Kyler sat on a bench in the playground. There was a crepe stand nearby, and he had just enough for a couple crepes, but he, unusually, wasn't in the mood. A month ago, he was with the love of his life, but his love loved another. This made Kyler feel very awful inside. He didn't know what to do. Kyler didn't know if he should love again, or if he should just give up on Edes altogether.

Hooray! All on his lonesome for once!
It was a rare event that Ferox managed to get a chance to scamper down to the park alone and unescorted. Surprising, considering how often his guardian Leraje claimed not to give a damn about him, but then proceeded to watch him like a hawk. Odd, but Ferox was used to his father's contradictory nature.
He was too busy enjoying the chance to play on his own anyways. The playground he had decided to head to was relatively close to the sad corrugated metal shack he called home for the time being, and he was not surprised to see it sparsely populated. No matter! That meant he didn't have to share the swings!
Initially, the pridespawn made a beeline for the portion of the playground he loved the most, but something caught his eye. Something red and purple and totally worth investigating! Abandoning the swing for the time being, Ferox changed course for the bench, where to his mild surprise he found the purple and red things were actually wings! Ooh!
"Hi!" Wings obviously belonged to someone, so he thought he might as well be friendly.

Kyler's ears perked at the cheerful greeting, and he turned around. Looking at them more carefully, you can easily tell that his eyes had no pupils in them. The Lust boy smiled a little, "Hello..." Tui(the right tentawing) 'looked' at Ferox like she was interested in him. She began to move towards him, and she looked like she was asking to pet him. La(left) just inspected Ferox from away, but still trying to coo Kyler.

"Hi!" Ferox repeated the greeting as enthusiastically as before, grinning at the stranger. "I'm Ferox! Who are you?"
He hadn't seen the stranger around before. Though... not like he could say that with much interest or pride. He really was never around the playground enough to claim to be an expert on the usual denizens of the place. This winged stranger could have been coming here every day for all he knew.
With the typical attention span of a child, Ferox pointed to Kyler's wings, obviously unaware of the other's blindness. "Hah! Your wings are funny. Can you fly?"

Kyler smiled a little, "My name is Kyler... These are my tentawings, Tui and La..." The boy only smiled, but shook his head, "Nope... My big brother says that they might carry me away somewhere, and I wouldn't know how to get back home... So, they don't know how to fly... But they keep trying..." Kyler sighed, and put both of his legs on the bench.

Kyler. Right. Ferox nodded as he mentally recorded the name, and let his head bob twice more as he took note of the... er... wing names. Wings had names? How crazy! He'd never heard that before. But then again, he didn't know many people with wings. SO.
"They keep trying?" Well. OBVIOUSLY they weren't doing a very good job at it, now were they!? Ferox had to suppress a snicker at that. Hah! Wings that couldn't fly. Who'da thunk it?
A pause. Conversation was not one of Ferox's strongest suits, but he was too interested in Kyler at the moment to slink off and return to his original plan of the swings. "So, what're you doing in the playground? Are you waiting for someone?"

The boy giggled a little, "Yeah... But they keep trying to go different ways... They have minds of their own due to the tentacles on the ends..." Kyler sighed when he heard that question, "No... But I wish I was..." He put his chin on his hand sadly. Tui reached over and gently petted Ferox. She didn't want to frighten him, she just wanted to love on him. La continued to pet, and message Kyler's shoulder.

Tentacles? Now where had he known those before...? Some memory tugged at Ferox's mind, but he could not quite place where. Oh well. He would worry about that later. One of the tentacles (Tui, right?) started petting Ferox, to which the child giggled and squirmed with delight. "Hey! That tickles!"
Blink. "Eh? Why?"

Kyler giggled, "Tui is the friendly one... La mostly likes to be with me..." He sighed again for the response to the other question that Ferox asked, "Because... I got my heart broken..."

"Heart broken?" How did that even work? Hearts didn't break, or so Ferox had come to believe. First off, they were monstrously hard to get to. One had to fight through ribs to get there, no? Or was there a trick to it? "How'd it break?" He was intensely interested in the idea now. Daddy always said to watch and listen around you for ideas. One might learn something. And all this talk of breaking hearts sounded like it might be something worth learning...

Kyler lowered his head, and sighed again, "I was once in love..." Kyler interlocked his fingers and sat there in silence for some time, "I thought he loved me, too..."

A pause. "My daddy says love is stupid. He says its a waste and a weakness that makes for easy ex- exploytashun." A nod. He thought he'd heard Leraje right in that. "Maybe you was exploytashuned."
Well, like, duh. Ferox was too little to understand the whole weave of romances and love, and what little knowledge he'd had was passed on through his father's terse (and often warped) descriptions. Ferox honestly thought he was being helpful though. "You should be more careful."
