It was a bright new day in the forest, and Damien wasted none of it getting up and going to the spring to welcome the morning with a bath in the spring in the meadow where Taigi and Nevara lived. His wings, mane and tail were still dripping wet when he started his first adventure of the day, and his cloven hooves were getting uncomfortable muck stuck in the triangular slots. Maybe he should've waited and dried off... But then Taigi and Nevara would have him eat his breakfast with them and go through a huge process of other stuff. He had no time for that, Damien had to live and learn!
This logic left him now trotting through a tunnel of trees that he sighted just yesterday! But yesterday he was on his way home and couldn't venture through and discover where it led. He'd been anticipating this moment... The dull light at the end was so close yet so far!
When he finally did reach the tunnel's end, he found himself in a shaded region, specks of light filtering through the thick canopy of trees overhead. It was all so cool! And better yet, there was a smallish cliff across the canopied meadow... How interesting! Perhaps there was a cavern somewhere... And a cavern would mean something even cooler hiding inside! Without hesitation, the colt began his walk to the cliff's side nearest him..

Morana's pupil-less eyes were formed into pure white slits. Her lip curled up into a snarl, revealing her razor sharp fangs. There was a meal right in front of her, enjoying the grass. Her tail lashed as she watched the lost deer for a moment. In one swift move, she launched her small white and crimson body at the deer and quickly latched onto the doe's neck. This was her meal for the day and would hopefully hold her over until the next day. The limp carcass now lay in front of the mare, stiff and bloody.
Morana looked down at the doe, her eyes filled with delight. "Oh what a pretty little deer! It has markings like me." She was refering to the blood covering the neck of the doe. Her tail flicked behind her and she smiled softly. "I wonder how many others out there have the same markings as us, little deer."
She quickly looked around, making sure no one else was here as she enjoyed her meal, yet hated herself for enjoying the death of another creature. How could she kill something so beautiful? How could she take away the doe's life? The doe may have had fawns. Morana shook her head. It was too late now, she might as well enjoy what she had done. With that, she ripped at the carcass, enjoying the blood between her teeth and the flesh she chewed on. Now that blood was spilled, she was on high alert. Other predators would be attracted to the heavenly scent that filled the air.

What was that?! Damien hopped one-eighty degrees to face back where he came from. He'd definitely heard something... Some noise of things breaking... Kinda like twigs but somehow more dense... Tearing... Ears perked as well as his curiosity, Dai followed the noises to where he thought the source was.
Then there was scent. The quarter of him that was Kalona picked up the scent of blood oh so easily, and made his skin tingle with an unusual feeling. It wasn't hunger, but there was definitely excitement. And it was this excitement that got his hooves treading the ground faster, towards wherever there was a fresh kill. No, he wasn't hungered by it, eating another living thing rather repulsed him, but he was fascinated to the extreme. Fascinated to the point where he believed he could take on whatever evil creature committed the kill.
A short canter away and he spotted the mare over the carcass. The scene should've been grotesque, but in Damien's eyes it was the coolest thing he'd seen in his life! Not that there was much 'life' to go off of at the moment, but he'd remember this scene for the rest of his life for sure!
Although his instincts drew him to approach, his mind kicked back in and told him to stay back until this creature - for he had no word for her yet - finished her feed.

Morana's nostrils flared out as she locked her teeth onto another portion of the carcass. When she caught the scent of the colt, her head quickly lifted and turned in his direction, the carcass being ripped as she did so. The small mare took a few bites then swallowed her meal, finished with that and more interested on what was on the other side of the bush.
Her lips curled up over her now blood stained fangs in a snarl and her tail lashed back and forth. When she noticed the little colt's head, she smiled, a motherly smile. "Hello there little one." Her voice was soft and angelic... for the moment anyways. This colt would have no idea what to think of the mare probably at the end of their meeting. He would most likely think that she was insane like all the other soquili thought of her. Her hoof dug at the ground for a moment and her head lifted slightly at the scent of blood that drifted their way. "Do you want some food?"
Her eyes formed into white slits and she smirked a devilish smirk as she lowered her head slightly, now she was eye to eye with the colt. "Would you like to play a game?" Her head lifted and a large grin formed on her face. Now, she looked a lot like an overgrown foal, innocent and playful.

'Woah...!' Damien watched the mare shift moods, finally coming to rest with a reared head and a mischievous grin he never saw on adults. He tilted his head, narrowing his eyes as if it'd help him see what she was all about, but he couldn't. The head tilting did do well to give him a better view of her wings, and he recalled what his forced-friend Syrea'd said the other day when they met a new foal, "...His are different though, they aren't like mine or Damien's... they're bigger." She was talking about a relative of hers, the name of whom Dai didn't care much to remember. It was irrelevant, anyhow! But Damien was sure Syrea's whoever-he-was had those wings.
The mare did offer him a game... Damien wasn't one for games, but perhaps she could teach him how to fly. After all, they could make a game of it! Yes, what a wondrous plot! And then, he could keep up the pretense of the Sky Kingdom a while longer, actually taking flight! Funny how the mare's blood-spattered appearance didn't irk him a bit as he went ahead, "why, I would, lady! But see... The game I know is a sky game... And I don't know how to fly yet..." His green eyes twinkled, daring Morana to be the one to propose teaching him, rather than asking it outright.

