tum tum . . ." went the idle rhythm of her tongue as Eden looked for an empty spot, trotted over, and begin to dig. She was not as fast nor efficient as her new friend, but she was content with her hole's width and depth after about half a minute's worth of trying. "There we are~ Though you did a way better job than I did, Illi, I should've helped more . . . Now," she said, looking to Illidad with a nod. "Let's put the seeds in the holes, and then we'll cover them up with the dirt we dug out. The rain will handle the watering for us."
