A Friendly Betrayal

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This is a Private RP between:
Cordelia and Lucia.
(Ebony maybe)

Where: Old, abandoned library in Gambino.

When: Morning.

Weather: Overcast with scattered spots of sun. Signs of spring
are beginning to show with the melting of the snow.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
PostPosted: Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:23 pm

A mischievous sun peeked out from the gloom of puffy gray clouds only to duck behind another closely floating mass. Cordelia wanting to pleasure in the warmth and cheeriness of the nearly non-existent idol (as the past winter had provided graciously), giggled and performed a floating skip as she zoomed about with her head craned upwards. It was fun to see if she could easily guess where and when the sun's rays would strike, yet the same couldn't be said for the many bipeds she'd accidentally bumped into while playing her little game of peek-a-boo.

When the exhilaration of the chase gave way to boredom and weariness, the basilisk finally took a good look to her surroundings. Immediately Delia seemed to sink into herself realizing nothing looked even vaguely familiar. Somehow she'd stumbled into the woods and there didn't seem to be a soul in sight. Cautiously, she drifted deeper into the quiet thicket in hopes of finding the city again. It was hard though, the trees provided a good muffle for sound and it was hard to discern from which direction the far away sounds were loudest.

As the dark Frei slowly made her progress, she noticed how the trees thinned in there numbers. Did this mean she was getting close to exiting? Squinting her smokey eyes, Cordelia could just make out the vague outline of a building. Yes, this had to be the correct way! Hastily her pace quickened until she was mere yards away from the concrete construction. Yet to her dismay, upon arrival she found the building to be nothing more than a relic. Decrepit and falling apart, the place held a strong sense of foreboding.

Cordelia was quite intent on leaving just as fast as she'd happened upon the area, yet the scent of smoke wafted to her as a wind blew light across her face. It was crisp and strong as only a newly created fire could produce. The smoke Raevan couldn't pass up the opportunity to investigate more, and perhaps sneak in a feeding as well.

Following the dark masses that floated up to the sky to meet their lighter counterparts, Delia found the fire easily. But it was more than just any fire, it was HUGE! Someone had deliberately piled a large amount of old books and now they crackled loudly as the fire turned their pages to ash, no one ever to view their parting words ever again. Who would do this and why? It didn't really make sense to her, Ebby always harped about how precious books were and even though Delia couldn't read them herself yet, she'd always assumed that this is how everyone felt. Obviously someone did not agree with this mentality.

Though this soon left the snake's mind as the delicious smell of food teased her and the fire swathed her in its warmth. It wasn't as cold as it had been, but the serpent still appreciated a good heat source no matter how it came about. And she could spare a minute or two to indulge just a bit before finding her way back right?

Lucia had come from the latest kill, but this time there was no blood. It was a shame having to leave the job unfinished, but those were the breaks when you were playing as the sun came up. Strangling the man had been fun – exhilarating even – but it couldn’t measure up to the last playtime with the clean stab in the one man. And the woman: each stab was measured, deliberate, and beautiful. This time Brian had relished it as the larger man struggled against Lucia’s petite frame as Lucia’s hands pulled the chain link tighter and tighter against his windpipe. The struggles for breath and the soft gurgling sound he made as the light faded from his eyes made her break out in giggles. Even thinking about it now made her giggle.

Where the hell was he? Brian thought as he looked around. As someone left the club close to where he had strangled that guy on the outskirts of the city, he had slipped away into these nearby woods. He’d have to curve around and get back to the city soon, but two boys with scared looks on their faces running his way piqued his interest. What had they been doing that made them run so fast? Lucia’s purple orbs watched as they ran as fast as they could in one direction, and then she began floating swiftly in the other. The trees were thinning as the distinct smell of smoke wafted his way. Suddenly there was a large clearing in the trees. An old-looking building was surrounded in flames. The large curved sign read Old Gambino Library, but it was already turning black as the fire licked at the wood.

And someone was here, he realized, slipping back into the trees. As he floated around, from tree to tree, Brian smiled when he saw it. Another frei. This one was darker than the others and almost looked dangerous. Her wings looked like those Asian weapon things. Her hair was dark and her shirt was a sleek snakeskin. Maybe she’d be a challenge, he thought with a grin.

Delia! Oh s**t. Oh s**t. Please….please can we just go! PLEASE! Between Prajna, LuLu, Yuurei, and the half dozen strangers she --no -- he had attacked or killed, Lucia knew begging wouldn't save anyone. But it was instinctual. Please can we just - just go?! She had just killed a man - she didn't want to hurt her friend too. If the frei was pleading, maybe she wouldn’t be a problem after all. But he may as well test the waters.

