so i was leveling up my pally in prot because the heirloom weapon i have is a sword(yes, that was the logic behind it) and decided to give the dungeon finder a try to see what kind of stuff you get from the satchel. had to do tank since i was nowhere near a town and i must say i didnt do half bad. usually i stay away from roles where you're 'the guy' because if you're the only one of something and something goes wrong it's all on you. well the first dungeon was SM's Cath and i wont count that since everyone was just runnign around and attacking everything they could find(the dungeon finder is a horrible way to learn how to tank) but the second instance was more traditional. absolutely no wipes(i divine shielded in SM and got a warrior killed because of it. come on, it was my first tank job, how was i supposed to know that they will just leave you if you bubble?) and i was the only one who got below half health the entire time.
i swear, if my first toon ever wasnt a rogue i probably would have had a hard time. lord knows how much aggro that little b*****d stole before i learned how to properly dungeon crawl(...well i'm technically still learning on him)

best part about picking the tank roll?
you get picked for a dungeon within ******** seconds. i swear, iw as on feathermoon server the other day and waited an hour n a half before an instance popped up as DPS. averages out to about 15 minutes on scryers. god is it nice to just jump right the hell into an instance.

so what was your first trip into tanking like? was it fun? horrifying? full of dillholes who ragged on you for every slight?

Whenever I put on my Tank gear I warn the group, "Be warned, I might suck." and it always surprises me when I get the end boss and there hasn't been a wipe.

But yes, the insta-queue is awesome.

yeah, i always let people know that i might suck. its the least i can do.
hell was running on my 34 druid and queued for sm armory and the pally tank wouldnt even use consecrate or, you know ANY ability. and he didnt even say anything or take any advice as to what to do. and the time before that in RFdown, the pally tank was ret specced and had his 2h out. ended up saying ******** it and switched to bear and got us almost to the first boss before another tank came in

I tell people, "hey, I might be terrible," but I usually do pretty okay in the end. I only do that on my warrior tank though--paladin tanking is far too easy to mess up. Warrior tanking is way more fun biggrin

I've found that "hey, I'm a new tank" works better than "I might suck" (even if you aren't really new), because people are more willing to take it slow... especially if you're a prot warrior. But, good job. Tanking can be really stressful, and it feels like there's a lot of pressure on you. I don't think I'd ever be able to play a low-level tank.

well im usually given loads of praise(especially tonight) because i actually have a shield. thanks to the df, being just an 'okay' tank is a godsend to groups because im usually inserted halfway through an instance run because the last tank they had was rocking a 2-hander and isnt even specced for tanking, they just said that so they'd get in fast.

so the stress of tanking isnt as bad as it probably was before the df system

Not necessarily true. It's far easier to get away with douchebaggery now, because you're usually paired up with people from different servers you'll never see again.

Though, I should give it a try on my druid. He's feral anyway. Leveling feral and popping into bear = instant tank (for low dungeons).

yeah it is.but i already talked about the ease of picking up some lower dungeons on a cat-to-bear set up

[ "私は永遠に、あなたを待っている残るよ..."]

My first experience tanking was scary, especially learning on
a death knight. It was horrifying at first and I use to ask my boyfriend and our GM how I was doing ever other pull. But after a while I started to get better and better and I was able to hold aggro quite well for a Frost tank. Popping cool downs when I had too (when I started taking major damage and I pulled an extra group of adds for the healer to get a little worried.), Pulling adds LoS, and positioning bosses became routine. 3nodding

I'm pretty much a seasoned tank now. I'm also leveling a prot paladin - its pretty easy to keep threat in my experience with them. 3nodding Its not as diverse as tanking with a DK, but its different and fun PLUS it takes less than 10 seconds before I'm in a dungeon. Life is good as a tank. cool

my dk is dual-specced for frost but that's really only because howling blast is the s**t in pvp. havent tried tanking with him any but now i'll probably give it a try.
was planning on making a warrior when Cat comes out and, now that i got a bit of the tank bug in me, i'll probably try and see what tanking warriors is like

as for LoS, i finally started to play around with it and how it works. it is a rather awesome mechanic.... if your group lets you complete it(DF has its drawbacks)

tanking on a pally doesnt mean your not a bad tank lol in fact it means you probobly have the least skill of tanking then any other class in the game! how i know this? i have 3 different tanking classes. first, my prot warrior ive had since prebc, 2 my DK who i 70 twinked for BC raiding, and lastly my pally that im currently leveling and is lvl 65. Now in your head you must be calling me a hypocrit since i myself have a pally... yup i thought so! but the difference is, i have been a tank on 2 different classes prior to it and have been hugely successful in raid progression in all 3 ( pre bc, BC, and WOTLK ) and experience + knowledge of the game encounters plus the fact that ive been an officer in some of the top guilds in the U.S. ( example : Death and Taxes * the original * ) pretty much comes down to the fact that i can tank on pretty much anything and kick a**!
