I bawww over the Olympics all the time, but Friday I did go downtown with a friend because I really can't resist the tourist event of all tourist events. @___@
We only managed to hit up two free things - the Northern House (Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut) and the Canada/Manitoba pavillions. Gotta say...the Northern house was by far the best thing ever. All the workers were awesome and helpful (they *actually* introduced us to the stuff there!), and the art was soooo pretty. They even had a long table with crafting ladies doing their thing! :O heart We got free pins there too which was hella awesome. I mean...Not like I'll go to Nunavut in my life (most likely) so it was awesome to get free pins (good quality ones at that!!).
I never realized how many pin collectors there are :O My gosh, so many people were trading s**t! It was really neat. The CTV building was an entire place dedicated to pin trading. Then at certain times of the day, they handed out free pins too, but we decided not to wait in line for 2 hours to get one lol.
The Canada house was kindaaaa...lame. We waited in a huge line to get into the LiveCity downtown (where it was in) then another long line to get into it....then all there was was the Stanley Cup and some interactive trivias. The line for the cup was huge too. Yay for photo ops galore though!
Anyways, do you guys enjoy doing touristy things? Site-seeing? cheesy photo ops? Collecting souveniers? Etc? I love it sooo much. After 3 years of Vancouver I still feel like a tourist. xd Being downtown reminded me so much of the Europe trip I did in highschool - just the huge crowds and random vendors on the street. Though the vendors only sold pins here and were way way less pushy. They just kind sat there, lol. In France I remember getting bombarded by dudes selling cheap quality towers every other stop we did! lol.

Yeah I get a little overdose on the Canada-self-worship too. I think I'd be so sick of it if I were in the lower mainland right now. eek
When I was in europe I collected a patch, pin, and thimble from every country I was in (except Germany, because it didn't really count in my mind)
I'd like to do that for pretty much every country (and province) I visit now. Be cool, and light to carry home

Definitely! And a cheaper souvenier to boot! xd I have most provinces now except for Ontario, Quebec and the east coast (even though I went there, I just never thought to get pins back then >___>). I have Kitimat pins out the wazoo - crime stoppers, school distict, the museum, and of course the standard snowflake. And Vancouver tourist things - science world, the chinese gardens (it's a cute panda pin!), the aquarium, some random totem pole one, SFU and UBC law.
Like every other car has a flag on it, most people have pins of some sort and downtown was like a sea of red, lol. And mascots. They made hats of the mascots that look like the top of their heads so you can wear mukmuk, sumi, miga, and quatchi lol. Most of them are on adults too! lol.

My brother is in Cole Harbour, so when they had the Stanley Cup there they got a picture of it with Crosby driving around with it in a tank:
