This is a Private Roleplay for

Rivener (Aphismet)
and
Zul (Chrystali)

Time: mid-day on a weekend
Location: Durem
Weather: Sunny and mild
PostPosted: Sat Mar 06, 2010 5:18 pm

Rivener stood outside in the sunshine, staring at Aphismet with a look he hoped wasn't too vacant. It was nice enough out that the Sigel wore only a light jacket, not even bothering to zip it up. Aphismet wore overalls covered with paint, all kinds of tools hanging from loops and belts. Behind the chef was a half-built gazebo, a gift he'd promised he'd build for Isi this year. It was about this gazebo that Aphi was currently prattling, holding open a Do-It-Yourself book and pointing at the page, trying to get Riv to look... The Scorpion glanced down. Some kind of nails and screws... fine and dandy. What was this all about anyway? Riv was tired, he didn't want to just stand here listening to Aphi go on and on...

"-and I can't go, Isi will be back tomorrow so I gotta finish this damned gazebo before he comes back! So you have to take the money from my wallet inside, and go into Durem to buy this, okay?"

Oh! The Sigel perked up. "Okay!" he agreed, instantly excited. Zul was home today, and it would be SO much fun for them to go on an errand into the city together! "How much should I take?"

"I don't know, like 50-60$... don't dawdle, okay, I need that plane sander soon!"

"Yup, plane sander, got it!"

Into the house Rivener zoomed, pausing in the hallway to rifle through Aphi's wallet, pocketing 60$. "ZUL!" He called at the same time, sounding all too pleased and enthused. "Zul, come here! We're gonna go into town!"

He'd been spending the majority of the day sifting through his woman's musical collection. Ever since they'd moved, he hadn't had much time to play with the gift she'd given him for Christmas - a burnt orange iPod - and now that he had both the time and presence of mind to do so, he discovered he didn't have that much music on the small player. Alex had given him permission to sort through her vast library of CD's with the promise that he wouldn't take them out unless he was going to use them, and it was there in his 'room' that he didn't use that he was floating, sky-blue eyes turning over the black-wire rack that housed more CD's than he'd seen in one place. Fingers traced over the clear spines, taking out the ones that sounded interesting or familiar and looking at the cover before putting it aside or putting it back in its alphabetical slot.

The Sigel's voice was a welcome distraction as he peered between the F's and the G's, two CD's in hand. Putting the cases down so he wouldn't forget where he was, the demon floated out of the spare room and down the stairs, an intrigued smile on his tanned face. Zul extended his arms to the Scorpion as he found the Sigel, slipping them beneath the light jacket and against the less-clad torso, tucking his wings against his back and nestling close, smiling up at him. "Where to?" he asked amicably. It didn't actually matter where they were going, only that Rivener said they were going and thus, go they would. The destination, in this case, was not near as important nor as interesting as the journey.

Rivener beamed the moment he spotted Zul, accepting the Frei into his arms easily, nuzzling against the top of the burn-edged hair and giving a brief hug. It was so wonderful, getting to be with Zul any time of the day! ...Well, assuming they were both home. Which didn't happen as often as the Scorpion would have liked. But that didn't matter now, he'd not think about unpleasant things today! Today he DID have his Zul with him, and they'd get to go out together!

"To Durem!" Riv said, hugging one last time then prying them apart gently, lacing his fingers with Zul's and pulling the demon towards the front door. "We have to go buy something for Aphi! An errand!" By the way he said it, Rivener considered this more of a date than an errand.

Riv hummed to himself as they emerged into the sunlight, keeping the happy song on his breath all the way to the bus stop thirty minutes away from the house. He stopped here; they'd be a lot less exhausted if they didn't fly. And with all this extra time together, they could talk! There was so little Riv knew about what Zul did all day anymore.

Both ruby eyes turned towards the bare-skinned demon, a blissful smile splitting Riv's features. "Where are you all the time? I hardly see you at home, we must work completely different hours."

The demon practically purred under the attention given to him, his smile turning lazy and satisfied. The choice of destination made his dark brows lift with curiosity, though that too was sated as Rivener offered up the reason for the errand to that city. Zul had only been there once or twice before he started to work; the prospect of going with Riv, no matter the reason, made his chest feel light. Twining his warm fingers with the Sigel's, he nodded and allowed himself to be lead into the sun and away from the marsh-bound house. It was a beautiful day; with the warmth on his crown and the company at hand, he found it unnecessary to wrap himself around his Scorpion as they made their way to the bus stop.