”Delia!” he cried out, hoping to surprise the snake. ”What the hell did you do?!”

Yelling her name wouldn't garner much of an immediate reaction from the Frei as she was quite use to hearing it being belt out at home in a mild British laced soprano whenever she'd done something highly unacceptable by her woman's standards. Like the time she'd actually gotten into the fireplace when the fire was out just to see where most of the heat and smoke went. Ebby's eyes had nearly dropped out of their sockets when she'd seen all her meticulously well kept white floors and walls smudged with dingy, dark soot. Now had Lucia actually sneaked up on Cordelia or flung herself at the girl without any warnings at all, that could have been a serious folly.

Basking in the warmth of the flames and deeply breathing in the smoke, Delia hadn't realized how much the fire had grown in the few minutes she'd been floating there. It should have alarmed her, but for some reason it only made her feel more comforted. Slowly she turned dreamily to gaze in the direction of the voice that was calling out to her, her eyes a calm sea of grey. They soon lit up in excitement with recognition of the other Raevan.

"Lucia!" she purred happily as she spun around to properly face the girl. Her smile soon turned sheepish at the idea of her just standing idly by a raging inferno. It must have looked very odd to her friend who seemed to think her the culprit to the crime. Quickly she looked between her and the flames and gasped loudly, waving her hands about furiously. "It's not what you think! I didn't do this! I-I would never destroy books! I just..." Delia's words lingered off into silence as she dipped her head, a little ashamed. She probably should have been trying to put the fire out rather than feeding.

The smile of recognition. The happy cry of his host’s name. This would again be easy. Slipping his hand into Lucia’s purse that now only held one of the kitchen knives, since he had discarded the chain, Brian grasped the cold metal handle. Purple orbs reflected the flames, almost looking like there was a fire behind her own eyes. You won’t have many friends soon, frei… Maybe I should take another look at that address book of yours once I finish here.

Brian floated closer to Delia and the fire. If nothing else, this frei seemed sadistic, coming across a building on fire and just watching it burn. More dangerous with those wings or not, Brian knew the girl really had no possible way of attacking him, especially once his attack was done randomly. A smile spread across his face as he pulled the sharp knife out of Lucia’s purse and dropped the cloth bag into the fire. The grey metal reflected the orange and yellow flames as he angled it left and right.

Lucia tried not to watch, tried not to think. She understood that the boys with grins on their faces running away had started the fire here. She knew the cold metal handle in her hand was the cooking knife she had used at home to chop vegetables. She knew she was going to attack her friend. And she knew there was nothing she could do about it. So she faded into the background.

”I know you didn’t do it. I saw two little shits running the other way, towards the city. But I was thinking, Delia, does Ebony know you’re out here? Aren’t you pretty far from home?”

There was an excitement in Lucia’s purple eyes as her smile got wider and she giggled softly, running her finger slowly along the edge of the blade, seeing a thin red line as she cut herself, just slightly. The sight of blood sent her into a fit of laughter that sounded like sobs – not Lucia’s soft giggle.

She should have felt relief at her friend's words, that she knew she wasn't the one who caused the fire in the first place, but Lucia's voice rang oddly in the smokey girl's ears. It wasn't the usual easy flowing speech she'd come to know the kitten by, but something more forced and sounding strangely like she was trying to keep from crying. And the way she approached her; slow, cautious, deliberate, Cordelia got the odd sensation that she was being stalked. But that was ridiculous! She wasn't prey and Lucia was her friend. Friends didn't hunt one another.

Shaking the feeling off as nothing, Delia drew forward to meet the cat half way. Maybe something was wrong and the other needed comforting? But the snake didn't get far before a shiny glinting caught her eye. What was that Lucia had? Curiously, she tilted her head about until the fires reflection could be seen past and Delia finally saw what it was. A knife, a tool used for slicing and cutting things. Why would the girl be carrying something like that around?

Cordelia didn't get the chance to ask nor answer Lucia's question once the blade sliced the other Raevan's hand. On sight of the blood she immediately gasped and rushed forward. "Lucia! You've cut yourself! Why are you playing with such a dangerous thing?" The look in her eyes was incredibly heart wrenching, sorrow filled for her friend's injury even though it was only a minor scrap. Yet to a child, even the smallest of bruises could seem dire.

Lucia was giggling madly at Delia’s concern, at the sight of the blood, at the smooth way the sharp knife penetrated flesh so easily. Her ears were forward, aggressive, and her eyes were sharp as she giggled crazily they never left the darker frei. Her laughter came out like sobs and if there wasn’t a broad smile on her face, someone could interpret her as crying. But there was no mistaking this. With Lucia’s face in front of someone, the sadistic and masochistic nature of her was plain to see. She brought her hand up to her mouth and her pink tongue flicked out to lick the blood smoothly off of her thumb. The thin cut would heal quickly, in fact if someone looked closely other thin slices could be seen along her fingers. But the frei felt the blood begin to flow in her mind. She felt her blood course through her veins as Brian’s excitement and anger grew. Lucia willed herself to fall asleep. To not think. To get away. To just die. But like at a tragic car accident, she couldn’t look away. She couldn’t help but witness what she would do to her friend.

Brian was pissed. The b***h didn’t answer him he realized. His giggling stopped suddenly and he ignored Delia’s heart-felt question and began playing with the knife further, spinning it in her fingers like it was a baton or drumstick. Lucia’s voice came out hard, staccato, and abrupt, ”You didn’t answer me.” Purple orbs, usually so friendly, stared at the basilisk frei with aggression and hatred. Lucia’s cut hand reached up and grabbed Delia’s collar, forcibly pulling her close enough that their faces were mere inches apart. <******** ANSWER ME!” he screamed harshly in the snake’s face, saliva flinging out of the kitten’s mouth with the force of her yell. Brain screamed at the smoky frei in a harsher tone than Lucia had ever used. He stopped spinning the knife and grasped the handle aggressively. Dangerously. The arm with the knife lay partly tensed by Lucia’s side, the blade pointed towards Delia. The other’s knuckles were turning white from the strength with which she gripped her friend’s collar. Lucia’s eyes were locked to Delia’s, the fire behind them was raging. He wanted to see her fear. When he spoke it was deliberate. Slowly. Measured. ”Does – she – know – you – are – here?”

Her face paled at the sight of Lucia licking the blood off her fingers as if it were as normal as lapping up milk. Blood didn't usually make the snake Raevan squeamish and even though she had her own unusual feeding source, just the thought of anyone finding the crimson liquid tasty was just wrong somehow. A cold traveled down her half-formed spine that wasn't the normal cold she was use to, but a shiver of disgust at the disturbing sight.

"Huh?" In her disturbance, Delia had totally missed the first strand of angry murmurings. Though the second, harsher yell was, of course, absolutely hard to miss. The basilisk cringed back as Lucia's fingers gripped her collar and pulled her close. Delia had been right, something was absolutely, utterly wrong. But it was with the cat Frei herself. This wasn't her friend Lucia. Lucia was kind and playful, never harsh and demanding like this fake in front of her now.

Baring her fangs, Cordelia issued a loud hiss, her dangerous dagger-like wings spreading wide open like the hood of a cobra ready to strike. Fear wasn't an emotion the snake was prone to feeling. No, when a predator was face to face with another predator, the instinct to fight and defend was most present.

Trying to remember her strength and not to hurt the feline (after all perhaps this was the virus rearing its ugly head once more), Delia grabbed and yanked at Lucia's vise grip hold from her scaled jacket. "No she does not." She spat and hissed back. "And I do not appreciate how you are treating me Lucia. I am your friend, but I will not be bullied. Please unhand me."

With the response being given, Lucia’s grip on the jacket immediately released, allowing Delia to yank her arm away, and she broke into sob-like giggles again. Anticipation was almost palpable in her eyes, but her demeanor changed completely. She was relaxed, loose, and playful for not the sharp knife she began twirling in her fingers again. Her strength while controlled by Brian had not yet been tested, and her body showed an almost eagerness. Inside, Lucia almost wanted to celebrate her friend’s improved communication, but as soon as the thought came into her mind, another one replaced it seeing the Snake’s defensive posture and sharp words. Maybe Delia would kill her, the frei thought. Maybe that way she wouldn’t hurt anyone else. Lucia didn’t want to think about what would happen if Brian was able to overpower her friend. But then again, it was nothing more than she expected to do. She could only sit by idly and watch as he tore down one person after another that was close to her. Yuurei. LuLu. Delia.

Good idea, Brian thought. What a perfect way to torture the frei: make her the murderer of her most beloved. First, the snake. For all of her hiss, there was certainly no bite. Was this supposed to make him afraid? Well ******** that. She was a little girl, just like this little girl he was in. Only he had the strength of a muscular man, not of a wimpy little floating torso. And he had the experience of a killer.

