Prologue

Nestled atop the cliffs that rise from the sword coast, the citadel of CandleKeep houses the finest and most comprehensive collection of writings on the face of Faerun. It is an imposing fortress, kept in strict isolation from the intrigues that occasionally plague the rest of the forgotten realms. It is secluded, highly regimented, and it is home.

Within these hallowed halls of knowledge your story begins. You have spent most of your years of life within this keeps austere wall. Under the tutelage of the sage Gorion. Acting as your father, he has raised you on a dozen tales of heroes and monsters. Lovers and infidels, battles and tragedies. However, one story was always left untold, that of your true heritage. You have been told that you are an orphan, but your past is largely unknown.

Lately Gorion has been growing distant from you, as if some grave matter weighs heavily on his heart. You have asked about his concerns as gently as possible, but your queries have been in vain. Your sole comfort is the knowledge that he is a wise man, and you know he will tell you when the time is right. Nonetheless, his silence is troubling, and you cannot help but feel that something is terribly wrong.

Today, Gorion has appeared more agitated than ever, and now he has uncharacteristically interrupted your chores in the middle of the day. Imparting hurried instructions for you to equip yourself for travel. He has handed you what gold he can spare, but given no clue as to why. Nevertheless, you now stand before the CandleKeep inn, ready to purchase what you need for an unplanned and unexpected journey.

What did the BG games use for stat generation? If you want to keep it kinda original then Standard fantasy point buy would be more appropriate.

I so want to be supporting cast in the PC team biggrin . Is that what the level 2 staring folks are going to kinda be? Like those characters you recruit after the initial intro level.

Now your going to likely feel the need to throw heavy and/or sharp objects at me in a second when I mention the alignment I want to play. *Readies tower shield.* Okay, Chaotic Evil Human Fighter. ninja That doesn't mean I'll play it with a dedication to spread chaos or evil, just a man with almost no regard for rules and that includes social taboos against violence. He won't go around punching or killing every random person he meets, he's not going to be a sociopath character. He won't even threaten violence on party members... much . sweatdrop

Considering that the party has free rain of what they desire to do, this is an openly awesome campaign.. (Hopefully my DM skills don't let me down) lol.

I'll allow it, aside from that, I know that you're a very experienced, mature, and awesome person/dm/player.

So yeah, Go ahead man, Chaotic Evil Human Fighter it is.

Also, yes, the higher levels will be sort of like supporting cast.

Just like how in the game you met your friends at the Friendly Arm Inn.

Hey, maybe they'll meet you at the Friendly Arm Inn!

>.>

I agree with you on the 15 point for realism, but at the same time, when rolling stats randomly... I could get some Damn nice ones if I got really lucky or spent three hours rolling >.> Lmfao.

15 sounds more realistic though, so I might lean towards that.

I'm curious Brasten, should I allow the Advanced Players Guide Beta Book Classes, or should we just try and stick to the basic classes that they allowed in the game.

What would be cool and great for story is if player characters are given agendas by the DM behind the scenes to further the plot much like the betrayal of Yoshimo in BG2. I'm loving this concept I'm so down but i have to learn the pathfinder system i know 3.5 back and front but I'm oblivious to pathfinder.

One APG classes. only if someone really really wants one, I'd wait for someone to ask for them. Mainly because there will need to be an understanding that they are actually test classes and to fully realized. When the APG comes out later this year there will likely be even more changes to those classes.

Roll for HP?

First brush stats are up for Spiker HP total is not accurate and assumes average, no gear, and standard stats (will update is the vote is for higher).

I don't necessarily see a need for separate agendas, party fragmentation can be fun but can also be hell to DM. Its the reason why I'm not playing a backstabby CE.

Their really isn't much to relearn. The two big changes were to Skills and Grapple.

Skills are now ranks, no x4 at 1st level. If a skill is a class skill you get a +3 bonus. No Cross-Class payments! For example Spiker has Acrobatics (jump/tumble/balance) for 2 ranks. His total check is 2 + Dex (3). Like wise he has Knowledge (dungeoneering) which is a class skill, 2 ranks + Int (1) + Class (3).

Grapple has been replaced with the Combat Maneuver Bonus. This is a single roll of (BAB + STR + mods) against Combat Maneuver Defense (BAB + STR + DEX + mods). No strength checks or odd ducks. This also applies to all maneuvers (trips, disarms, bull rush).

Another new aspect is the change in the favored class system. There is no XP penalty. You pick a favored class at first level (most races have two to pick from). Any time you take a level in that class you get either +1 HP or +1 Skill rank, your choice. As a human Spike can pick any class as favored, which is Fighter no duh. I've choose to take +1 skill ranks for both 1st and 2nd level, because I liked skilled characters. Woot for 5 skills (2 + human 1 + int 1 + favored 1).

There are other minor changes, no xp for crafting magic items, more robust poison/disease/curse rules, changes in classes/races/spells, etc. But if you know 3.5 back to front with closed eyes on a moonless night... Pathfinder will be easy to pick up. It is still and OGL/d20 variant just like d20 Modern, Stawars pre-Saga edition, but closer to 3.5 D&D.

Link in my sig should bounce you to It's Pathfinder and from there to the PFRD (pathfinder online SRD).

Okay, I'm gonna go surfing through my books and narrow some stuff down.

Brasten, just to update you, I'll be using the 15 point buy. So you're good.

We'll be using Faerunian Regions.

So that's not a problem.

For anyone that wants to be a spy.. well... Just PM me..

I will ONLY allow a single player to do this, and this is keep in mind an optional position.

lol

For those of you who have played Baldur's Gate before, well, that's cool. If I get anything wrong you could help me out maybe, lol.

