I'm writing a story that involves a boy who is basically a human phoenix. Can you guys help me out with some phoenix myths and stuff. I'm doing some research myself but I really suck at it. Anything you know is helpful. Please and thank you!

There's a girl named Ember-babe who is essentially a human phoenix (otherkin, baby). Perhaps you could try asking her about them biggrin
She can usually be found in the Otherkin thread in the Supernatural forum.

some say that when they are close to dying, they combust, and are reborn in their ashes.
It sings a beautiful song, and sends human prayers to heaven on it's wings...
Greek Myth: The pheonix was bathing in a pool of water, and started singing. The song was so beautiful that the sun itself stopped at the well every day before it's journey around the earth.
It's feathers are gold, and it's tail is a mix of gold and either blue, purple, red, or green
Its usually reborn as a young pheonix, or an egg, and has a lifespan of 500-1000 years.

What kind of book are you writing? Example, if you wanted it funny, he could combust at the most inconvenient of times...

Or he could live forever by growing old, and being reborn as a baby...

Thanks to both of you!

Oh man, I'm much better at answering specific questions. I'm also bad at describing things in a way that makes sense to other people. I also feel like I'm boring people >.<

Well it is quite complicated but I'll try to be brief so you don't have to pick through a word wall.

(It is obviously a fantasy book.)

The boy's name is Ryndon.
There have been 2 before him. (I call them fire mages.)
They do have a prolonged life span, I haven't decided how long. They can't really be killed because of their magic, they'll burst into flames and heal. In order to kill them you have to completely destroy their body, especially the heart and brain. You can also use magic but that is WAY complicated, and requires them to be restrained which is damn near impossible without their cooperation.

I think it would be kind of cool if his powers weren't active until he was killed. Then he would be 'reborn' as a fire mage. Also, it could cause some...unfortunate incidents with people trying to awaken fire mage powers with strange rituals that involve killing the supposed fire mage.

I've actually got Ryndon being reborn posted in my guild. It is a first draft and it isn't my best.
I was part of a challenge, just click the link.
Through The Fire.

You'll have to scroll down quite a ways.

Or push crtl F on your keyboard and copy paste

THROUGH THE FIRE: **needs to be touched up a bit but here ya' go**

into the bar that pops up.

In the book of Enoch, Phoenixes are an order of angels that are found near the sun, along with Chalkydris (which are sun serpents).

Some traditions hold that the Phoenix is a 12 winged bird that circles the sun as its description. It is said that they are the "angels" responsible for protecting mankind from a fiery death, and if they withdrew their stewardship of the sun, then the Solar system would be consumed by fire.

The Phoenix and Chalkydri of Enochian lore can be loosely associated with the Dragon and Fenghuang of Chinese lore.

There is the common story of the bird who flies into the sun at the end of its life, and an egg forms of the ashes, from which a new bird forms. Or else it is said they build a pyre from the branches of spice trees and ignites itself, and a new bird is born from the last breath, or the ashes of the old bird.

There is the Native American counterpart, the Thunderbird, who breaths lightning and makes thunder with its wing beats. There are several traditions and stories of the thunderbird, as there is a counterpart through almost every tribe in North and South America. One thing I find interesting is that Ozone is created by lightning, and it is what protects us from the sun.

I am also told that the Aborigines have a version of the Phoenix myth, but I do not know enough about it to quote it.
