Maria was still a little shaken from the meeting whit the woman, and when her nightmare the night after was even worse, her mouther gave her the day of. Maria didn’t really want a day off. She would rather be in the café working, for the her mind could concentrate on something else.
But now she found herself walking on her favourite path in the forest behind her home, listening to the rustle over her head and the birds sing. The sun was shining and everything smelled nice thanks to the rain from the previous day.
As she walked her mind wondered back to her last dream. It was as the others, just that the monster nearly eat her this time. She could still feel the hot breath to her face from it. A dark forest, something chasing her, and then that woman who saved her. She didn’t know if the woman was the same as the one she met yesterday, but she was pretty close to a match.
Maria lost her thought for a moment when she got to a little lake and a little pond. The sun was shining right on it, and she felt calm inside. She sat down on a rock next to the water, and just looked at her reflection. It was so peaceful and quiet.
Too quiet...
-“ Nice place to get away from it all you have.”
Maria jumped and looked around herself. And there she was, the woman from yesterday, standing some meter from Maria, leaning to a tree and looking at the water. Maria stood up, feeling her heart race away. The woman now looked at Maria, and smiled.
-“ You don’t need to be afraid of me.” She said.
-“ Who are you? What are you doing here?” Maria felt her body shake, but she needed to know.
-“ Haha, straight to the questions.” The woman laughed before tipping her hat and bowed slightly. “Name’s Annie. And you?”
Maria watched Annie. She must have been about 20 something, and Maria now saw that Annie's hair was really purple when the sun was shining on it.
-“ Maria...” Maria said at last.
-“ Maria Huh? that's a nice name. Same like... what was his name? Oh yes, Jesus mother, right?”
Maria looked at Annie and wasn’t sure if Annie was fooling whit her or not...
-“ What are you doing here?” Maria then asked. “What do you want whit me?”
Annie looked at Maria, before she sighted and walked to the little pond.
-“ I came here in looking for something to do. Then I met you, and now I’m looking to see if you need help.”
-“ Help?”
-“ Well you have just met you’re monster, right?”
Maria’s head was spinning, and she didn’t know what to think.
-“ M-monster?”
-“ Yeah. People who has made contact whit they’re monster usually see when other people who can control...”
-“ Now hold on!” Maria said, putting up a finger to Annie. “What monster? What the hell are you talking about!?”
Annie titled her head a little, before crossing her arms.
-“ Why are you so afraid of me?” She suddenly asked, her voice filled whit seriousness. Maria swallowed and looked down on the ground.
-“ Well...It’s kinda stupid, actually...”
-“ Tell me.”
Maria scratched her head, ashamed.
-“ I...I have seen you before... In my nightmares...”
-“ Nightmares?”
-“ Yeah...”
Annie was silent a few moment, before walked up to Maria, who jumped to the side. Annie sat down on the rock that Maria had been sitting on before.
-“ What do I do in you’re nightmares?”
-“ Well... Not much actually...”
Annie patted on the rock next to her, showing Maria would sit down.
-“ Tell me. Details.”
Maria sat down next to Annie, and started to tell about her dreams. About the forest, the big dog that chased her, and then the woman who looked like Annie. After the story, Annie looked at the pond, pondering about it all.
-“ Hmm, interesting dream...”
-“ Yeah... But I wished that it would stop tormenting me...”
-“ Can you do something for me?”
Maria looked at Annie whit questioning eyes.
-“ What?”
-“ Next time you dream about that dog, stop and ask what it wants.”
-“ How am I suppose to do that?”
-“ You can if you try. You can do anything in you’re dream.”
-“ But... it’s just a dream.” Maria laughed, but stopped when she saw Annie's face.
-“ Believe me. Dreams are a part of you, a big part. So don’t you ever say something like they don’t mean anything. In some cases, they can mean everything.”