”So why are you all the way out here, girly?” Brian asked plainly as he floated Lucia’s body closer to the fire, watching the pages of paper curl blacken and turn to ash. His eyes were off of the smoky raevan, but he knew constantly what she was doing by feel and hear and instinct. Brian held Lucia’s hand by the fire, getting just a hair too close as the fire reached up trying to lick her hand. Pulling away just in time, the sobbing laughter began again and the purple eyes flicked towards Delia’s direction as he regripped the knife’s metal handle and tensed Lucia’s body.

The fire was huge now as the girls had been standing there. It was enveloping the entire building and the walls seemed to be straining to remain stable. The building would fall eventually.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 27, 2010 10:31 pm

Delia frowned suspiciously as the other seemed to calm down some and move away. With a quick flick and tug, she resettled her collar and smoothed it back into its proper place. Though Lucia looked to be less crazed, she still didn't trust the way the other was sounding. The way she spoke was so patronizing, like the other was sneering down upon her. Like Cordelia was lower than her. This thought made the basilisk's scaled brows furrow deeper. Oh how she wanted to scoff at the idea.

"I was..." She couldn't help blushing, suddenly a bit embarrassed to admit such a thing. "...was playing a game with the sun and got lost. The smoke drew me here." Quickly she regrouped and left her embarrassment behind, more content on knowing why Lucia was acting so odd now. "What about you? What are you doing out here?"

Her eyes shifted slight as a piece of formerly standing wall crumbled at her right side, but the girl didn't flinch. It was as if the destructive power of fire was lost on her or perhaps it bored her, like she'd seen it a thousand times before. Delia should be quite frightened being in the midst of such chaos (with a potentially unstable Frei to boot), but the flames dancing around her only made her feel at ease and at the same time, made her feel bolder, stronger.

The kitten’s heart went out to her friend’s child-like answer. Her heart was breaking as she felt Brian prime her body to attack. She had felt it six times before. And each time her muscles primed like this she attacked. Prajna. Yuurei. The man – she never got his name. Alice. LuLu. Randy from earlier that night. And now Delia.

”I came out here for you, babe,” he said, flicking Lucia’s tongue out to lick her pouty lips. ”You asked me why I was playing with such a dangerous thing earlier…right?” he paused looking at Delia, his plaything for now, and held up the knife so she could see it. ”It’s not dangerous. It’s a toy. You just need to know how to handle it. See a few days ago I handled a different toy really well. Her boyfriend would have struggled. And the blade I used that night went through his skin so smoothly. It was like cutting butter with a hot knife. A quick stab and a slice.” He paused to remember it as he moved Lucia around farther away from the flames. Floating closer to the smoky frei, virtually trapping her between two flaming walls he continued. ”Now that toy, she wasn’t dangerous at all. She was high and drunk. And I took my time. The same knife that slid so smoothly across her boyfriend’s throat sunk and slashed across her so beautifully. And as the drops of blood began to show – wow you should have heard that toy scream.”

Lucia’s purple eyes locked onto Delia’s dark ones. ”But this toy,” he said staring plainly at the Basilisk, ”this toy isn’t dangerous. This toy couldn’t dream about the things I’ve done. Nor manage a mere scratch -- on this toy.” The last “toy” obviously referred to Lucia, as she heard him talk, but there was no way for Delia to understand this. Lucia floated closer to Delia, the knife held up dangerously, and pushed her further towards the flaming walls.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 27, 2010 11:21 pm

Again her frown deepened as she felt herself being corralled between Lucia and the fiery, collapsing structures. They wouldn't hold much longer and when they gave out, Cordelia would be crushed beneath them. Yet what her furry eared friend said made no sense. Ebby had said that knives were dangerous and most definitely not toys to be played with. And then when she thought it had been the kitchen utensil the other spoke of, the term 'toy' seemed to take on a whole other meaning. Though Delia understood and spoke English well enough now, somethings were still beyond her and felt to be lost in translation.

Still very weary of Lucia, Cordelia floated back a ways, the flames warm on her backside. The heat licked at her smokey ribbon, sending it into a swirling random dance. "I don't understand. What do you mean Lucia? Why are you acting so strange?" The youth did not understand fully the meaning of death, of killing, of stealing the life of another. All she knew of it was win or lose when it came to battle. She didn't know that right now she could lose for good, forever.

Lucia’s face was twisted into that same mad unnatural smile. She began giggling uncontrollably, but her eyes never left the snake. Her black hair danced as a soft wind came by, bringing more oxygen to fuel the fire.

Enough games, Brian thought, getting annoyed again. This time, though the giggling didn’t stop. The sobbing sounds emanating from the back of the kitten’s throat just got louder as Brian again adjusted his grip of the knife. ”You don’t understand what I mean, toy?” he asked patronizingly.

