It had been nearly a week since Deneb had come to live with the big Angeni stallion and his herd. While everyone had been kind to her, she still had those times where she needed her space to think and be alone.
Tonight she'd stepped away from the male dominated group and stood staring up at the stars, a past time she'd always enjoyed with her mother. She let her eyes drift across the heavens before she found the one star she could always find no matter the time of year, or weather conditions. "Hello bright one~" she said quietly.

Requiem himself was just starting to wake up. He had slept in for the evening and yawned widely as his eyes opened, half lidded. The week had been actually quite nice. He didnt feel any callings, and he got to actually do more than wander aimlessly around and lost in his thoughts.
As his vision cleared from the blurry sleep he blinked a bit more and looked around, taking count of who was around and who wasnt. Since most of the herd seemed to be awake during the nights as well, or at least since the late afternoon, they were all there and pretty active. The two new fillies had grown to adults now and were causing problems of their own along with starting their own lives. The only one he didnt see was Deneb and tho he wasnt too worried he slowly shifted to get up. His massive wings spread, cracking and popping a bit before he shook his mane free from his eyes and gave another yawn. He nodded to a couple of the others in the herd before humming to himself, he would wander around the camp a bit to see if she was nearby.

Deneb shook her head getting her mane out of her eyes. She noticed movement out of the corner of her eye and turned to watch Requiem make his way through the camp.
She wondered idly if he'd be able to see her in the darkness. Except for the light against her scales and her mane and tail she blended into the darkness quite well.
She smiled to herself and waited, feeling playful for once.

Maybe it was because he was old, or maybe it was because he had just woken up, but he did not see her at all actually. He made a face as he snorted, squinting a bit to see if maybe he missed her somehow. Maybe she decided to go off on her own for a bit, the company of the herd no longer needed.
He was still rather curious tho and made his wanderings a little wider out into the forest, almost running straight into a tree, it normally took him a bit to adjust to the darkness tho he lived in it quite often. The tree just barely bumped into his muzzle and he shook his head a bit, 'ugh... I swear sometimes...', he muttered to himself. His low voice almost too hard to hear if one wasnt listening.

Deneb stood stock still ears poised to hear the slightest down of the big angeni. She watched him make circles around her before hearing him as he nearly hit the tree.
She laughed and then stepped over to him. "I'm right here." she said. "That's if you were looking for me. I just stepped out to look at the stars. I hope I didn't worry you." she said smiling. She turned to look back up at the sky before looking back at him. "So, what gets you up at this hour?" she asked.

His eyes shifted over to where he heard her the best, his eyes still taking a moment to focus he made a face at her question, as if he didnt get it. 'Because I woke up? I slept enough?' he responded before shaking his head again. 'Ah... just curious as to where you were. Hoped nothing happened to you is all,' he shrugged before looking up at the stars as well.

Deneb nodded. "Oh, I'm fine. Sometimes I have a hard time sleeping at night, so I find a little star gazing helps relax me, get my head in the right place..." she sighed. "I'd tell you if I was leaving." she said. "You and everyone have been nothing but kind to me. It would be incredibly rude of me to leave without saying anything."
She stepped towards Req and gently pressed the side of her face against his. "Thank you for everything." she then quickly stepped back and looked back up at the sky. "Beautiful night."

He smiled softly at her response and shrugged, as if to say it meant no harm. 'I would never think that you would intentionally leave us,' his voice was warm, and when she stepped close, he only returned the gesture. It was a new feeling, not a romantic one at all, but more of a fatherly type of one. 'Your more than welcome,' he chuckled a bit at how she moved away so quickly and he looked up, nodding.
'It really is,' he responded. 'Oh... we have some newer members to the family if you would like to come meet them,' his voice trailed off a moment. 'Deneb... I would like to thank you as well...'

"I'd love too, when we have time." she said with a smile. She then tilted her head and raised an eyebrow quizzically. "Thank me? For what?" she wondered what should could have possibly done for him that would warrant him thanking her. Nothing came to mind so she waited patiently for his answer.

He was quiet for a long moment. He never really shared his thoughts with anyone, nor his feelings. But he had done such a big thing for him...
'I want to thank you for giving me a freedom,' he fell quiet again. His eyes just moved along the stars. 'Before I met you, I was a slave to death it would seem. I went from person to person, just like your mother, as they died. It was endless, and I... couldnt even tell you for how long Ive done it... I couldnt even tell you my age for that matter. For so long I wandered lost.'
He looked back over his shoulder a bit to where his herd was starting to wake up more and more for the night. 'You gave me the chance to stop. To think, and to start a life and a family of my own. You showed me the value of it... and that I could have it to.'

Deneb was stunned into silence. She didn't think she'd done any such thing, except seem a weak little filly with no sense of direction. She opened her mouth to attempt to say something but then closed it and thought about what he'd said. Had she done that? Well it would seem to him that she had, and that was the important thing.
"You're welcome." she finally said nodding slightly to him. "Glad I helped." she added sounding a little unsure, and prancing a bit feeling nervous.

He blinked a bit feeling her uneasy, and seeing her a bit nervous. That was all it took to make him close himself off mentally, feeling like he must have done the wrong thing to make her so uncomfortable. He only smiled softly like he normally did, and shifted to walk back to the herd. Inside he was beating himself up entirely, it wasnt as if this was even romantic, he was just... thankful... but maybe he was wrong. He kept his outer appearance unchanged so she wouldnt be able to tell, and he cleared his throat.
'Well when you want to meet the others they are in the camp, dont get yourself into too much trouble,' he said in still his unchanged tone before heading back to the herd himself.

Deneb sighed as she watched him go. She wasn't at all happy how this conversation had gone, and it sat wrong with her on all levels. She stamped her foot and looked up at the sky looking for answers. There weren't any up there as to be expected, but one could wish for them to be there.
She stood there for a few more minutes before trotting back over to the group and weaving her way through them.

Although he might be able to show easily on the outside that he wasnt effected, he was having a hard time really feeling that way. Before he even really knew it, he had already passed through the herd, and was on his way out, starting to wander again. His mind was starting to pick back up, his thoughts, his second guessings. It wasnt as if he was a weak stallion, but caring for others let alone saying anything to him was new, and it was still fragile to him. At least the herd was settled now, so his being gone wouldnt be a problem.
