Well I have been reading these threads and wanted to know what everyones version of werewolves are. It would be nice to see other versions so that maybe I could find a better version. Im not saying mine sucks or is the best, but I would like to see the Guild's Mind on this subject. Ill start it off.....
Tachi's version of the Werewolf: First and formost, the werewolf has only one form, for the rare few two. This is because the energy and harshness of this change would be to great to have another. To shifts one's bone structure from a human to a wolf-man hybrid would be..... very painful. I agree that a new wolf probably would not remember his first change and may end up killing someone, but not out of any 'supernatural' bloodlust. That much pain would most likely casue the shifter to lose control of thought and would strike out as any beast would in pain. Some may not survive their first change. This would get easier over time and it would be less likely for an older wolf to lose control like that. Over time the change would become faster and less painful with practice. As for the moon it would have almost no effect except for maybe a instinct to hunt urges them to change. But like every temptaion this can be ignored. Also, in my version of course, werewolves can only be born, not created. They are an animal like everything else, not a plegue. The fast healing that they have would rule out old age, for the cells repair themselves too quickly. Illness is almost out of the question also. But that doesn't mean you cant kill a werewolf with any normal weapon. Do enough damage that their body cant heal from the wounds fast enough and you pretty much killed it. Unlike most werewolf stories, mine work in Packs. Some packs even join togather as Clans depending on the siduation. As you can see I base my wolves medicaly, even though medical science cannot fathom reconstruct an entire bone structure in 2mins to 2hours. But thats mythology, and as stated in other threads, they do not exist.
This doesn't only have to cover werewolves, this can be your version of any creature, or even a made up one. I am looking for any races that you can give for more characters for my books and RPs. Thank you for your time.

Ah! Then I shall post!
Personally, I very much like the idea of werewolf as shapeshifter. Shapeshifters are my favorite breed/type of supernatural creatures. But there's too many versions I enjoy to pick just one! I tend to marry the shapeshifter image with whatever strikes my fancy in RP (genetic disorder, moon-crazed, psychological disorder etc), and my werewolves are also pack animals, even if their character is quite independent. Ah! I'm rambling again!
My problem is, I adore the adaptability of shapeshifters, thus, I cannot choose just one identity for werewolves, there are so many to be! So I guess, the main theme of the hoofandsnort werewolf is adaptability, as opposed to a set of defined traits.

I see. The shapeshifter can be many things I agree and a set rule of traits would be out of the question. Your version of adaptablility is very good for RPs. I like it biggrin

Hmm, that is interesting, your little piece and thoughts on what you see werewolves to be. I do love seeing variations and interpretations of this supernatural being, and being that they are in fact a work of fiction, we can mold them to what we enjoy best.
So, in saying that, though I do enjoy a few different forms of werewolf, this would have to be my favorite (one that I formed together after reading various works of the species):
You are born a werewolf; you can not catch it like some sort of virus, and in being born one, you come out as a pup. So, instead of man to wolf, you are wolf to man. I don't view them as things of a horror story; snarling, angry and blood thirsty. In a previous thread I said that the thought of a snarling beast did appeal to me, but it is by no means my favorite depiction. Rather, I like to see them as generally peaceful with respect for nature, singing praise to both the sun and moon, but as all things usually are, they can be aggressive.
Shifting... Hm. It would be painful, I suspect. I have read two stories that stated this process on two very different scales. In one, it was a long, painful process. The pain would obviously cause distraction, but your mind must stay in focus or things will go terribly, terribly wrong. The other author wrote it as a sexual experience. One of her main characters grew a boner while shifting into his wolven form, though there was no real detail as to why this happened. I tend to side with the former; that it really ******** sucks and hurts, but in the end it would be worth it, right? You may grow tired afterwords, but the endurance of their wolven forms helps them cope.
But from pup to human, at what age to they begin shifting? Does the moon take part it this? I'm not sure about age, but as for the moon, I believe that perhaps there is something about it that energizes the wolves. They do not need it to have the Change take place, but it can make them stronger. I've always loved how wolves and the moon are tied together, and I find this this be fitting in a way. There is no real basis to it, just personal preference.
Now for silver, ah yes, silver. To me, it's basically like an allergy. I believe werewolves are strong with a high tolerance to pain. It takes a lot more to bash their skulls in and kill them than it does a human, but why should silver have a higher effect? Cause the poor things are deathly allergic to it. That's my view and I'm sticking to it!
I'm probably missing some things, but I might have written to much. XD My bad. But really this is my favored view on werewolves. Any form will make me happy though, in a story or a role play.

I haven't heard of them being allergic to silver, but that makes a lot of sence. I like your version and I believe I read a few books by an author that said the Change was long and painful. Would this Author perhaps be Patricia Briggs?

Yup, that's the one! But it only makes sense, right? The piece with the guy getting a boner is unofficial. I read it on deviantArt. You can read all of it here but I'll take the direct quote:
Quote: Fur rippled then exploded over his skin as his bones lengthened and ground within his body. Muscles and sinews contracted and lengthened to accommodate the new structure, and pressure in his teeth and jaws announced the arrival of a muzzle and sharp fangs. The whole process was accompanied by the sensation of an aching pleasure so intense it doubled him over and gave him an erection as his pelvis pushed out the bones for a tail, and the body finished its adjustments. He moaned and growled as his head finished lengthening with a lingering burning sensation and he was left momentarily exhausted, panting and lying on the cool earth. The shift was so much like sex that he had always enjoyed shifting while engaged in the act. However he had only had success doing this with women who were also werewolves. The humans had ended up in mental institutions or worse; couldn’t blame a guy for trying.

I love my werewolves, but I love shapeshifters a lot more =^_^= Like hoofandsnort said, there are too many forms, so why stick to one? And that's odd you've never heard them being allergic to silver. It's in Underworld and a ton of books, at least that I've read.

Well silver is their death I have heard of many of times, but i did not understand how a bullet, wich would have to be emmbeded into the werewolf to cause any reaction, would kill them that quick. And even then it was as if just one shot would magicaly kill them. Taking it to an allergy, it would take little time to kill them, but time none the less. Not some crazy insta-death silver bullet.