The frei didn’t know what to do. She tried. She tried to push Brian out of her body. She tried to reason with him. But she was left helpless in the back of her mind, uncomfortable and squashed. And then the taunting began. She was going to kill her friend. She was a murderer. She wanted this. She liked this. She was going to murderer Delia. And there was nothing she could do about it. Resigned, she stopped fighting. There was no way she could win anyway. She in fact was a murderer. She had killed. And she would kill again. The kitten despaired, but became an observer in her body, watching what she did to her friend.

Then without any other warning Lucia closed the distance between her and her smoky friend. Her slender hand wrapped around Delia’s neck, pushing on her wind pipe and cutting off any oxygen from getting to the frei’s lungs. The phalange of her hand had pressure right on the middle of the Basilisk’s delicate neck. And her fingers and thumb were used for grip and control. She held Delia a breath’s distance from the fire with a strength that wasn’t the kitten’s own, and placed the edge of the knife delicately against the Snake’s soft flesh, right above her hand. It was nice to have more slender hands so that when grabbing a neck, like this, it was still easy to position a knife just right on her neck: right around where he could see the frei’s pulse.

”This is what I mean, toy. Your flesh is like butter to this knife. All it needs is a single flick of Lucia’s wrist.” You wanna do it, frei? And all the while there was that sobbing giggle.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 28, 2010 8:45 pm

Her heart tore in two then when a shrill crying came from the other girl. Though she was more positive than ever that she needed to keep her guard up and prepare for an attack from the kitten...Cordelia also knew that Lucia was her friend and was obviously suffering. From what, she didn't know or could ever hope to understand, but Delia didn't like her friends hurting. If she could help, she would, but Lucia seemed far from negotiating with right at the moment.

With pain in her voice, the basilisk let her guard down for just a moment, sadness overwhelming her. "Lucia..." She said somberly, the flames blazing wildly all around them. Cordelia wasn't sure what to do, yet before she could even begin to brainstorm, Lucia was on her, taking advantage of the momentary lapse in the youth's stance.

A series of hisses left her dark lips as her black wings splayed full across her back once more. Cordelia scrambled to rip her strangling hands from her neck, leaving angry ruby lines in Lucia's pale skin. She stopped almost immediately when the cool metal of the knife kissed upon the warmth of her own. Yes, she completely understood now what the other Raevan had meant.

Cringing in pain and gasping for breathe, "L-Lu-cia...please..." How? How could she do this?! Weren't they friends? What was making her do this? Was it the virus again? Cordelia was at a lose of what to do. She knew she had to get away now before the knife cut her or the surrounding structures finally crushed them. But...the snake couldn't find it in herself to bring an ill hand upon her friend. "Lucia..." Her own sobs aligning with the cat's half garbled ones.

Lucia’s heart broke as Delia called her name. Pleaded. She didn’t have Brian’s sadistic nature. She didn’t want to see Delia upset. The frei didn’t even scratch the surface of her hand. She wanted the frei to fight. Lucia didn’t care what happened to her body. She just wanted this to stop. But it wasn’t her hand was squeezing tighter around Delia’s neck. The knife was creating a red line of skin irritation and if anything caused either of them to flinch, that was it for Delia. She willed Brian to go back to his games, just to give her friend a chance.

And he agreed.

”L-L-L-Lucia. Lou-lou-lou-sh-sh-ya,” mimicked Brian as he fell into more sob-like giggles. The frei wanted him to play with her friend, well he would play. ”If you say her name enough, do you think she’ll be able to save you?” He smiled and leaned the Basilisk closer to the flame so each orange tongue was mere inches away, and the heat must have been getting to be a bit too much to handle. ”LUCIA!” he screamed, his voice being drowned out by the crackling of the fire. ”LUCIA SAVE HER!!!” Her purple eyes reflected the yellow, orange, and blue of the flame. ”L-L-L-LUCIA!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!” He screamed in a weak voice, mocking the smoky frei’s pleading.

Then the flames behind Delia rose. And the Snake looked like she was surrounded by fire. That would be a fun game. To make her scream. Make Lucia scream. And then revel in the sound. And then revel in the blood and power and control. ”Have you ever smelled burning flesh? It’s awful. Blood has a metallic acrid smell. Hair smells like sulfur. And skin. Skin smells like charcoal. When it’s your own, you can’t get it out of your head. You dwell on it. Lucky for you, you won’t have long to dwell.”

Lucia’s sobbing giggles grew more mad, more shrill and her eyes were wide as the hand gripping Delia’s neck slowly lowered the next few inches until a flame licked the side of the Snake’s face.