Bone wings rattled as they came to a stop, flexing and beating just light enough to carry him upwards an inch or so before settling again, feeling as though he could fly half the world around and not pause for rest with Rivener at his side. Continuing to hold the Sigel's hand, he considered the question, tilting his head to the side and nodding his affirmation. "You're always out for long hours," he lamented, vibrant blue eyes meeting those ruby reds, "but you are so happy lately. It makes me feel good."

He hardly knew what to do with himself, actually having time with Rivener! There was once a time where they'd scramble to steal time and precious moments, and now that they lived together and still saw each other sparingly, he felt a simple sense of gratitude just to be in the elder Raevan's presence. Was this growing up? "I help one of Alix's friends in Durem," he explained, conscious of his vocabulary as he often was around Riv, "a gaffer named Neil. He has the most amazing way of speaking, like his words aren't whole." Zul smiled to himself, reflecting on the friendly but somber Irishman. "When I'm not there, I'm at the Lab with Alix and Zeke."

Pausing for a moment, he gave the Scorpion a look that was almost sad in its consideration. "At night, you're not always home. Then I just lay on the roof or look around the marsh." Zul gave himself a mental pat on the back for speaking clearly and in full sentences. He hoped he would impress Rivener as he continued to learn new things, adding to his growth.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 06, 2010 6:09 pm

It was hard for Rivener to realize Zul made progress with his vocabulary, since the Frei had been doing his best to speak well whenever around the Scorpion. Still, today's words were whole and wonderful enough that the Sigel noticed. He grinned broadly. "Your speaking skill is getting REALLY good, Zul! I really enjoy hearing your voice, I'm glad you talk so much." He chuckled to himself and gave in to his urge, hugging the demon one more time.

"I AM happy lately! My job's getting interesting, and the money is REALLY good. Although I'm sorry it keeps me out so late sometimes... You lay on the roof? ...waiting for me?" Zul might just have meant he was relaxing up there, but the Scorpion dared hope his beloved was up there looking at the stars, counting the time until Rivener returned.

The bus pulled up then, trundling to a slow stop in front of the pair of half-torsos. This was a sight the driver was used to, so he didn't spare the two a glance as they got on, Rivener choosing a seat by the windows near the back. The bus was always rather deserted as it did its rounds in the very rural area, leaving many seats to choose from. "What's a gaffer, by the way?" Riv asked, tilting his head at Zul, wanting to know more about what kind of job he'd been recruited for.

Zul practically preened; his wings rubbed together and he allowed himself to float higher for just a moment before gliding into those arms, returning the hug affectionately. He truly did his best for the Sigel, always hoping it would be enough, even if he himself felt like he should be doing more. A light sound that could have almost been his version of a purr escaped him in gratitude, smiling at the Sigel with lidded eyes; he'd not soon forget that compliment!

At the question, he withdrew a hand to run through his hair, somewhat sheepish. "...yes." He'd watched Rivener enough to know that the Sigel would go out onto the patio and tilt his head back to the sky and feed - what had started as a simple mimicry and interest in that part of the Scorpion had turned into a fond way to pass the time for him. "You're so tired when you get back," he said by way of apology for not telling him sooner, his smile softening to echo that sentiment. Zul always wanted to greet him and ask how his work was - which he assumed the Sigel was doing - but he'd kept to himself, guilty, as if he wasn't supposed to know.

The bus doors whisked open and they took their seats, Zul without a preference so long as he had his good company. Settling with his wing tips tucked over his shoulders, he felt a small thrill up his exposed spine at the question. He never thought he'd be knowledgeable about something that Rivener was not! "They are glassblowers," he said in a prideful tone. "He designs and makes windows for big places like banks and fancy restaurants. He's teaching me how to make glass, not shape it, that's his job." The demon neglected to mention that he also made small glass figurines - something he hoped to surprise Rivener with himself, someday.

