She stretched hard and fought waking up. Aekea didn't want too. She was getting so used to her roll here. She was learning a ton, and still keeping Kafele fed and making sure he was in good health. They might be mates, but she always put him before herself. Not that Aekea was complaining. He brought here here, gave her her new home, gave her a new sense of pride and love. Aekea couldn't have been happier with him, with this Pride.

Equality was something she cherished. When she saw cubs treating each other wrongly based on the color of their coats, Aekea's memories flared up and she chided them like she was their mother. It wasn't fair to anyone to be treated like that. All in all, though, the orange lioness was happy and content.

Since she couldn't fight waking up, one violet eye opened and she yawned widely. Her claws extended as she stretched once again and sighed. Was Kafele with her in the den? It wasn't even light outside, so the answer was probably yes. She felt around for the warmth of her new mate and sighed when she found it. Instinctively, she buried her face in his main and gave it a playful tug. They never played anymore, and she missed it like crazy. "Kafele.... Wake up." She whispered into his ear, nipping and licking happily after that.

The older male was in the den beside his female. He was sleeping, dreaming of their journey. Everything was finally going well for the old lion He had a lovely mate and the world finally seemed right. Now if only their could be the pitter patter of small claws on the ground. He didn't know if he was able to have cubs. He wasn't as old as some lions but he certainly wasn't young either.

But he did want them. So very much. He loved children to tell tell stories to and to teach. Aekea had expressed an interest in them but he hadn't yet told her he might not be able to provide her with them. He hoped so.

The familiarity of the tug on his ear was enough to rouse him and he flicked it in response to the lick. "Awake already?" His kind but gruff voice asked as he slid open an eye. "Its hardly even dawn." He too stretched out his powerful form, his claws scraping the bottom of the den as he brought them back to sheathe them. "Is something the matter?"

Something wrong? Why did something have to be wrong for Aekea to wake him up? She playfully bopped him on he nose and chewed on his chin for a bit before purring and licking over his muzzle. "Nothing is wrong." Every word she spoke was careful and thought out, so she didn't stutter. Surly she would get faster at speaking clearly. "Can't I just wake you up? To spend time together....Talk. We don't get a lot of time to do that anymore..."

His old wise eyes landed on her and he seemed surprised. He let her chew and play while getting his mind to work. He yawned and arched his back listening to it pop and then settled down once again. "Ah, of course... I didn't mean to seem like I didn't want you to wake me up. If you would like to talk, certainly, we can. If you would like to go for a walk we can too."

He blinked and looked out at the part of the sky that was starting to gain light and flicked his tail and ears. "Mmm, its going to be a good day. Might rain though. Red sunrise."

Rain. She hadn't played in the rain in a long time. Shuffling a bit she nodded and got up, stretching herself out once more before. "If it rains, it does. I love it..." Aekea's voice was a silky purr and she motioned him to follow her to the entrance.

Once there, she poked her head out and was, at once, smothered by the smell of rain. It was a wonderful scent; the promise of rain. "It will definately rain today. Probably very shortly." She looked to her mate and smiled a bit. What kind of talk would they have? It'd been a while since their 'more than den mates' talk. That talk got her he biggest gift of her life, thus far. So surly this talk will end well.

He glanced over to her with a quirked brow. "Do you know? I must admit I like it as well but it makes my bones ache on occasion. It is nice though."

The older lion glanced up noting that it probably would. "Yes it probably will." He answered keeping in step beside her. "So... I was considering... you are young but I, I'm a rather old lion. Well not -old- but I'm surely getting out of prime." He cleared his throat slightly. "Well, with things as they are... I was thinking we should discuss future plans. Maybe... if we want... a younger generation."

He wanted cubs? Her violet eyes went wide as she looked at him, but not with a no in her face. "....C-cubs?" She wiggled her nose and then gave a happy laugh. Ok, she breathed moment and then stopped and watched him. He would actually want cubs with someone as young as she was?

"I-I.... would love cubs! I... think it would be a good thing. I think... I'm ready."

Once again the older male cleared his throat thoughtfully. "Ah yes..." He responded almost shyly. Now there was one more matter. He flattened his ears slightly. "Ah but you see... I... its been a many years since I've....erm dabbled with a female. And my last mate was well, barren. I don't know if it was ah... because of my ability or hers."

So embarrassing. "That is, I don't know if I -can- produce cubs. It... may not work, you see. So please, don't get too disappointed if it doesn't. I'm sure another young male would offer his assistance. "

At the suggestion of another male giving them children, Aekea looked heartbroken. She wouldn't do that, ever. She couldn't! That would ruin everything. That would ruin her heart, their relationship. They wouldn't be Kafele's kids. It would just... not be right.

"I... I-I can't.... I just c-can't!" Tears stung her eyes as she looked at him, sniffling hard. "D-don't ask me to d-do that...." She rubbed her face against her paw and whined, sounding very much like a child.

The old male hadn't meant by any means to make her cry! His tender heart ached when he saw her beautiful eyes well up and he pulled her close with his paw. "Don't cry my dear, please. I won't... we will try. That's all we can do. My want for you is to be happy. If you don't wish for another male then there will not be one."

He licked the top of her head gently bringing her down to lay beside him. "Hush, my love. You need not worry. I never wish to hurt you."

Her tears slipped as he brought her to lay down with him. Aekea couldn't ever do it. If there would be no cubs, then so be it. But he said it was an option, and he said that she didn't have too. That calmed her down slowly. She rested her head on his neck and mane, burring her face into his mane. Sniffling a little more she let out a broken sigh and then gave a small noise.

"S-sorry.... I-I'm tired now..." Crying always wore the orange lioness out. Her tail flicked from side to side and she rested her head on her own paws, violet eyes closing slowly. "I l-love you....."