If you haven't played it, I suggest that you DO NOT google about it. You'll ruin the story-line for yourself. Aside from that, I'll throw in some changes here and there, and also, keep in mind, the game was like 1st and 2nd editions. There are changes, so it won't be like the game was.

So if you're trying to cheat or meta-game.. it won't help you much if at all, and aside from that..

Cheating and Meta-gaming will not help you with Me....

Started reading, but never finished, the book version of the game script. Oh, forgot the Conversion Guide as a direct link for those who have not looked at Pathfinder before but have played 3.5.

I've updated the main post with a bunch of useful information for making your characters.

I need people to tell me what slots they want.

We need more players, so far I believe we have 2-4.

I'm going to try and update some more later, Brasten, look at your sheet now.

So yeah, I was bored, and we needed this anyway. Soooooo

Quote:
The Sword Coast has been thrown into chaos.
Wars wage from the South, and North, and the lands surrounding the famous city of Baldur's Gate have been thrown into the sorrow.

A recent plague of sorts has struck the surrounding lands of Baldur's Gate. In a land once renowned for its resource of iron, the supply now hangs by a thread.

All things iron have become brittle, so weak that even the daily use of such items as forks cause them to crack and crumble.

Trade Caravans coming with Iron from non iron-plagued regions have been importing the valuable resource for the citizens of this land. However, bandits that lurk within the woods of the Sword Coast have been attacking these Caravans, not for their Gold or Jewels, but their Iron. None the less, they take all the Caravans hold.

The local militant force policing the area is finding itself unable to halt the bandits due to their current lack of arms caused by the iron plague.

The local citizenry of the lands are suffering more, the farmers cannot farm without their tools, and with with winter on its way. It certainly seems that they shall starve.

Local rumors have begun to spread that the nation of Amn is to blame for the mysterious iron-plague. Some say that they are preparing to invade the surrounding lands of Baldur's Gate.

Others say that the Trading Organizations are to blame, that they are purposely ruining the iron supply so that they can make large profits with imports.

Still others blame the very Dukes of their land that live amongst the city of Baldur's Gate. Why the Dukes would desire such chaos, well those rumors haven't yet been soldified.

With the Time of Troubles over, and the chaos of the world still at hand. Can anyone halt the ever moving armies that move around the Sword Coast for dominance.

What is worse yet, is the talks of the God-Spawned, the Bhaal-Spawns to be precise.

Rumors suggest that the late Lord of Murder, the God Bhaal has passed on his inheritance to that of his mortal off-spring.

The Players:

You have grown up among the library fortress of Candlekeep. Closed off from the outside world, and nurtured within the sheltered walls. You have lived out your youth within these halls, reading, running errands, and learning the wonders of the world as only you could from within your reading room.

Your Foster father, Gorion has called upon you this day, his message urgent and haste out of ordinary. He has told you to collect your things, and say good-bye to your friends. You are to leave Candlekeep, the reason why he has not made yet aware to you. It's past noon, and you've your Coppers, Silvers, and few pieces of Gold. You've intended to run a few last errands, say good-bye to your friends, purchase what you can from your local entrepreneur, and then be on your way. As you go about your business you hear the local lore tellers singing their prophecies. They are... quite disturbing this evening. As you continue to listen to their tales, an unexplainable chill crawls over you.

"The Lord of Murder shall perish
But in his death he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny
Chaos will be sown from their passing
So sayeth the wise Alaundo"

Shaking off the chill, you resume your business and pay no more heed to the poems. Gorion has told you to meet him within the Keep's Courtyard upon the front-steps. That is what you intend to do, once you're ready.

The Supporting Cast
The chaos that ensues about the region has punished many, but it has been a boon to some, to those who are not above the law, but rather below, around, and behind it.

More to come!

Brasten, I've got an idea.

Due to your story, would you like me to give you gold to purchase items.

Or draw up a loot list >.>

In which case you could take any of the loot from your comrades bodies, weapons, armors, misc, currency.

Tis up to you, I just had a weird idea for the hell of it, lol.

Okay, according to my information if I've not read it wrong.
You get the Cosmopolitan Feat, and your choice between a Masterwork Dagger or MW Longsword, or 100 Gold Coins.

The Feat Grants a +2 on Bluff, Gather Information, and Sense Motive.

Alright, I have 4 players now it looks like.

Will need an additional 2, well.. we only need 4 actually..

So we'll keep recruiting to see if we can Maybe get 6 while I prep.

Once prep is done, we'll go regardless if we have 6 or not.

You can take a look at the gear list Spiker has. I'm still short 85 gold I'd like spend in something... I may dig into the APs and see what I can find, or maybe some jewelery. I think you'll find it an odd enough selection based on 1000 gp of 2nd level characters. Also by 2nd level and the fact that he's now back in a two will have given him a chance to sell and swap out some gear.

FYI to people joing. Spiker's primary party position is mobile wall. So there is still room for a melée warrior focused on damage.

I'll be honst I've got a combination of Zaeed from Mass Effect 2 (DLC character) and Jericho from fallout 3 in my head when I'm working on Spiker.

Oh Ho! Looks like they are not bonus feats -Throws that piece of text out the window- They are bonus feats now people. You get your regional feat as a bonus feat.

I'm liking the character a lot.

Looks like you still haven't picked your regional feat though.

Don't forget your regional item choice either.

Not sure if you took that yet.

I just checked the prereqs on the region feats for your region. I think Tireless is the only one you can take.

Not a bad feat though imo.

or wait.. hold on. Book feats differ from Forgotten Helps... >.>

Let me see if I misread wrong, don't think I did.

You also get to pick your Human Sub-race. Illuskan or Tethyrian.

And you get the Illuskan Language automatically.
