Name: Sharkal
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Craft: None
Rank: Weyrbrat
History: Sharkal, like many before him, and many after, was born to a pair of workers. It was not glamorous, nor cause for any circumstance. He was his mother’s first child, and his father’s second. In fact, his parents weren’t even a couple, nor did they intend to be, and quickly went their separate ways. Sharkal, while he has met both parents on random occasion, was raised like all the other weyrbrats.
It wasn’t abnormal, it was the way of the Weyr. And what did happen to the boy? He was picked on. Where some was easy to get along with and quick to make allies, Sharkal was staunch in his opinions and, well, he was small. It made him an easy target. And what happened when Sharkal was picked on? Why, surprise of surprises, he fought back! Unruly and disgruntled, the boy fought and fought, picking fights with anyone if he felt like it would up his status in the ‘pack’, so to speak.
It didn't take long, however, for Sharkal to realize open fistfights were only good for two things. Getting a bloody nose, and getting more work than he knew what to do with. By the time he was eleven, he’d been forced to come to terms he was small and not likely to win any of his confrontations physically. Since then, he’s kept his nose a little cleaner and tries to find larger boys to stick with. He’s picky about who he sticks with, and it’s been a few years since he’s had someone to back, preferring to be the ‘what he said!’ guy to the man calling all the shots. (Back ups tend to get punched less.)
He has Stood since he was twelve, and obviously has nothing to show for it. His flit was an accident, really. His friend had gotten it for a girl, but when she refused to accept the token of his affection, Sharkal became the egg’s caretaker instead. When the fire lizard hatched, he fed it and, lo and behold, she became his.
Appearance: Taking after his father, Sharkal has bright blond hair, short and unruly. The length is actually quite uneven, but if he runs his hair enough through it, no one will see the botch haircut he gave himself. He is small, more closely resembling the average teenage girl’s height than a teenage boy’s, and he is built accordingly. Lacking a lot of serious muscle and weight, he relies on speed and agility. His expression is never pleasant, in fact, it would be odd to see him with anything but a scowl and his arms folded across his chest.
Personality: It is quite possibly that Sharkal has honestly forgotten what the meaning of ‘no’ is. And while it might make him persistent and help him reach what little he aspires to, it also makes him incredibly irritating and borderline obsessive. Well, scratch that. He gets very obsessive. Revenge is never far from his mind; his pride is enormous and though he’s establish some sort of dominance, it’s always in the flux and he can never be sure where he’s standing on any particular day. He’s aggressive, but he’s not confident, harboring a deep-seeded fear that the tables may be turned on him and he will be pushed back to the bottom. He is often guilty of ‘beating a dead runner beast’, unable to determine when enough is enough, and his point has been proven.
Socially, he’s a bit awkward. He was born stubborn and perhaps a bit belligerent, but he learned to fight. He also learned fighting wasn’t the best answer, but Sharkal still struggles to find a better response. Defensive, he’s a protector. He operates much better when he has an ally or an ideal to defend; fighting without a cause requires much more anger. He isn’t the best at approaching people and isn’t quite sure how to ask for what he wants, instead taking it or just doing without. He’s also horrible at sharing people, and while society dictates he must, he’s a very jealous friend. (One can only imagine him in a romantic situation.)
Sharkal has a hard time grasping the bigger picture. His blinkers are usually on, limiting him to the here and now. It enables his obsessions, allowing him to focus on one or two particular things (or people) and forget everything entirely. It also allows him to be a very tedious worker with good ethic; he does everything in stages and does them well, because should one step fail him, his entire project might fail.
Uncertain and uncomfortable without a central figure in his life, Sharkal can get clingy and needy with no way to express his wants and needs. He’s never had a romantic encounter, with no idea how to go about such a thing, and only one or two close friends in his entire lifetime, both since moved on, both to crafts that led them away from Telgar Weyr. Sharkal still harbors hope he will Impress, wishing to stay at Telgar, but time is running out and he is growing filled with doubt.
Other: He has a gold flit, Shimmer, hatched from the egg he‘d been given. (Loki gave the flit to me.)