But with that question came the same to turn back to the Sigel, Zul turning a bit to better face him. "What do you do now, Rivener?" he posed the question with a tentative expression. He was mostly certain that if Rivener had wanted him to know, he would have told him, but something about the time of work and how tired the Scorpion usually was made him pause again. "If you don't want to say...that's fine. I understand." Yes, the Frei thought to himself: this truly was growing up, to not know everything and accept it with a full heart irregardless.
PostPosted: Sat Mar 06, 2010 6:36 pm

The Scorpion felt his insides burst to life with a thousand butterflies at Zul's quiet admittance that yes, he was waiting for Riv. The broad grin lasted until they sat, and Zul continued on to describe what a gaffer was. It sounded so interesting! Zul was helping a man make windows and such? Rivener always thought that kind of thing was made by machines in some plant somewhere! How wonderful! The Sigel made a mental note to go visit Zul someday while he worked, to see what a gaffer's place of work looked like.

"Sounds like you have a lot of fun! It really does sound interesting!"
Riv's grinned faltered a bit at having the question redirected at himself. He wasn't sure he felt comfortable telling anyone the nature of his job yet, but he didn't want to hide anything from Zul... Perhaps a half-truth would do, then. With a proud look in his eye and a rustle of his strong wings against his back, Rivener declared: "I'm a bodyguard now. I get paid to protect someone." There, it was the truth. Didn't matter what that person's job was: Riv was a bodyguard, and that WAS the truth. "I get to run around town with my client, and everyone thinks I look pretty bad-a** so they don't mess with us much (that's really fun, seeing people's faces when I glare)... And it pays really well! Sometimes we stay in and play video games, and I get paid for that too!"

"And, uhm... How come you never came to see me, if you waited for me on the roof all those times?" He just couldn't let it lie after all, he wanted to say something about it. "You can come see me, you know, when I get back from work. Even if I'm tired. I'd like to see you." The dark Sigel offered a lazy, affectionate smile, lifting a hand to rake fingers lightly through Zul's hair.

"It is fun, and -" there was only a brief hesitation while he scrambled for the word he wanted, "gratifying." Anything that allowed him to expel his powers without destroying something was good in his book! Zul's smile remained in place, even when it seemed the Sigel hesitated to answer him - though that idea was quickly pushed aside in favor of surprise (and a healthy bit of admiration) as the Scorpion puffed up with pride. Mmn, but he looked so good when he was happy!

The demon nestled in closer as Rivener explained his job, tilting his head back to look at the Scorpion with intrigue and something odd in his chest. He wasn't yet fully used to the concept of concern, though it was thick like a miasma against his heart. "Protecting sounds dangerous," he commented to himself, though it wasn't in a negative or unfavorable manner. He still remembered their first meeting to this day, telling Rivener he was dangerous and attractive. The sentiment still stayed with him. "It suits you." How could he express the strange tightness in his chest? Zul uttered a low sound before he settled for, "Just make sure you come back home to me." Whoever he was a bodyguard for would need a lot more if the demon thought for one second that Rivener was hurt from his work.

Satisfied, he tilted his head to listen to the next question, surprised as it rounded back to him. He stared at Rivener unblinking for a time, the smile easing the tension in his chest until he was simply happy and comfortable to be against the Sigel. The fingers certainly did wonders to brush away any confusing thoughts, doing his best not to turn to mush at the affection; as it were, his eyes lidded heavily and his smile took a lazy curve, his voice filled with more smoke than usual. "I didn't know if I was supposed to know you went out," he admitted in a tone of voice that was more pleased than his words should have been; such was the effect of his weakness being exploited.

"Just wanted my Rivener to be happy." How did that saying go? Something about shoes fitting, but he didn't wear them and thus it was lost on him. Searching through his pleasure-addled mind, he tried to make his own comparison. "And Rivener is happy, so...I don't want to - " a brief pause while he searched for the word again, " - compromise that."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 06, 2010 7:02 pm

Rivener felt warm all over. He chuckled and ran his fingers through Zul's hair again, a reward for making the Sigel feel so happy and floaty. "I'd be even happier if you had come to see me. I'll always be much much happier to have you there with me, no matter the time." The Scorpion offered Zul a tiny kiss on the cheek as the bus lurched to a stop, a small ping! announcing their destination had been reached: Durem downtown.

Rivener took his time getting off the vehicle, fingers entwined with Zul's and moving along lazily, smiling to himself. Aphismet had said to hurry, but what did a few extra minutes matter? Riv wasn't going to rush this errand in the least. "I'll make sure to come back to you every single night, Zul. And protection might be dangerous, but I'd think it's so boooring to just have a regular job. Like, me behind a counter selling macdonalds? No way." Rivener snickered, unaware that his job was causing Zul any kind of worry.

