Fake FlowersWhen the flowers are fake
Can the love be real
Or does it all just fade away?
When the flowers are fake
Are they as beautiful
Or is there no beauty at all?
When the flowers are fake
Do they have a meaning?
When the flowers are fake
Do they last as long
Or do they wilt twice as fast?
When the flowers are fake
Can the love be real?
Alright then.
It was a good idea, a conflict very common to romantic girls who recieve fake flowers from their boyfriends. It was a good job at following the thought process of a love hanging in the balance.
The major conflict I had is that poetry is the use of words like paint on a canvas rather than descriptions on a page. There are so many kinds of paints available for poetry such as connontation, metaphor, charicature, irony, and so on. Your poem was more like descriptions on a page than paint on a canvas. It was a very good description, but a description none the less.
What I would like to see in future works from you is a little more poetic devices in your work. There was a suggested metaphore for love with the use of fake flowers, but you can develope it so much farther with more use of more poetic devices.
A good place to start in begining to develope a poetic work, is thinking to yourself "how can I convey this in fewer words?". It's a good place to start. The thing I learned in studying poetry is that you can write an entire paragraph on the meaning of a single line of poetry with respect to the rest of the poem.
Even if you don't change anything in your poem here, just try playing around with some poetic devices and see how it changes your work.
You can theoretically learn to be a better writer through study, but it is much more efficient and easy to become a better writer through study of other writers. If you were to study some other works of poetry similar to this one, it may help you in painting your canvas with a wider range of colors.
