My ma told me what they say will come true. They prolly think the Death card means death(it means the end of something) so they are scared.

Have you found out how to work them already? You can probably get some info about it if you google it or something. 3nodding

There is no history that goes behind them, other than the fact that they replaced "The bones" from way back when those were used. The bones were being far to crude of a resource that they choose cards to do readings instead.

Unfortunantly, that is all I know about Tarot cards, currently. I will post again if there is anything else that I learn.

Visit this site.
The Hermitage: Tarot History
It's a site dedicated to the history of Tarot

Actually I'm practicing reading the tarot... I have my own tarot deck but I don't really believe in it. I just do it for fun although some of my readings did come true. whee

As a Christian, trying to see the future through any forms of divination is not really allowed... but then I'm not taking it seriously, so I don't see anything wrong with it... hee hee sweatdrop

I've been doing readings tarot for 6 years and I specialize in tarot cards. I could shed a WHOLE LOT of light on this subject.

first of all, tarot is NOT A GAME! don't play around with this stuff. it's dangerous. if you don't believe they actually work then don't go near it. it's like a ouija board... someone doing it that doesn't believe it opens up tonnes of doors for scary things.

next, your first deck should not be bought yourself. it should to be given... this doesn't neccesarily mean as a gift, it could be that you're both shopping and the other person pays for your deck but either way, it should not have been attained with your own money. any stolen magickal item is powerless. after the first deck one can buy decks / make decks or whatever with their own money but the 5th deck and the 10th deck etc. after needs to be a gift again or it upsets a balance.

a tarot deck is yours and yours alone. don't let other read with it. if you are doing a reading for someone else then they can shuffle and pick the cards etc. for more accuracy but don't outright lend it to someone.

people are generally attracted to things they are likely to be good at and have the channels for when it comes to psychic abilities. if you like tarot cards, then you are most likely someone with foresight, hindsight or clairvoyance and this appears as tarot reading.

the longer you have a deck, the more bonded to you it becomes and therefore the more accurate your readings become. one should purify their cards upon getting them and usually with tarot cards anything element other than fire purification could damage them >.> light inscense and pass each card BOTH SIDES through the smoke in a clockwise direction then carry the cards with your everywhere for the next 24 hours.

each deck of tarot cards gives off different energies. if you have more than one deck, do not read the other expecting it to be exactly the same or your reading will be off. if you have more than one deck, do not favour one deck over another. tarot decks are kind of like children in that manner. remember that some decks are better for certain types of readings like haindl is more of an interpretive deck for the reader and the lovers tarot is probably better for relationship questions.

the accuracy of the cards are always debated and controversial... some say that they are faultlessly accurate IF current situations stay the same AND if the the reader has read the cards properly and therefore it equals to be 80% accurate. Some others say that the future branches too much and therefore they only show the most probable route. either way, this means that the further into the future you are inquiring of the cards, the more vague it becomes.

the past is different, it has already happened so these are always accurate. never ask a question of any one deck twice in relatively close times... wait a few months but you can ask the same question to different decks.

don't read with too many decks! if you have decks but don't read with them it's ok but if they are bonded to you then it's ok but keep in mind that anything you own will bond with you at least somewhat no matter what. if you are bonded to too many decks at once then the energies will start getting very confused and fight each other in you which could cause problems.

here's another thing, don't get too obsessed with them... don't let the cards run your life, don't consult them on every little problem. a full reading for everything is no good but something simple like the 'one card draw' in the morning to see how your day will be is pretty good.

that's all I can really think to say right now but if you've got more questions then I'll answer them.

as a side note, the death card means 'end of old things and a beginning of new things or a rebirth of things forgotten etc.' and in some decks, like gendron this is called 'transformation'

keep in mind that the most widely used deck is rider waite but THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO USE IT!!! every deck is not for everybody. you have to find decks that suit you... you should like the artwork etc. and the most accurate deck you'll probably ever have is one that you make yourself.

I must sound like an old fation person here but Tarot cards are the devils work, they only tell 3/4th of the truth. They will lie and deseave you, its just like using a wija board. I sugest don't use them and through them out, they alow negativity and bad spirits in to your house and in to your soul...