Morana lowered her head again, her eyes now formed into pure white slits. Her untainted ears perked towards the colt. "Now, now, little one, do you think I'm a fool? If you want to learn how to fly, simply ask." She opened her mouth a tad then snapped her fangs together, making her teeth form a clicking noise. Her head lifted and she eyed the colt quickly, taking in the fact that he was much like her, a mix of a kalona and what they viewed as lessers. His wings were far different than hers, but she figured it would all be the same.
She now smiled, a gleam appearing in her pupil-less eyes. Oh she would love to teach this little colt. How adorable he was! "I'm sure I can teach you how to fly and we can play your little game!" Her eyes looked up towards the trees. "We should find some place that has a hill and where you won't run into the trees." Her spaded tail flicked behind her back and forth like a puppy's tail would when the puppy wanted to play with its owner. Her tattered wings unfolded from her sides, it was far more difficult for her to fly now, but she could still do it.

At first, when Morana asked if he thought her a fool, he was certain he'd come out of this meeting with a few scars at best, but anger seemed to come and go in her as a rolling wave. It didn't bother Damien at all, mostly because the foal had no idea of what bipolar meant or how those who were bipolar acted.
She smiled, and he smiled back, first unsurely. And then she even agreed to teach him! Dai grinned and let out a humiliating whinny, which he wished he could've swallowed before it reached the mare's ears. She seemed so... Intelligent and grand, not one to put up with a youngling's antics. But his wings almost physically ached for flight, and he felt compelled to stretch them out, so he did, quickly retracting them afterwards. He watched the Uni-Kalona's wings stretch, and her own were the blood-spattered colors of her entire body, but tattered at the edges. Dai wanted to know how this happened, but such questions, especially to a Kalona, required trust and somewhat along the lines of a friendship.
"Well, I'm sure this cliff just near here is good! It probably has a grassier side that opens up to at least a clearing!" His words were excited but considerably spaced. Damien had to keep his mind straight, towards success! And more than anything, he'd need this mare's guidance, so he didn't want to look like a babbling, foolish foal.

Morana cackled at the young colt's attempt at a whinny. She opened her mouth to start insulting him, but quickly snapped it shut, her teeth making a clicking noise. No, she wouldn't allow herself to be exactly like her brute of a father. Her tail lashed and she snarled at thought of the big kalona stallion.
Her eyes quickly darted to the colt and she lowered her head and nudged the colt gently. "Come now, lead the way little one." She enjoyed the warmth that he gave off. It wasn't often that she got close enough to another soquili to touch them and not draw a little blood. She smiled softly at the colt, waiting for him to lead her in the direction of the clearing he was speaking of.
When she noticed his gaze move to her wings, she folded them to her sides and snarled at the colt. "Hurry, I don't have all day to spend with you. I have hunting to get done." Had she already forgotten about her previous meal? The dull gaze of the doe? It haunted a part of her, but another part simply thought it looked delicious. A nice little snack before a big meal. Her head lifted and her ears twisted and turned at each sound that forest made. No one was close, good. This colt and she were safe from any possible harm... for now at least.

Damien nodded quickly yet solemnly, as if to amend his earlier mistake of whinnying. Man, this mare was crazy. Dai was used to meeting nice, excited Soquili, and they tended to annoy him, but this bloody mare didn't give him room for annoyance. She was a mare to be respected, and so Damien did. And he respected her even more after noticing this fact. He wanted to be like her someday; Important and respected, superior to foolish children, scaring them straight.
He was fast to nod once more when she told him to hurry, eyes growing a little wide at the word 'hunting'. With a quick glance at the doe carcass, he spun about and started leading toward the cliff, "I think we should climb first, then see what the best landing spot would be and go that way." He tried his best to keep his voice sounding impressive and professional, most of all serious. Another turn and they were in the clearing in which Damien first arrived in this branch of the forest, tree-tunnel wide and promising, leading to happier lands. But no, Damien had to learn how to fly and impress his sibling and those silly fillies who called him a friend of theirs.

Crazy didn't even begin to cover Morana's personality. She noted the way the colt did exactly as she told him and could help but smirk slightly. Oh this colt would learn one day that not all kalona were as nice as her. He would have been a nice meal if her father was around. The small unikalona followed the colt in the direction of the cliff. "Yes~ Climb the cliff the find the best landing spot... A high cliff would be preferable... more air to use to your advantage." Oh if he fell to the ground that would be the end of this little colt. A nice and easy meal for her.
She shook her head and smiled warmly at the colt. "Now, be careful not to fall to your death, colt." Oh why did her unicorn blood always have to ruin things for her! Just one little colt wouldn't be missed... His parents obviously didn't care, considering he was all alone. She licked her fangs then nudged the colt. "Now, get to flying, or must I teach you how to use your wings?" The mare said as she nipped at the colt's hocks. Her spaded tail lashed back and forth as she watched carefully. Part of her hoped he failed, the other part hoped he would do perfectly.