Together the pair floated a few streets down, and eventually Rivener paused, blinking. He'd forgotten what that thing looked like. A plane sander? It was a construction thing, right? So... a hardware store? All he remembered were pictures of screws and nails... Clearing his throat and glancing at Zul, the Sigel continued on his way, keeping an eye out for a hardware store. He didn't want the other to know he was clueless...

"So what about when you go work with Alex at the Lab? Is it boring? Do you think I'd be able to visit you there sometimes? Since I'm home during the day and you're not, I could just follow you."
He grinned, wings flapping with enthusiasm at the idea. He could just take matters into his own hands and MAKE time to be with Zul!

Just like that, their little love bus had come to a halt and it was time to move on. The demon was also in no hurry, but he also was unaware that hurry had been any type of word in conjunction with the errand to be done; they were doing someone a favor, so they were free to take their time to do it. Right? Right.

Zul actually laughed at the idea of Rivener working a fast food joint. He could just see that terrible polo shirt on the Raevan's lean frame, trying not to look menacing as he took an order. He was able to think a little more clearly without those fingers tangled in his hair and short circuiting his ability to function, responding, "I'd come order everyday!" He grinned ear to ear, shaking his head to himself. No, they were made for greater things than human jobs. He was confident Rivener would find his place, even more satisfying than protecting some human's life.

He didn't notice the sidelong glance, too caught up in his own mental imagery of living such a menial existence. The next question was welcome, the idea of working fast food evaporating for later consideration. "I mostly just read magazines," he admitted, his tone slightly disappointed but not disdainful. He learned many a thing by those odd pieces of paper! "And if not that, then I--" There was a brief pause while he considered; did he really want to come off as sentimental? The idea surprised him, shaking it off. What did he care? "--I watch the other Raevans in the tubes. Talk to them, sometimes." The demon's expression brightened at the notion of having Rivener come to work with him, slipping tight to his side and squeezing the hand that held his. "I'd like that! Either place! But...not the Lab, not...yet."

Zul hesitated for what felt like the millionth time. Who else did he have to talk to about it...? Did he really want to ruin the mood? Deciding not to, the demon wore a wide smile, brushing aside the last warning. "There's a lot going on right now. I just try to stay out of the way."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 06, 2010 7:33 pm

Rivener laughed, amused by the mental image of Zul scarfing down fast food. He'd turn into a chubster, ordering macdonalds every day! And it was unhealthy to boot! Good thing Riv didn't work there, then.

The laugh dimmed to a subdued smile as Zul went on to describe his usual day at the Lab. The demon sounded so... hm, Riv wasn't sure how to describe it. Zul sounded much kinder than Rivener ever gave him credit for. The Frei would watch the tubes with growing Raevans inside? Talk to them? It was rather sweet. Zul must have forged many a connection to newborns Rivener had never even met yet. That thought brought a small insecure frown to the Sigel's face: what if Zul liked someone else more than he liked Riv one day?

Shaking himself free of these thoughts, Riv instead turned a smile just as forced as Zul's, both wearing the false expressions with practiced ease. "There's always lots going on at the lab, isn't there? But if you tell me I shouldn't go there now, then I won't. ...Did you want to talk about it? I can listen, you know."

They passed a hardware store, but Rivener just kept on floating, pretending he didn't see it. He hadn't recalled what the heck a plane sander was yet, and he didn't want to go in without at least having an idea. He didn't want to look foolish in front of Zul. "Hey, do you get paid for working with that gaffer person? Maybe someday we could go somewhere you and me, alone for a few days! Like a vacation! If we both make money, we can save up for that." Riv's grin was a lot more sincere now, wings flapping excitedly again. He LOVED that idea, as sudden as it'd come to him. Hopefully it would lift the mood from whatever "things" were going on at the lab...

The demon exhaled quietly, considering the questions posed to him. He didn't want to ruin their good mood, he really didn't...but rather than spare Rivener that spoiled moment, he decided to go with the truth, something that was rather unusual for the rather selfish Frei. "Dayo was infected," he offered up quietly, "and never treated, until recently." There was another pause of silence before he added, "She's dead. The one who woke up isn't her." Zul's expression contorted with mild distaste before it smoothed out again, his own thinly veiled opinion on the matter. His friend was dead. The one who looked like her...it wasn't Ekundayo.

"I killed another one by accident. She's almost reborn too. That's why things are hectic." He had less difficulty in admitting to killing the other Frei than he did to the loss of his friend; the one who died wasn't his. Ekundayo wasn't either, but he had fancied them to be alike, two predators at play, and now...

