It was a beautiful afternoon in the wilderness away from any human contact. It was here at the mountainside where a female dragon rested high above the ground in a cave inside the mountain’s cliff. She fanned out her talons and stretched out her neck so that her face met the warming rays of the sunlight. A low rumble echoed out deep within her vocals as she yawned—giving the earth a greeting as she had awakened from her slumber. Usually Bijou wouldn’t sleep in so late, but last night had left her weak because she had a hard time finding food. Her prey had moved to different territories or humans had invaded her homelands. She spat in disgust as the humans were moving more into her territory and driving her out. She had given them warnings but they didn’t listen and were only driven by greed.

Bijou tucked her wings back in. The sunlight warmed her body and brought a faint happiness with it. Her emerald eyes peered down at the forest that grew below the mountains and covered most of the land. There was a lake towards the east and a couple rivers and streams that poured out into the ocean. She noticed a herd of deer grazing in the meadows of the western view where the path to mankind was. She grunted and snorted fairly loudly. She noticed that the animals stayed close to where the humans came in. Were they that afraid of her that they would give their lives to the humans? Disgusting!

Bijou opened her wings again and stepped out to the perch. Enough daydreaming. She walked closer to the edge with her wings released out and allowing the breeze to brush against them. It felt good—always felt well. Her tail behind her flickered with anticipation and finally the female took to the skies. Her body lifted from the ledge, wings beating with the wind as she flew above the forest. Everything seemed so little below her as she glided and enjoyed the moment.