Lost in his thought as he was, he took little note of their surroundings, instead squeezing the Scorpion's hand and moving on as if he hadn't said anything of consequence. "Yes, he pays me." He still didn't get the concept of gold as a means of currency, but he did understand exchange for service and goods. At the mention of a vacation, however, Zul's entire demeanor lit, a bounce in his floating height and his wings flapping with Rivener's albeit lower. "Just us?" he purred, letting the smoke fill his voice with a touch of honey - something he'd picked up from the Sigel, that he used only for the Sigel. "I would like to spend time with my Rivenerrr...alone." He might have been young, but he was picking up on the cues he'd seen - soft banter between their Guardians and Rivener's own voice - adding the hint of suggestion to his words.

The errand was completely forgotten. Nothing could have possibly been more important in that perfect moment than planning a future with Rivener, even if it was something as simple as a vacation. To Zul, it meant everything and deserved his full attention.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 12, 2010 2:05 pm

Riv was shocked to say the least to learn of Dayo's "death". His expression opened up in a gasp of sympathetic pain, with more than a little disappointment mixed in. He'd liked Dayo a lot too, she was a curious and funny girl... Zul continued on to admit that he'd killed another Raevan, and while that was one of the few things Rivener found taboo, he didn't blame Zul in the least. The infection had been a crazy time, and it had more than likely been an accident. The small squeeze of his hand was happily returned by the Sigel, who turned a little smile towards the demon-frei that he hoped could be read as "encouraging".

"I'm sad to hear about all that, but it's no one's fault. The infection was horrible. Sorry about Dayo..."

Whatever somber mood had settled on the pair lifted almost instantly as Zul became excited over the concept of a vacation. Riv's own grin returned, only to falter in the face of Zul's sexy, sultry voice. The Scorpion actually blushed lightly, fumbling around for the ability to form words... He was stunned speechless. He'd never wished he had a lower body before now, but holy hell, Rivener now wished they BOTH had lower bodies. He'd have his hands down into Zul's pants right this instant.

As it was, the Scorpion breathed a little heavier and offered a rather sultry smirk of his own, floating closer to his Zul. He'd quite forgotten his errand as well. "Mmmh, yes, just us, my delicious Zuuuul. All alone in a hotel room by the sea or something, no one around to bother us..."

As though on cue, Rivener's cellphone rang. Growling angrily, Riv pried himself away from Zul enough that he could shove a hand into his pocket and retrieve the damned cell, flipping it open and barking into the receiver. "WHAT?"

Rivener! Where ARE you, you're taking so long!

Guh, it was Aphi. Riv sighed and glanced around, spotting the hardware store from before a few streets back... "I'm nearly at the hardware store. We took the bus, we'll be back soon."

Well take a cab back okay? It'll be faster!

"Yeah, yeah." Riv clapped the phone shut and sighed dramatically, turning around and tugging Zul along gently. They should go into that store, he figured. "Stupid Aphi," he grumbled, cursing the need for this errand in the first place.

The notion of 'where' was becoming wholly unimportant, both in regards to the forgotten errand and their yet-to-be-planned vacation. All Zul cared about was having his Rivener with him, finally, their time; all he saw was that smile and those crimson eyes that swallowed him and made his skin feel warm in a way that had nothing to do with his power. The demon lifted the hand not entangled with the Scorpion's, preparing to get a good feel of the elder Raevan's stomach, but the phone decided to rip their little paradise in two for the moment. The disgruntled feeling that settled in his chest left a bitter taste in his mouth, though Rivener's annoyance gave him some sense of being mollified.

He felt the tug and followed for a moment, but gave a tug of his own to try and stop the Sigel for a few seconds. "Wait." His hand lifted again, gloved palm against Rivener's cheek, floating a bit higher to kiss the Scorpion right there on the street and not giving two shakes who saw. The intimate gesture was slow but firm, pointed; no matter how obnoxious the errand might have been, it gave them time together. Time the demon sorely desired. "Okay. Now we can go." Zul was intensely pleased with himself, settling at Rivener's side for the remainder of the journey to the hardware store.

"What is it we need?" he questioned to keep them on track. He hadn't asked to begin with - and maybe he should have - but that was because he was too intent on spending his small slice of heaven with the Scorpion. Now that he'd satisfied that urge somewhat, he could be more helpful than a lovesick puppy.
